Wrestlemania 28: CM Punk (c) vs Chris Jericho - WWE Championship

I was expecting much more action in this match and it was a bit of a disappointment.

I knew that Jericho would not perform his high flying feats of the attitude era.

Although Punk really sold the storyline throughout the match.

I think the reason why most people didn't like this match is cause it was sandwiched in between Hell in a Cell and Rock vs Cena.

Punk and Jericho put on a great match. I enjoyed every bit of it, but having it when they did was bad. Coming pretty much after Hell in a Cell, nothin was going to top that. It set a bar that only Rock and Cena could've followed.

The fans didn't seem to care cause it was too slow for them and that Rock and Cena was coming up right after it. They wanted this over as soon as possible to get to Rock and Cena. The fallout from Hell in a Cell and the anticipation of Rock and Cena killed the buzz for this match. It was doomed from the start.

LOVED the match, HATED where they placed it.

This match told an amazing story. Punk's matches are NEVER that fast paced because he put so much effort on story and selling. When Punk took Jericho's senton, he even rolled away (in kayfabe, to get away) but in reality so that Jericho would land on his lower back to further the lower back punishment.

Punk too 2 NASTY bumps. The first the obvious one, the suplex to the floor. The second only people who have taken actual bumps noticed (and Jerry lawler, who has taken bumps) the back bump off the top rope where his head whipped off the mat. I bet he has at least a mild concussion. Was definately rattled for a while afterwards.

Great match with a sick finish with all those counters. Even had a CM Punk calling card of the "learned psychology" where something happens to Punk and he adapts. This was moving his head away from the knees.

Easily the match of the night. I expected Jericho to win because now, his return looks like an epic failure. However, being a huge Punk mark, I enjoyed the finish.

CM Punk wasn't selling after that suplex to the outside. Normally a wrestler would sell that by yelling and flailing around on the outside. Punk immediately rolled over and stayed on his hands and knees in a fetal position unable to move. That was legitimate agony he felt.

& that replay showed the back of his head smack nicely off the canvas on the 2nd bump. I don't think that was a concussion, but safe to say Jericho didn't suffer any bad bump close to what Punk took.

But to whoever said this was "easily" the best match of the night.... c'mon, dude. Hell in a Cell.

It didn't "steal the show" like everyone claimed it would, but it was a very good match. I would have liked some bigger Attitude Era-esque spots, but the ring work was good and the storytelling was outstanding.

I wonder what's next for this feud, especially Jericho. His consistent failures have really hurt his return.

I was very disappointed with this match and the build up for that matter. I just feel that this could have been so much more we all know how good these two are and with the wwe aiming this match for bragging rights almost ignoring the wwe championship I was just expecting this match to. Be one for the ages and I wouldnt expect to say this but the punk v cena match was miles better
Ps writing on iPod so for those who say my gramma is bad you know why lol

Jesus Christ, I fucking hate some wrestling fans sometimes. While one half of the forum is blatantly admitting this was the best match on the card, here in the thread about the actual match itself people are actually throwing out random things they find as to why it was a "disappointment." I get the entire thing of, it's an opinion, and everyone has an opinion, the same way everyone has an asshole but some stinks more than others and are blatantly wrong.

As a whole it was a masterpiece of a match. Easily the best wrestling match on the show, it told a story, much like The Undertaker vs. Triple H told a story but it told a pretty different story, it was about whether CM Punk could keep his calm in order to retain his Championship or would he lose his cool and destroy Jericho for what was said in relation to his family. Not only did the match tell the story it needed but it did it with a phenomenal exhibition of wrestling, it had everything you could imagine from both men.

Before the match I was the main person on the board saying it was going to be a great match, I was the main person caring about the match because it was my own personal Main Event, and it lived up to the expectations I held for it. From the beginning with Punk nearly losing his cool, to Chris Jericho being possibly the only guy ever, who could shout, "Your father's a drunk, your sisters a drug addict!" and get cheered, it was a great opener. They did some nice spots with Punk flying to the outside, Jericho focusing on the back, they had some great exchanges of both chain and mat based wrestling and the submissions were exceptional.

Everytime Jericho locked in the Walls people came to their feet, when Punk locked in the Anaconda Vice, every person came to their feet. That is how the match should have ended, via submission, because in the background of the angle with Jericho belittling Punk cause of his families issues it was about one man proving he was "The Best in The World." What has actually happened is, both men have came out of it looking great and that is what the entire point of it was!

Great match, great story and going into it, it had a great build-up. I'm proud to say I got to see two of if now, not my two favorite wrestlers go at it at Wrestlemania, for the WWE Championship and put on a match that will be remembered in years to come. Great match, can't wait to see where they go from here.

Do you feel like it should've been on the card earlier?

I feel like because Rock and Cena was the next match, the fans weren't as invested into it. That's just the vibe I got from it.

This match was my Top 3 from Wrestlemania 28. It was amazing! The only part I didn't like was when Jericho tried to make CM Punk get disqualified, so he kept asking "Hey Punk, how's your dad? Sister? Etc." Other than that, it was a great match. 9/10

i never said the story telling wasnt good because that would be idiotic and jericho screaming trash to punks was genious i just said i was dissapointed because it was not what i expected i was hoping for this long hard faught battle with more pase to it like taker and hhh match. ya get me?

I'm not totally fussed about it to be honest. I think the card could have been tweaked a bit. Someone said yesterday that they wanted to see Orton vs. Kane open the show and to be honest, I'd have like to seen that in hindsight, but with the ending being as it was with Bryan/Sheamus it fit the opening match better.

People were tired going into the WWE Championship match but crowd was still going good. But again, not too fussed, the match was exceptional and anyone who thinks different has no clue about professional wrestling and how it isn't a coming together of random moves, it should be the art of story telling. Yes there are matches that have no sense to them, but that is the way it is, a PPV match should have a story and last night Jericho vs. Punk told a tail of both genius, determination and the will be be the "Best in The World." People saying they were "disappointed" can seriously go to hell cause you need to be happy with what you were given instead what you weren't.

I was at WM28 and i have to say that the IWC cant be pleased...U guys cry when its rumored to open the show, then when its before rock cena u cry again. People keep saying the crowd was not into it but being tired from yelling and not into it is two different things. Out of all the matches i yelled the least in this one not because i wasnt into it because it was my 2nd fav match of the night but because i was tired from screaming. Most fans go to axcess where there are wrestling matches and we scream there, then to the hall of fame and we scream there, then take in account that we save something for raw the next night and its hard to cheer during every match. The match was great and the crowd loved it.

I'm from Winnipeg and went to see the ppv in the local movie theatre (it was completely packed in there!). The moment Chris Jericho came out and they announced he was from Winnipeg, that entire packed theatre erupted with cheers (including myself because of course). Then of course Punk comes out and no more than like 5 people or so cheered for him, which was kinda funny really. I love Punk and have been a fan of his for a long time so I admit I was VERY happy when he won but a tiny bit disappointed only because I'm a hometown fan of Jericho's and always will be even if right now he is a jerk in WWE lol

:-)

I bet it was a mild concussion. They happen more often than you think. The back of your head is so sensitive, his brain rattled around in there. You don't always (or really usually studies show) get KOed by a concussion unless it's more severe. Pro wrestlers have a LOT more concussions and other brain injuries than we know because so many go undiagnosed. In fact, Chris Nowitzky did a study and EVERY time a guy bumps, even if it's perfect, because of the jarring of the head, it causes a minute amout of brain damage. Now, do that 20 times a match, some worse than others, 3-4 days a week, every week of the year.

It had a suplex taken with a flat bump to the floor, a springboard countered into a code breaker, that beautiful finishing sequence, brilliant selling, amazing storytelling. Plus it was supposed to be a pure wrestling match and it was their first of an obvious feud. You don't blow your load on the first match. This was a REALLY great match and completely fit the criteria of what it was actually supposed to be. Expecting it to be anything like HHH/Taker, which is their third mania match in what is essentially a year long feud and is a blowoff match in hell in a cell is insane. That'd be like getting mad at Coke because you expected the Jack Daniels to already be in it.

I'm really surprised people are not giving this match the credit it deserved. It was a wrestling clinic with great spots and a wonderful story. It was back and forth, up and down, cat and mouse. Sure it didn't have the glitz of Rock v. Cena or the emotion of HHH v. Taker, but this was the match for wrestling purists.

I'm glad to see the Punk & Jericho feud continue. Hopefully WM29 brings an intense rematch, one that shows how much each man truly hates the other (either that or a Punk v. DBD Iron Man Match).

Just an addition to my previous post, this thread about the WWE Champ v. arguably the #1 heel has as many posts as the Divas tag match. Let that sink in a little. Like I said before, I'm stunned that people are not giving Punk & Jericho their proper respect for a tremendous match.

Dude this is the internet and it's a wrestling forum. People don't come on here to talk about positive things, they come on here to bitch. So of course the celebrity/women's match is going to get talked about more than a classic match.

What I loved most about this match was they somehow managed to have a pretty complete match (by that I mean I don't feel like they held back) and yet there is still room for a rematch because the rematch will be a different type of match. From here out, it'll be more brawling and intensity than classic wrestling.

I was disappointed by the match. I'm not surpirsed though, i have high standards. Very high standards. Jericho is overrated. He always has been. The only guy he can have classics with is HBK. Big deal. Punk has been sloppy lately, and his character has weakened. I ahve absolutely no idea why this match was being hyped the way it was. It was never going to be a classic guys. It never was. Too sloppy for me. Too slow aswell.

Lets face it guys Jericho vs Punk is not a main event level fued because neither guy is and has never been a main event level superstar.

Best wishes MR Ferguson

I enjoyed the Punk/Y2J match alot. Initially I thought it started very slowly, and I was beginning to lose a bit of interest and become disappointed but then it picked up in the way all quality matches do and eventually ended up being a very entertaining, with a sterling performance from both guys.

Punk and Jericho are both quality performers. While our friend Mr Fergulbud may be correct in saying neither are absolute "mega" stars on the level of a Rock/Austin or Cena, I do believe they are both worthy of World Title reigns and of the hype given to this match. They were always going to give us a good match.

With Punk winning, I fully expected Jericho to be gone from WWE after the match, and go back to touring with Fozzy. He even came out with something along those lines on Twitter, but was just attempting to trick us all again as he showed up on Raw to continue the feud. I hope to see Jericho get the title from Punk at the next PPV.

Match of the night IMO, Punk and Jericho put on one hell of a match. Everything i expected and more...Punk is defenatly the man
