I have nothing against Matt Morgan, really. The wrestler, by the way. Not the man. Ever since he came back, he has been mostly talk but he still can put on decent matches. His storytelling basically sucks right now as he would most likely be better as an angry dominant force instead of being a smirking showboating one. His promos are, again, decent enough but it might be time for him to expand a bit beyond the "Hogan mistakes". His look is quite marketable and his athleticism is just another plus for him to exploit but I definitely agree with Zion, he really needs another haircut. Especially if he's gonna wear a badass beard.
Now. Last week. You probably all know the saying about it "not being about the destination but about the journey". Last week's main event was utter garbage. Much can and will probably be made of the end result (Morgan passing out instead of giving up) to portray him as a real tough customer. However, the journey to get there was so terrible that, for me at least, it only served to taint the destination.
1. For a man gunning for the title shot he had been asking for, Morgan didn't seem angry or hungry enough and goofed around too much. But fair enough, he plays it cocky, fine.
2. Sting brought nothing. Nothing. He was crap for most of the match and that brought the main event's entertaiment value way down. Again, fair enough. That would serve to show how dominant Morgan actually was during the match. Again, fine.
3. Here is what I have beef with and where I think Morgan might suffer for it in the long run. Despite contributing next to nothing during the match and being manhandled for most of it, Sting turned it around with a few punches, a few generic moves outside the ring, actually ran right into Morgan's finisher and took it like it was a bitchslap, pulled off another splash and ended it with two feeble-looking Deathlocks. What purpose did that serve? Considering everything that had happened earlier in the match, it only served to make Morgan appear weak as watered down whiskey. If that was supposed to be a rub for Morgan, I sincerely think it was a failure because they just showed that no matter how dominant Morgan could be, he got punked out in two minutes.
As for Morgan not winning because Morgan vs Bully Ray is a no-no, they still could have made him look genuinely strong and made it into a triple threat title match with Morgan being kind of a tweener. Problem solved. I really think Morgan could be something interesting but he really got the short end of the stick on that one.
