Pre-Show Stalwart
For anyone who didn't Watch ECW tonight or didn't know, tonight was Tommy Dreamers last ECW as he put his career on the line against Zach Ryder and lost. Now obviously he was suppose to lose, but my question to everyone who watched is, did it look like to you that his good bye speech was a work? To me it looked incredibly planned and was so cliche and corny that I honestly believe It was practiced beforehand. Anyone else agree? Or do you guys think that it was a total shoot?

Also who thinks that Dreamer will go to TNA?

Although I have no evidence that it's true I'm pretty sure the speech was pre-planned, possibly even scripted.

I haven't seen it, but I'm sure it was awful. This is, after all, Tommy Dreamer, a guy who's only every been intresting because of intresting people around him. No, not Zack Ryder, I mean like Raven and, no wait, I mean he was intresting during his feud with Raven.

No.

The speech was moving, heartfelt, and amazing. They had Beulah and his kids in the audience, and Dreamer even took his kids with him to pose on the ramp. Tommy was legitimately crying, and really there is no way it could have been a work. Maybe parts of it were planned, but that doesn't make it any less real, as the emotion behind it certainly was.

Maybe you just have no soul.

No, that was definitely real because Dreamer loves the business (especially ECW) as well as his fans. Dreamer got to have his moment after all the hard work he has put in. Some of it may have been scripted, but I doubt it. That was as real as you can get and I'm glad that they let Dreamer have a moment like this because I'm sure it meant a lot to him.

I don't think it was pre plan. It was a really good emotional speech made by Tommy dreamer and do truly believe that it came from his heart. I'm going to miss him never really was a huge fan of his. But I did respect him the most out of the whole original ecw locker room.

Maybe it was planned by him because he was leaving, but not that the WWE wanted him to use those exact words.

My view is that since he knew he was gone, he had something planned for the fans and well, WWE was good enought to allow him to go that way and not the way that for example JBL or Vickie (when she first left) left that was completely humiliating.

JBL-Gone in what? 15 seconds? I know he was a heel but he deserved better than that, even if he was a shitty wrestler.

Vickie left with bad references to the way she looked ( I know she is not Miss USA, but compare a Woman to a pig is BS) and even Edge getting there an left her in a very bad way and calling her names. At least with Him and Lilian Garcia the WWE has allowed dignified leavings.

So yes, probably he rehearsed it a little but that is OK, he left with his head held high and most fans (myself included) wanted it to be that way.

I agree that probably the speech itself was more than likely pre-planned, but the delivery was definitely not. Dreamer is one of the very few in the WWE who could deliver on real emotion rather than the overblown posturing that passes for emotion with many of the other wrestlers. Dreamer was the guy that wasn't afraid to let the public see his soul bared. There have been other great wrestlers for their various reasons, but as for Dreamer, he was always the most real and I believe that speech proved it.

Fair well to ya, Tommy. You'll be missed.

I agree that probably the speech itself was more than likely pre-planned, but the delivery was definitely not.

Im not asking about how he felt delivering his goodbye speech, the delivery was clearly not planned, dreamer is known to wear his heart on his sleeve, and quite frankly I don't think he would be a good enough actor to fake his way through what he did last night. He was very emotional and he was clearly sad. What I'm saying is all the motions he went through looked a little pre planned. the laying of the ECW shirt in the middle of the ring, grabbing his children and brining them up the ramp etc etc. It was very emotional, but I honestly would not have been surprised if Vince had choreographed that for him.

I doubt that was preplanned. Why would Vince tell him what to do? And even if Vince did, why would he have to listen to him? Not like his job is in jeopardy or anything. I think he just went with it, thats why he did that with the shirt, then brought his girls up the ramp.

It was definitely preplanned, and probably scripted. The thing is, is Tommy Dreamer was leaving, but he's not old, and he hasn't retired. If they just let him say what he wants, its a bad idea because he might be harsh. Similarly though, Dreamer isn't an idiot, and probably appreciated the opportunity to thank the fans, whether they were his words or not. To be honest though, it doesn't really matter does it? He has left, and he said goodbye quite nicely and symbollically, and that is the important thing. "Good bye" is two words, and it doesn't really matter how you say it, the sentiment is there.

In my opinion it was a worked shoot. He was probably given the barebones of what he was going to say, not to badmouth the company, and leave his ECW T-Shirt in the ring and take his wife and kids up the ramp. As for the actual words and emotions, that was all Dreamer. This was probably the best way to do it. If you're taking someone who has a legit passion towards the subject and giving them free reign (within reason) to cut a promo you're going go get sometihng good. It worked for Heyman and Styles (after Heyman's Drafting and Styles' 'defection' to ECW), and it worked again for Dreamer. Doing it as such was the best way to do it because it lets Tommy have a memorable good bye without it sounding forced and fake.

If you really think his speech was a work, then you're an idiot. That emotion was real, and if you didn't notice half the time he was stumbling on words and what exactly he wanted to say. He was overwhelmed with the moment and couldn't even get half his words out properly and you have the nerve to ask if it was a work? Give the guy his moment and respect him for it because he deserves it. Don't start a thread like this, I think it's disrespectful. End of story.

I think it was a chance for him to say his peace according to the info I've read. Vince was quite high on Tommy and that's why he allowed him to say what he wanted. Personally I'm quite sad he's gone. :icon_cry: Especially since he grabbed my chest way back in 2006 a few days before my wedding...lol. I still joke with my husband about "Remember the time Tommy came by hugging fans in our row and he 'honked' one of my girls?" LOL :p He still gets irked at it, but thru all ECW history, this man is one bad mutha..no one will EVER come close to him.
