Was Russia Just Sleeping?

NYSandman

Testicles. That is all.
So, the Soviet beast is back? After years of retirement, Russia seems to have been reinstated by Commissioner Foreign Policy again.

Seems like the world is going to hell. 9/11, Iraq and now Russia invading a tiny Democratic country.

The part about this that I find sort of entertaining is the fact that, unlike Iraq, there really isn't shit my country can do about this. After all, Russia has just as many nukes as us, so what can we threaten them with?

I'm very, VERY interested to see how, in the long run, Bush will deal with this. That 56 IQ of his is going to be stretched to the limit.

All those wrestling promo like speeches of his won't mean a damned thing now. Russia is not the kind of country we can just bully around and bomb and send soldiers to.

In a way, I respect the Russians. I am not trying to get anyone angry, as I know many of my fellow posters are from Europe, and you probably have FAR more knowledge on Russia than I do.

But, the Cold War was between the US and Russia. I respect BOTH countries for not resorting to that final blow, the one that would have fried all of us and made the cockroaches reign supreme.

Both countries showed restraint, and I think the Russian have intelligence, not just blind barbarism and hate like some terrorists in the Middle East.

Both the US and Russia firmly believed that their way of Government was the best and most sensible.

In the end, Russia and Communism "fell" because oppression is never the way.

But, I'm starting to feel quite oppressed myself in my "Democratic" slice of land. Taxes, high prices, wire tapping, lying, cheating, stealing, Police brutality and political corruption have me wondering if the bread line might have been better.

Again, I am not an expert, and if anyone out there has suffered because of Communism, then I sympathize.

But, perhaps not just Communism is wrong. Maybe, just maybe, Democracy is flawed as well. Things are getting expensive, scary and bad 'round these parts.

And now, we may be staring down the barrel of nuclear holocaust again because of a tiny country.

Maybe the United States needs to start worrying about itself. Perhaps isolationism is the key, and we need to just STAY OUT OF ALL FOREIGN AFFAIRS UNTIL WE FIX OUR OWN AFFAIRS!

I'm tired of being asked to send money overseas while children in MY country are starving. I wouldn't ask ANYONE in ANY other country to send the USA money if THEY had starving kids, also.

I think each country's priority should be ITSELF right now.

By the way, I've already bought a desk to hide under in case those air raid sirens blare.

We're going to be back to having nuclear drills in schools again.

God help us all.

I think it's Russia simply flexing it's military might once again. They aren't too happy with the US putting a missile defense shield in Europe, and this is simply a way for the Big Ruskies to show that they aren't exactly thrilled with it.

Russia and the US aren't going to butt heads for too long. It's a love hate relationship, and one can't survive without the other is pretty much what it boils down to. It's the two big bullies on the block having pissing contest with each other. Plus, the US really has no ground to stand on when talking about invading countries for no apparent reason.

Russia is just pissed because they don't have the funds, which means they don't have the ability either, to compete with today's Militarizes. They're trying to remain relevant, when in reality they're far behind the times. Yes, they have Nukes but that doesn't really mean much now a days. Not unless you're some loon. Russia is smart, but they've also taken a lot of shit in the last few decades.

Most of Russia's nukes are housed in inoperable silos, or the warheads have been sold to nations such as Iran, for "power", so that Russia could pay post Cold war debts.

Well, that 56 IQ got him through Yale (with better grades than John Kerry, who was there at the same time), elected twice as governor of the most important state in the country, and twice more as President. And for all the talk of how stupid he is, the other guys couldn't beat him, so I think he'll do all right. Now if it continues, and for some strange reason Obama wins, I wonder how fast he's going to help Russia, you know, because what Europe thinks of us is important, or something.
All those wrestling promo like speeches of his won't mean a damned thing now. Russia is not the kind of country we can just bully around and bomb and send soldiers to.

Actually, it is. Russia is a major producer of oil. They export more oil to China than any other nation in the world. Being that Bush and Hu Jintao are great friends, and are looking for something to solidify that friendship as a "passing of the torch" in worldwide influence, a little squeeze is not just feasible, it's imperative.
In a way, I respect the Russians. I am not trying to get anyone angry, as I know many of my fellow posters are from Europe, and you probably have FAR more knowledge on Russia than I do.
Except that they just elected a puppet of Vladamir Putin, who is the worst leader they've ever had. Putin led disasters in Chechnya and had to fight his image as KGB for his entire term as President. It would be like if we elected Al Gore. Thank God that didn't happen.

But, the Cold War was between the US and Russia. I respect BOTH countries for not resorting to that final blow, the one that would have fried all of us and made the cockroaches reign supreme.

I agree here. It could have been way worse.
But, I'm starting to feel quite oppressed myself in my "Democratic" slice of land. Taxes, high prices, wire tapping, lying, cheating, stealing, Police brutality and political corruption have me wondering if the bread line might have been better.

Vote for McCain and your tax worries will be aleviated. Wire tapping isn't a problem for me, as I have nothing to hide. I value my life over my privacy. Call me crazy, but privacy sure would suck if I wasn't alive to enjoy it. Remember, they can't publish everything they hear, or plots that have been stopped because of wire tapping, so you will never be able to quantify the Patriot Act, but I'm alive, and that's good for me. And as far as political corruption goes, as soon as Obama is eschewed out of the way, we'll be fine. His campaign funders (Resco) are the most corrupt people alive. They fought to keep the ghettos so they could continue to get government checks for their projects. And the chairman of the board, a great friend of Obama, is on his way to prison. Funny how John McCain, in a political career 20 times as long as Obama's has never had a scandal like the five Obama has ahd in this campaign season.

And if you feel oppressed, then you are just talking of of left-wing talking points. How are we oppressed. We live in the biggest target in the world, other than Israel, but liv ethe safest lives of anyone. Our poor are obese, Russia's poor starve to death. Our poor have cable TV and automobiles. Russia's poor have oil lamps and walk. If you feel oppressed, please go to The Netherlands, and live your willy-nilly drug filled life somewhere else.

Because our meddling in World War II made the world a terrible place. Look, we have NATO backing in Georgia. And right now we are serving as nothng more than peace keepers. There is not one Russian soldier stupid enough to fire at an American soldier. We are so advanced in military tehnology. We could turn Russia into one long strip of casinos at any point, if we felt like it.

I think each country's priority should be ITSELF right now.

Again, I agree. How can we send billions of dollars to Africa for AIDS, when we have homeless people. Why do we support tsunami victims when people don't have health care. We don't need to tax for national healthcare. We need to keep the revenue stream in-house.

By the way, I've already bought a desk to hide under in case those air raid sirens blare.

While you're down there, see if you can figure out why I vote Republican. You're hiding under a desk because you're scared of Russia and their tin cans, while I prefer to be out fighting the one's who can really hurt us.

This situation is Georgia doesn't signify the end of the world. Russia is nothing anymore. Their weapons are shit. This is just another embarrassment for Russia. Afghanistan, Chechnya, now Georgia, all nations that have no business standing up to Russia, and all nations that will push Russia back towards the stone-age. The only time we need to worry about Russia, is if the Tsarist commission gains power and brings back a single monarch to the nation. One single man in charge would pull all the oil revenue and buy new guns. They have the technology, they just can't afford to build it.

Can we just set this straight and simple;

North Ossestia is offically part of Russia

South Ossetia is offically part of Georgia although it claims Independence and wants to join with North Ossestia.

So this basically means that South Ossettia wants to be Russian.

Georgia invade South Ossettia

South Ossettia asked for help from the North

Russia obliged...

This is NOT Russia saying lets wipe out Georgia, it's a self defence on a province that is basic ally Russian.
