Doesn't Iran have nuclear weapons?, if so pissing them off really doesn't seem like a very good idea.

Very true. But how about the fact that we've supported Israel since its formation as a country? Hell, Iran hates our guts anyway so why should we try to appease them? We should stick with our ally and screw Iran. If they don't like that we support Israel then middle finger to them.![]()
Thanks Mitt Bush. Nothing says good politics better than inflammatory comments.![]()
Yeah how dare us try to show Iran that we're not completely against them so that they might want to actually talk to us. Instead, let's go with the old GOP idea: we have more guns so we win and screw anything other than force to get our way.
Exactly. You have Slyfox's official stamp of approval.Барбоса;4107843 said:A long-standing alliance does not mean that you agree completely and blindly with everything that your ally does.
If anything, this is the imbalance that Obama has attempted, consciously or not, to redress by recognising the "crazy" notion that Israel is far from blameless in the tensions with many of its neighbours.
Because of the continued heavy-handed approach of the Israelis, while she remains the most important strategic ally the US has in the Middle East, Israel is also the US' greatest liability. Due to that fact, it makes good sense to not be seen to be completly rigid in your political relationships.
And the Middle East does not come down solely to Israel, Iraq and Iran. The continued fostering of good relations with the other regional powers such as Egypt and Turkey are far more important than backing Israel "at all costs."
Let me say this a little more calmly. I'm not saying to blow Iran off the face of the Earth but it's no secret that they aren't big fans of us. Israel is our ally. Normally if your ally gets attacked then you go to defend them. Maybe we should go a this a bit more diplomatically. Maybe we should play Switzerland and stay out of it altogether. I'm just saying we've sided with Israel from the beginning why change that stance now? To appease Iran? Then we'd have a pissed of Israel. Damned if you do, damned if you don't.

If you can't figure out by now, after all the Democrat vs. Republican nonsense we've seen, that blindly following allegiances without taking the time to consider how it aligns with your own beliefs is a bad idea, then I don't know what to tell you.
People who vote Democrat because that's what their daddy did are just as silly as those who vote for a Congress person because they have an R behind their name. And it's just as silly to blindly give support to a country, no matter what the issue is.
Any reasonable leader should have the ability to independently evaluate a situation and make a decision from there. You don't ever embarrass an ally, but you don't always have to automatically agree with them either.

The USA has unwaveringly supported the right of Taiwan to exist, why is asking it to do the same with Israel too much to ask?
http://insidetv.ew.com/2012/09/07/rem-fox-news-losing-my-religion/?hpt=hp_t3Artists as diverse as K’Naan and Twisted Sister’s Dee Snider have all taken exception to the Romney campaign’s use of their music without authorization. Now R.E.M. has a dog in the fight: the band issued a cease-and-desist to Fox News after the network used their 1991 hit “Losing My Religion” in its coverage of the Democratic National Convention.
Lead singer Michael Stipe said in a statement, “We have little or no respect for their puff adder brand of reportage. Our music does not belong there.”
That’s a bit more succinct than Rage Against the Machine’s Tom Morello was when he told off Paul Ryan, but it’s clear enough.
“FOX News Channel’s use of an R.E.M. song during Thursday’s edition of Fox & Friends was in full accordance with its license agreements with all appropriate parties. Nevertheless, we’re always flattered to have this much attention for a song selection and we hope R.E.M. was able to satisfy their publicity fix,” A representative for Fox News responded.

Because Taiwan is not armed to the teeth and posturing like it has no problem starting a conflict on its own doorstep.
Over certain actions Israel does not deserve the support of a supposedly enlighten nation like the USA as it at times refuses to act like one.
The UK remains a stance ally of the Israelis (as the nation that acted as a surrogate mother to it) but is not scared to pull the Israelis up when they go too far. America either backs Israel on everything or says nothing, which their opponents take as tacit agreement with Israeli actions regardless of how brutal they are.
The unemployment rate is higher than in 2008.
Our national debt has increased more since 2008 than at any other time in U.S. history.
The average median household income is lower than in 2008.
Gas prices have nearly doubled.
I bought in to the hope and change nonsense in 2008, but not this time. I don't care for Romney much either, but he's the lesser of two evils.
