Vince's retirement discussion

PSachkovsky

U mad bro?!
1. I wonder what is your opinion on the soon coming retirement of Vince McMahon?

2. Let's say that before he retires Shane McMahon comes back to the WWE. Now, who should take over the company in that case? Shane or Triple H/Stephanie?

3. How do you see the WWE Without Vince McMahon?

4. What impact will Vince's retirement have on the wrestling industry?

5. What will be the impact of Vince McMahon's death on the wrestling industry? (If you don't want to reply this question, feel free to not reply it.)

1. I honestly don't think he'll retire completely, obviously he'll give most duties up to steph n paul, and probably shane too if he decides to come back one day. I think the day that Vince Mcmahon dies will be the day that he truly retires, I just can't see a man who has worked so hard, 19-20 hours a day for most of his life being able to just sit back and enjoy a retirement.

2. Even though Shane left, I really have always believed that the oldest son should always inherit what his father has, as long as that son isn't an idiot, drug addict, or estranged from the family. I think that it will be evenly split between steph, shane, and paul.

3. Who knows what will happen when vince is gone, hopefully the product will be better being that shane and steph might have a better idea of what is popular with fans these days, but then again I'm kind of scared that without the mastermind of every wrestling production (from wwf/wwe) that ive watched throughout my life it wont be as good. Its hard to tell what will happen.

4. I don't think it will change the landscape too much, that is of course as long as steph, paul, and shane dont run the company into the ground lol.

5. U asked the same question twice in a row there buddy lol. Good question though im excited to see how everyone else will respond to ur question. Should be a pretty good thread I think.

1- Vince will never retire. He MIGHT and I stress MIGHT give up some day to day duties. But like 420 said it's hard for a guy who puts in the hours he does to sit back and enjoy retirement especially when it's his baby.

2- If Shane came back it should be a split between Steph and Shane. Obviously Hunter will also be very hands on.

3- I see the WWE becoming a little more serious instead of Vince's goofy infatuations with comedy. I don't see PG going away unless USA allows it or WWE moves channels again.

4- As much as Vince has done for the business I don't see his retirement having a huge impact on the wrestling biz. After all a McMahon will still be in charge. plus I don't see him ever being away from the company for too long.

5- It will be a sad day when he dies. Like him or hate him he has done a lot of good(and bad) for wrestling in general. There will be a dark cloud hanging over the WWE the day he passes. He is easily the biggest polarizing figure in wrestling.

1. Like everyone else said, Vince will never retire! he will drop his workload gradually as time progresses but he will always be around and always have a say. Kind of like when Bob Kelso retires from sacred heart in scrubs but he is still there till the end!

2. Why does everyone seem to think shane will return? Shane is doing exceptionally well for himself and is making his own name on his own hard work. He runs a major corporation in china i think and he also represents and works with a lot of top sports stars such as Rory McIlroy. He is only just getting started in building his own fortune and achievements so i never see him coming back as anything more than a guest. But yeah it's pretty obvious Paul and Steph will be taking over and i have no problem with that.

3. I dont really think there will be any major changes to WWE because like i said, Vince will have final say till the day he dies. But after? Possibly a little more focus on wrestling and maybe some more realism. But overall i dont expect much change.

4. Again, im agreeing with everyone else. Vince will not retire. Gonna miss this question out though because the next one is pretty identical.

5. I dont think it will have that much impact if i am honest. At this stage in his life, Vince cannot offer much more so i dont think anyone will feel like we have suffered a major loss or that he had so much more to offer. People will just show their respect and honour him in their own special way but in terms of "Impact"? i dont think it will be a big blow to the wrestling world. That sounds far more mean than intended. I hope you get my point.

1. I wonder what is your opinion on the soon coming retirement of Vince McMahon?
To be honest I just dont think he's ever going to retire. He'll die behind his desk. WWE is his life, at this point it's the only thing he knows how to do anymore. Also I just don't think he'd feel right with seeing WWE being run by somebody else. I'm sure he has all the faith in the world in Triple H and Stephanie but well it just isn't him. He might take on a reduced workload but I just don't think he'll ever step away completely.

2. Let's say that before he retires Shane McMahon comes back to the WWE. Now, who should take over the company in that case? Shane or Triple H/Stephanie?
The reality is I don't think it should be just any one of them by themselves. While Steph is creative and Triple H knows the wrestling industry I don't think they're really business people, at leats not on the scale of managing a large multi million dollar corporation. Shane on the other hand does have experience at running a large corporation but no idea on how he would be at writing shows.

But that's ok. The days of The Renaissance Man are over. All companies have somebody at the top who has the final say on everything but they also have advisors and subordinates who are in charge of places he or she can't be and know things he or she doesn't. That's what an executive Vice President is for. That's hardly a new concept. Andrew Carnegie knew the value of if he doesn't know something hiring somebody who does over a hundred years ago.

3. How do you see the WWE Without Vince McMahon?
I'm ruling out retirement but rather going with him dying being the more likely scenario. In that case I think there's gonna be a roungh transition period like what happened in Disney after Walt Disney died. At first they said we'll just do what Walt would have done. The problem is everybody started arguing what Would have done in that situation. One group said "he'd do this" another said "he'd do that." and yet another said "he'd do neither of those things and would blah blah blah..." In the end somebody had to step up and say "Walt is dead, this is the way we're going to do it for better or for worse."

4. What impact will Vince's retirement have on the wrestling industry?

5. What will be the impact of Vince McMahon's death on the wrestling industry? (If you don't want to reply this question, feel free to not reply it.)

While I'm sure many will be saddened by his passing (and many will jump for joy), The industry will continue rolling on even if his death causes the WWE to ultimately collapse. Pro Wrestling existed long before Vince and it will continue to do so long after Vince McMahon is dead and gone. Don't get me wrong he had a lot of revolutionary ideas and took big risks nobody else was willing to take. It will be hard to replace somebody who was such a driving force in the business for a long time but sooner or later somebody else will step up and see what is and try to mold it into what should be. They'll be coming for their share. And they'll get it too because they can be places Vince couldn't and they can do things he couldn't. Nobody can eat all the candy in the store.

Vince will be around the business until he is senile. I do see him giving duties to Triple H to run the weekly show but Vince will ALWAYS be in charge of Wrestlemania. That is his baby and no way will he ever let that go.

Triple H is a smart man. I love Vince but think he has had his day now and he slowly needs to give others a chance to run the company. Triple H is my pick.

1) As it has been stated here and elsewhere, Vince will probably never retire. He's too much of a Type A personality to ever do that. He's been delegating more responsibility to other people, but he'll never hand over the reins - they will be pried from his cold, dead fingers. The only way Vince will step down is if he has some kind of health issue.

2) I highly doubt Shane will return to WWE. From what some people have said, the reason Shane left was because he felt he had done everything he could in WWE and couldn't go any further because Vince will never step aside. Others have said he left because he was sick of butting heads with Stephanie and HHH. Shane's departure deeply affected Vince and if he were to return, he'd still get a high-ranking position, but Steph and Hunter would be in charge. If he had never left in the first place, I think he'd be a better successor to Vince, as people inside have said that Stephanie doesn't "get it" and has been described as "in over her head" as Head of Creative.

3) I know a lot of people don't like PG-WWE and would like nothing more than a return to the edginess of the Attitude Era. I think Vince casts a huge shadow and people would try to run the company "like Vince would have".

4) That depends on the competence of his successors (no one person will run WWE like he did). I have no faith in Stephanie's ability to run the company and HHH has a reputation for cronyism.

5) When Vince goes, there will be a long line of people to honor him, and an equally long line of people who want to piss on his grave. He completely changed the game of pro wrestling and raised its profile to heights unthought of during the days of the territories, but he made a lot of enemies because of the way he did business. I know Bill Watts almost sued Vince for predatory business practices in the 80's.

Shane didn't just leave, he took his stock out of the company... that is a massive indicator as to him not coming back and his businesses are doing very well!. IF he ever did, he would be a major investor so would likely have a lot more sway than many think.

There is no guarantee Vince will ever retire he won't "onscreen" anyways, we saw him fired... that's it... in terms of the board room so much is tied up in his mystique that he will likely have to be carried out in a box. As for what happens then...

Sure a lot of his enemies will start writing tell alls and trying to cash in on their Vince stories... but on the whole most people including Hollywood would probably be quite respectful, as his impact HAS been huge on entertainment in general...not so sure he'd get on the vignette at the Oscars but stranger things have happened.

Where WWE goes, who knows? I'd like to think Shane would return, but with his newly found success it would likely be on his terms and as an equal partner with Steph/Trips. I think there would be a large role for Mark Calloway too. I see Shane as Chairman, Trips as Vice President, Steph as head of creative and Calloway in Trips' current role.

Vince has actually stated before that when he's gone, that no one person will be taking over his duties, but rather a handful of people will be.

That could cause problems for a company that has run for so long with one central authority figure. WCW was the mess it was in part because there were too many cooks in the kitchen. Could something similar happen in a Vince McMahonless WWE? Probably not, but it is possible.

When the day comes, it'll probably be in the companies best interest if one person can step up immediately and make it clear that all decisions run through them. Whether that's Triple H, Stephanie, or a returning Shane, who knows? But with how that companies run for so long, I really don't know how well equipped they'd be to manage under the multi-headed leadership that McMahon's mentioned will replace him.
