UFC 200 - Brock Lesnar versus ???

A lot has been said about Brock Lesnar and UFC 200 already. With everything that has already happened with Ariel Helwani and the announcement; people are already lining up to buy UFC 200. Brock Lesnar remains a massive draw in the world of WWE and mixed martial arts, believe it or not. And having got Brock to appear at UFC 200, the only question now remains who will he be standing across the octagon from at the big event?

So many possibilities are out there for Brock but I think it seems the most likely that he will go on to face Frank Mir again. Those two have a massive history between them and both can talk like Hell. If the name of the game is PPV buys, then that's the match. However, I have also heard talk of Fedor signing on to face Brock at 200. And whilst I firmly believe that would be a headline bout of its own, it could definitely happen if you ask me. Whilst that remains the dream match in terms of fighting, it surely has to be a fantasy.

Speculate here...

I proposed Barnett in another thread, but gave half joking reasons to fantasy book an accompanying pro wrestling angle, but honestly...

Josh Barnett is a great choice. He voiced on Twitter yesterday that he'd be down for the fight after his name was rumored. And if they sign it, it sets up a match they can sell between two former UFC heavyweight champs, and like Dave pointed out with Mir, Barnett has the personality to help sell the fight.

Outside of the longshots- Fedor or possibly JDS, I think Barnett, who is also ranked in the top ten right now, would be the best option.

Also just to throw another name in the mix, Brock has a lot to lose from a Roy Nelson fight, but that would entertaining and easy to sell for the UFC as well.

Honestly, I don't want to see Lesnar/Mir 3, especially considering that Frank Mir is a shell of the fighter that he used to be. Of course, Brock/Fedor would be a dream fight and if anybody can get Emelianenko to fight for the UFC, other than Werdum, I'm betting that guy would be Brock Lesnar. That's where the big money is in my opinion, and Dana should do everything he can to set this up. Hopefully Brock would be able to put in a good performance against Fedor, but the guy is a beast.

Apparently Shane Carwin is itching to get back in there with Lesnar. This could work as well as both guys are big names in the sport and have been retired for a few years now. This eliminates the possibility of Lesnar beating a big UFC name only to never fight for them again, it would basically be a novelty match.

Also a ton of hype around a Lesnar/Mark Hunt fight. Personally, any of these 3 would make me exponentially happier than seeing Frank Mir/Brock Lesnar 3.

Barnett would be a great choice if he wasn't in training camp for his scheduled fight in September. I believe Mir failed a drug test of some sort recently so that rules him out too.

Lesnar vs. Fedor would be an enticing match and the only reason Dana White would even want Lesnar on the card is because Lesnar was a huge draw for UFC. Fedor Emelianenko is one of the biggest and most respected fighters in mixed martial arts to have never fought in the UFC, so if they were able to land him in order to have a fight with Lesnar, it'd be a big draw if, for nothing else, MMA fans hoping to see Lesnar mangled by this guy.

Maybe they could finagle a way to have Lesnar vs. Punk in a catchweight bout. ;)

Just announced. It's going to be Brock Lesnar vs Mark Hunt which I think is smart all things considered. Hunt's a guy who Brock has a really good shot of beating while still being one of the most entertaining fighters in the ring UFC has in the Heavyweight division. He's also lost his past two fights so another loss to Lesnar wouldn't really screw up the landscape either. Brock can effectively destroy Hunt on the mat, all he really has to worry about is getting caught with one of his haymakers, but once he gets him down, the fight should pretty much be a rap.

Of course, it is possible that Brock gets knocked out quickly. It's been a while since he's taken a shot and even during his original run, it was rumored that he didn't take getting hit very well. Hunt is one of the most wild and powerful strikers in the UFC. It's really up to Brock to take advantage of his weak takedown defense and than beat him with some ground and pound, if he does that, the fight should be pretty straightforward.

I'm taking Brock in the second on this one.

As OYDK said, Hunt is someone that Lesnar has a more than reasonable chance to defeat. At 42 years old and with a record of 12-10-1, Hunt isn't an MMA mega star and almost certainly never will be; he hasn't won any significant MMA titles that I'm aware of and this will probably be one of his last chances to have a fight against someone that, like him or hate him, is one of the biggest names in MMA history.
