UFC 117 LD is Anderson Silva's Retirement Party, Hosted by Chael Sonnen

Dude it was a clear tap, he was reaching over for something to tap, and got one little tap in. Go back and watch it in slow motion. It was clear once they showed it in slow motion.

Yea I saw the replay. And yes it was a clear tap. My mistake. Again, this fight was easily a FOTY candidate but as Silva just proved, all it takes is one mistake and BAM! GOOD NIGHT IRENE!

Guys have fought with broken bones and not had that stop him. And a rib injury is as painful of an injury as a person can have. You can't deny Silva wasn't NEARLY as elusive as he normally is. You can give some credit to Sonnen for that, but a rib injury would explain a lot of it as well.

This is true, good call on that Sly. Sonnen does deserve a lot of credit for his ground and pound though. The big hole in his game was how he left his arms in too much. Silva had ample opportunities to go for submissions and eventually it caught up to Sonnen.

I don't see how you can't give Sonnen the rematch, assuming he wants it. There's NO ONE else in the division worthy of a shot (do we really want to see Leben get destroyed again?) and Sonnen dominated the fight for all but the last few seconds.

I completely agree.

Now I have a big dilemna. Do I go to bed, or watch the show all over again? Damn great shot, and I want to watch it again, get double my money's worth.

I guarantee Fitch puts you to sleep.

Speaking of, I really hope Fitch doesn't get a title shot. I want to see Fitch vs. Hughes next. If there is one time I could tolerate Fitch laying on someone for three rounds, it would be in a fight against Matt Hughes.

I didn't think the Fitch fight was bad at all, but then again, I like the grappling stuff on the canvas.

I do as well, but while Fitch went for the back a couple of times in this fight (more so than he's ever done before at least), there still wasn't much to be seen in this one other than one person laying on top of the other. Typical Jon Fitch fight.

The thing is, Sonnen has incredible takedowns, and Silva has notoriously bad takedown defense... which was why back when this fight was announced back in February, that I knew that Sonnen would do exactly what he did last night. Rib injury or not, I think Sonnen would have executed his gameplan perfectly, and that's what he did for 23 minutes. We'll see what happens in the rematch.

This ruled so much:

Shit like this gem.

Silva never "showboats" he shows only respect to the sport anytime he enters the ring. Sonnen made the mistake of taking it to the ground EVERY single round because he knew his stand-up was no match for Silva. His so-called "gameplan" obvio...usly DIDN'T work because he got caught. Not to mention this domination your talking about didnt exist in that fight, it was blatently apparent Silva was relaxed and thinking throughout the fight, only waiting for Chael to slip up, which he did. Chael gave a good fight but in the end he was no match for his, non-american MMA Hero.See More
