Twitter helping or hurting Wrestling?

HoHo

The Voice of the Future
Oh ****, HoHo is doing a non-thread that doesn't involve Diva Pics, yes I am, something has been plaguing my mind, for about a month now, is the use of Twitter in WWE and TNA lately.A week ago, I saw a tweet from Sting, saying he was done, done with TNA, now I knew it just to play up the storyline Sting has been having, with Robert Roode, but it was a bad attempt to draw fans interest, as the Impact showing had, insane Icon Sting return, yeahhh...no.So who was Sting playing as before, Steve Borden? WWE has been using twitter every god damn second they get, as we saw from Raw, with Kung Pow Bitch, WWE took control of that to make it theirs. Is WWE and TNA not confident in their storylines that, he go to twitter every chance they get, or are they let's suck this twitter thing, for all it's worth.I would like to see less twitter chaos, cough Chris Brown and CM Punk, to be advertised on Raw, instead seeing a new shine of stars on Raw and Smackdown?

personally i don't care about Twitter and Facebook, and i don't want to what CM Punk think what he makes is in life.
WWE needs to keep an certain mystery around Wrestlers and what they makes everyday,it's like WWE version 2.0.
I don't want the WWE became an sort of shit magazine about people and rumours like that.
It's an good reason why Taker hasn't an facebook page,he can't want to write his life everyday for the fans can read this

The whole constantly announcing whats trending on Twitter thing during the shows annoys me. While I think it can be useful in building fueds off camera and keeping the fans involved I think they just need to cool it a bit with the constant on-air references.

It just comes across as trying too hard. It's like WWE is constantly screaming "See see we're still hip dammit! Please pay attention to us, kids."

true, its helping WWE gain more attention in a way but hurting them at the same time, like back in the day how wrestlers were a mystery outside the ring like you just put, made them more interesting to watch and believe there character as a wrestler

Absolutly sick of seeing Twitter "trends" on WWE, I literally could not care less. It's distracting aswell, what do WWE or TNA gain putting over twitter? Their own "superstars" aren't over, try and fix that first!

It does nothing to help the buisness, look at the s**t storm Punk caused with Chris Brown, it made the buisness and the people in it look dumb, he was right in what he said, just the wrong avenue, what did it gain him or the company? Negative media exposure for your babyface world champ? As far as using it to further angles...well, if you've got a 2 hour show and can't get your angles over and running in that time, you're doing it wrong.

I hate the twitter references. But it's giving WWE/TNA mainstream exposure with having to bring in a shit celebrity nobody cares about.

So, it's good for business ;)

I absolutely cannot stand the twitter references in wrestling now. I mean, i think it's cool that wrestlers have twitter to interact with their fans, but when it gets shoved down your #throat every five #minutes it gets #annoying

Twitter and all this social media crap being all over the WWE broadcasts is incredibley annoying.

I'm fine with the fact that Superstars have Twitter and Facebook accounts and fans can interact with them but LEAVE IT ON THOSE PLACES. I don't want to see every 5 seconds what is apparently trending. And I say apparently because I'm pretty sure Vince just has to tell all his corporate monkeys "Hey, Twitter about X" and he has enough followers that it will make anything trend.

And why the hell should I care what is trending on Twitter when I am obviously WATCHING the damn show right now? The worst part is when a Twitter graphic pops up during a match, you just know the commentators, especially tool Michael Cole is going to nuts all over what is trending and disregard what is happening in the match that is CURRENTLY GOING ON and talk about the trend.

I don't even get it either sometimes when they say "X" is trending. Like if "Kung Pow Bitch" is trending like 1 minute after The Rock says it? That means a bunch of people hop on their smart phones an Twitter something like "LOL The Rock just said Cena is a Kung Pow Bitch LMFAO, he is so going to beat Cena at WM #Boots2Asses" ?

If so, why?!? If they are Tweeting that minutes after it was just said live... why are they Tweeting it? They are clearly watching the show and likely anyone they know who cares is watching the show so why are they Tweeting it?

I honestly don't quite get that but that doesn't change the fact that the Twitter 'trending' pop ups throughout the show are annoying.

Twitter is a waste of time 140 Characters per post is lame
only thing about twitter that is better then Facebook is the Trending now section and even that isn't too Impressive.
i think WWE should use facebook like they are using Twitter, Twitter has 140 Characters per post while Facebook has 1000 character limit
Therefore if wrestlers use it they can say more.
its smart of WWE to use Social Networks in their favour.

In my honest opinion, Twitter is destroying America's grammar, spelling and vocabulary 140 characters at a time. Why people don't use Blogspot as opposed to Twitter is beyond me. It is lazy and I personally will not use it to get my messages across. Oh, and the whole "#word" phenomenon just pisses me off.

Despite my personal feelings, the WWE is very intelligent to use this new method of communication to get their talent and product across in more than just their weekly shows. It allows them the opportunity to have their audience delve into their characters and try to push their plans for the future.

That being said, they haven't used it in a correct way IMO. They advertise it so much it pushes people off, as shown by this thread here. Slowing down their whole "trending worldwide" B.S would be much appreciated by the audience in general.

If they used it correctly, I believe these utilities could help them tremendously, but they have to learn how to use them correctly first.

Just my two cents.

O please what the fuck does it matter?

What next "we shouldn't use cars anymore because now people can't ride horses".

Grammer is important but twitter isn't destorying it. Having shitty teachers who are morons to begin with is. You guys sound like a bunch of grumpy old fucks talking about "youngins with pink hair just don't have the respect they yousta".

As far as the whole wrestling thing, it's more footnotes. At first it was overdone, but now it's just a mention. If anything else it shows you how popular wrestling is. It's not a big deal and really isn't a bother. It's only annoying when it's mentioned every other sentence. Now it's just thrown in there like part of the conversation. It makes sense because that's what's relevant. Get used to it, this is entertainment, you keep up with the jonses. This is no different than when they started using music for entrances or pyros or anything else. Just moving along and not getting left behind.

It just comes across as trying too hard. It's like WWE is constantly screaming "See see we're still hip dammit! Please pay attention to us, kids."
Well, if they ARE the number 1 trend worldwide then that sort of does mean they are still popular right? Also, their demographics haven't actually changed much, go look at actual figures on their corporate website. The only thing that has changed is you. You're getting old and growing out of their true target fanbase (teens and young adults and less educated older people). It sucks but it's true. Wrestling will NEVER seem as awesome to you as it did when you were 14, I can guarantee that.
