I read half of the first book and was so bored by it that I couldn't finish it. At the bookstore I work at, I've reached the point where I want to burn everything related to it. The characters are about as well rounded as a piece of lumber, the romance is ridiculous, and the main story could have been chopped down by about 300 pages. This is why I can't stand most teenage girls, especially fangirls.

My little sister reads these. It infuriates me, because the message is "don't have sex or you will get pregnant, have to keep it, and be very seriously ill. Sex before marriage is wrong, and it will HURT".
Also, you need a man to take care of you, and it's okay if he stalks you and watches you while you sleep, because without him you are nothing. If you lose your man, you will be depressed until you get him back.
If that weren't bad enough, it's basically erotica preaching against sex. How does that make sense?
Propaganda and hypocrisy are the only words. Terrible message for the young teenage audience.

I'm also genuinely curious: Why does the dude sparkle? What does that add to the book, and why is a man who sparkles ZOMG SEXY?

Erm, did we read a different book or something? People look way too far into things like this. Just read. And enjoy. 'Tis simple.

I don't think I'd mind Twilight if the single reason people seem to like it is because of a hot Vampire.

I read the books and saw the movie at the request of the Mrs., and my take is that the books are alright..interesting concept, entertaining in parts, but you can see that Stephanie Meyer is a novice writer and at this point, can only cater to teenage girls. The fight scenes are sub-par considering the buildup they get during the course of the book. But I must say the 4th book ruined the series for me. It is the single-most anticlimatic thing I have ever read, seen, played, etc. in my life. That is the best example of her inexperience at writing..the end just didn't work right, it was too perfect.
As for the movie, I think it feels rushed and they didn't spend enough in making it. It covers the main story, but misses some interesting parts and has the look and feel of a made-for-tv movie more than a theatrical one.
