Very Basic. Mention what, in your opinion is the top three greatest feuds in the WWE's long history.
1. HHH/Mick Foley - My favorite straight-up feud ever, while Austin/McMahon takes it for storyline. Mick Foley was my favorite wrestler as a kid, and it was just heartbreak after heartbreak for him; but finally here, the everyman face, the most relatable character in all of WWE, the underdog hero, went up against the most evil, hated heel there was. And it was perfect. From Mankind's firing, to the Rock and the entire locker room rebelling against the McMahon/Helmsley era to "HIS NAME IS CACTUS JACK", it just all came together masterfully and emotionally. It MADE HHH, solidified Foley as a legend, and resulted in two of the best matches of the decade (Royal Rumble and the HIAC match). I legitimately thought Foley would stay retired (what a mark!) I thought it was an awesome story line and a great way for Foley to go out
2. Hogan/Andre - The original "sellout heel turn" Andre had been brainwashed and turned against his friend for the sake of glory. Excellently done feud. Andre was a heartless monster and Hogan played the sympathetic face to a tee. When this feud all came to a forefront at WM 3 it spawned what is possibly the most dramatic match in WWE's history with probably the greatest moment in Wrestlemania or even wrestlings history.
3. Bret Hart vs America - the "Face in Canada, heel in America" thing was such a groundbreaking story for the time. To play off nations against each other like that hasnt been done that well since. Bret Hart turning on the United States because they turned on him. That whole period was re\ally nuanced for a WWE program: Shawn turning heel after Bret turned but turning heel in a different way, Austin as the anti-hero, and then all of the stuff that led into Survivor Series. Storyline-wise, that was probably my favorite in WWE history.
Honourable Mention:
Austin vs McMahon - Because everyone wants to Stunner their boss. the whole thing, from "YOU RUINED IT" to Fully Loaded '99, and all it encapsulated. The defining feud of the attitude era, and probably the benchmark for a modern feud. IMO the two biggest rivals in wrestling history.
Owen vs Bret - I loved the promo Owen gave after the 94 RR, "It felt good when I kicked you Bret" and Bret saying under no circumstance would he fight his own brother. Their match at WM X is one of my all time favorites. Then Owen accomplishes what Bret did a year earlier by winning the King of the Ring, adding The Anvil into the mix. Another epic match at SummerSlam in the cage. And then Owen costing Bret his title by having their mother throw in the towel for Bret against Bob Backlund. This was, in my opinion, was a perfect feud and one of the all time great storylines
Undertaker vs Kane - The original, that is. I loved how they took that idea of sibling rivalry from the Owen/Bret feud and reused it for characters that are essentially two monsters, but it still had an emotional resonance. Taker promising that he would never fight his brother was weirdly poignant.
Mickie/Trish - For a divas feud, this was really intense. Trish had a fan who loved her deeply. This eventually got out of hand and showed how brilliantly WWE could develop a character. Now some could say that maybe this feud might've been better if they went all the way with the lesbian stuff but I was happy either way. Mickie showed devotion to her character and it got over and delivered a good match at Wrestlemania 22.
Orton vs. Foley - The whole feud was excellent. From Orton being a cocky young punk taking Foley out, Foley walking away, Orton talking crap for MONTHS, Foley's return at the Rumble, Foley's incredible promos where Orton realizes he's bitten off more than he can chew, to the epic hardcore match that solidified Orton as a threat.
From WWE's official history. (02-08)
The Rated R Superstar - From getting Lita, to feuding with Matt Hardy, to stealing the belt from Cena, to feuding with Foley, to teaming with Foley, all the while being a thorn in Cenas side, 2005/6 made Edge a legit main eventer.
HBK/Flair/Jericho/Batista - Such a fantastic progression of storytelling, everything linked together and flowed so perfectly, and the end result totally changed Jerichos career.
The Nexus - Maybe I'm overexaggeratting but I don't care. The WWE had it nailed last summer. Never has a group looked so threatening, and it was totally believable, given how humiliated they had been through the ridiculousness of NXT. We were given the impression that a loss at Summerslam for the WWE couldve crippled the company, because they were booked to perfection. After Survivor Series, things blew up and the angle ended in shambles, but there are 3 moments that I always point to when emphasising just how good this angle was.
The original iNvasion. Tarver appears from nowhere, things just descend into chaos, there is no commentary, the crowd are just shocked. Look at the reactions.
The RAW before Summerslam when team WWE fully unites as Edge and Jericho turn back to the ring. The hard camera is shaking, the crowd are going absolutely insane, and when Edge throws the first punch and things boil over, the crowd are FREAKING OUT. Cenas music plays at the end and team WWE are looking like a million bucks.
CeNexus. From Hell in a Cell, one of the most gripping matches of the year, in which the fan reaction at the end summed it up, including the now famous video of a 5 year old kidk screaming at the TV and crying on YouTube. It was such a shocking turn. Not to mention *Cena sadface*, Cena was getting his best reactions ever. The promo with Roddy Piper was phenomenal, he looked like a guy that was on his last legs.
they screwed that up so badly after Survivor Series it was unreal. Barrett shouldve been champion. Cena and Orton shouldve still been enemies (When were Rock and Austin ever friends?) and Wade Barrett/John Cena 2 should be going on right now at WrestleMania for the belt. As much as I hate Cena winning the belt at WM, this would have been perfect. He couldve gone through a small angle in the time between now and Survivor Series where he questioned his decision and felt like he spat on the WWEs legacy, and the rest of the WWE turned against him. Cena doesnt have to be everyones buddy to be the top face. It worked for Sting.
