Usually, Lawler's jokes are fed by Vince himself, and I don't think he's funny but about once a month. They both have someone leading them through and feeding them lines. JR is definitely an acquired taste these days. I liked his commentary style back in the WCW days before Vince ruined him. He was a damn solid play-by-play man and didn't overdo the drama aspect of the commentary, and instead let the match do the talking (which today is impossible as the quality isn't what it was). I remember one of my favorite lines when he poked fun at Paul E. at Starrcade '92. He made reference to him coming out to ringside wearing his "dad's suit." It was real delivery and it was genuinely funny. As a wrestling fan, I like to know the names of the moves, and the "WWE storytelling" doesn't begin to cover most of that. The only WWE commentator I ever liked who did their style was Monsoon because he was very casual and fit well with Ventura or Heenan. Styles and Taz are a joke now. Watching them ignore the truth during the Big Slow/Batista match at Hammerstein was sickening. It's sad to know McMahon has them by the short-hairs. If I could choose a commentary team that would be a possibillity for TNA? Styles (without bulls*** restrictions) and Shane Douglas. Douglas did a color commentary stint during an injured period with ECW in about '98 and he was funny as hell. I don't hate Tenay and West, but they overdo it sometimes and I like Tenay better when he was a WCW utility talker who stuck to the Lucha matches because Tony didn't know the moves or wrestler's histories. West is also an acquired taste. I don't mind him. Don't love him, either.

That is because Tenay is gay. I seriously would go with a duo of Randy Savage and Mongo. Steve McMichael and Macho Man would say the dumbest shit ever on TV, but I guarantee you this, it would make for great ratings. Can you imagine, the two of them and someone like Tony S. or Mike Tenay. That would be more entertaining then the matches. If you have 24-7 online for WWE and you watch some of those old Nitro matches with Mongo or Some of the old Raw matches with Savage you will know exactly what I am talking about.

A few people have stated that Jim Ross is the best commentator.

Let me start by saying that anyone who calls good ol' JR the "greatest commentator" of all time is severely ******ed or blind or deaf or all 3. I have seen him screw up calling matches so many times, I could never keep count of them. Consistently calling wrestlers by the wrong name, calling moves by the wrong name, or just flat out not even knowing a single hold or move he sees. its embarassing as a fan.

Did you see his recent comments concerning ECW? He said the old ECW is completely dead and how he's glad because the new ECW is far superior and such.

Jesus Christ I fucking hate that fat, overrated tub of shit know as Jim Ross, a complete and utter WWE yes-man who is as brainwashed as anyone else who thinks WWE is the best. I bet he is blowing the entire Oklahome Sooners locker room as we speak.

jr used to be the standard to which everyone is compared. now he is just a corporate drone spitting out whatever he is fed, whether its actual fact or wwe created fact (theyve re-written history to many times to count).

the king was good when he was a heel announcer. which brings me to my reason for posting:

what happened to heel announcers??? they are all just call guys who push every product being put out by or sponsoring the company every few seconds.

we need some biased old school heel announcers again. we need the next Heenan!

Agreed JR is a fkn sell-out. Used to be one of the best in the biz back in WCW - now he doesnt know a single hold - not that he has to as he never calls any matches.

Schiavone for those that cant remember was the worst play by play guy ever. If you think JR doesnt know any moves, OMG!!! Noah (Tony Schiavone) knows absolutely nothing in the way of wrestling holds. Sure, his voice wasn't annoying and he could tell a good story, but he knew nothing about actual wrestling.

IMO. even though it lasted like a week, Paul Heyman has got to be the funniest color guy ever when he was with JR on RAW. Heenan was fkn awesome too.

I think that they should put Scott D'Amore and Shane Douglas on the table with __________. They need a good play by play and then the other two could be color and specialty comments. Although to be honest I dont really mind Tenay all that much.

Dude, I miss Sanders. He was Randy Orton before Randy Orton was Randy Orton (if that makes any sense). The only difference was that he was funny as hell. I still remember the Nitro where he was upgraded from "Average" to "Above Average." If Nitro hadn't gone off the air, he might already be up to Amazing or something like that. Sometimes I miss Schiavone, too. I still remember the last time Steiner won the title when his usually timid self just blurted out "THIS SUCKS!" I actually liked Mark Madden because he was just such a goon and he always made me laugh. Watching him scream "Spin-a-rooney!" for Booker T (which he originally coined) or "Fly, fatass, fly!" for Hugh Morrus was always something to chuckle about for me. I miss JR back in the pre-attitude days, myself. He was much sharper on the play-by-play and kept the focus on the matches instead of trailing off into other crap or discussing unrelated angles during someone else's match. I miss heel announcers, too. It always brings a smile to my face when I flip in my old Wrestlemanias and listen to Ventura use the term "Puke Hogan."

First off Jim Ross is the best commentator ever along with Bob Caudill and the late Gordon Solie.
Joey Styles is a very good one. I think that TNA needs to get rid of both commentators actually. Never like Tenay and West needs to go back hocking cheap knives on shopping network.
I think that they should go get former ECW announcer Joel Gertner, and also put in Cornette as a commentator maybe like Vince was in the late 80s and early 90s.
Shaivone sucked. Things I remembered about him are him almost having an orgasm everytime Kevin Nash or Sting came to the ring. Just retarted.

Anybody think that in the future, when Angle finally stops wrestling, he could make a great announcer? I think if he sticks around for a lifetime, like his letter to fans when he signed said he would (even thought I dont believe that), at some point he will become an announcer, or manage some upstart rookie and get him over big.

I don't know which announcer is which on TNA right now, but one of them has a high pitched voice and I can't stand that guy. and the dude in the bow tie annoys me just because who the hell wears a bow tie.

I think Tommy Dreamer will make a great color guy when he retires from the ring, I listen to his commentary on a few of his matches on the ECW dvds and it was pretty good, also at barely legal when he was guest commentator with joey styles for the main event
