TNA X Division Championship

Occasional Pre-Show
I understand that the title is now the mid card title. Since the tv/legends title is no longer and from what i knew it had a weight restriction of 220 pounds i believe. But on impact this week jeremy borash made a comment to grado that the title has no weight limit. Since when was that announced and if it is true why are we getting the same guys in multi man matches each week? i mean no weight restriction means we could see bram storm gunner anderson lashley etc. People who need a title and yet we still get the same weight restricted guys for what? a spot fest. So what do you guys think? should we still get the same guys or should we actually get mid card upper mid card guys holding it ?

While I agree that the TNA title has become the mid card title for TNA I still want it to stay true to X Division athletes, basically someone who can be a spot monkey/lucha/high flyer, and not get tainted by main eventers who are just going to hold the title till their next WHC feud.

I think TNA should get its roster organized and have certain wrestlers wrestling in only one division.

Aries should be a full time X Division star and be the face of that division while guys like DJ Z, Spud, Tigre Uno, Manik, Grado, Mandrews, Crazy Steve, Kenny King are all active competitors.

They should rebuild the x division as the companies special thing and make it matter because they still have a lot of potential with it.

The X division title never had a weight limit from my understanding . Somoa Joe was 280 lbs when he won the X division title. If you can keep on in the ring and have alot of charisma then you qualify for the x division title.

I think the weight limit was a Bischoff idea? Not sure if it's still in place. if Lashley or Bram could go at a fast pace like Joe then I wouldn't be opposed, but I wouldn't call that their scene really.

firstly, i dont want Austin Aries in just the X-Division. i dont mind seeing him hold the title every now and then, but i think Aries is WAY too talented to not be a main event player. i still wish TNA would push Aries like a star to build around. i'm not a fan of how the briefcase that holds the world title shot has never been successful with cash ins in tna. i was hoping Aries would break that, but he didnt.

now for the X Division Championship and the "weight limit." the X-Division title (when it first started) was a "no limits" title which to me was kinda like a hardcord/cruiserweight title mixture. then when Bischoff/Hogan came in they announced a weight limit for the title. i dont know who's idea that was, but i didnt like it since TNA doesnt really have a proper mid card title...it ended sometime after Joe won the title again.

for me, i feel the X-Divison title should be the "no limits" title and i kinda wish TNA would make a proper mid card title (like a European title, something like that) and have that title as the stepping stone title, the belt for a guy like Bram to hold. as for the X-Division title, i think that should be an entire division that guys enter in and they stick with until they decide upon option C and if they choose it, then they can't enter the X-Division for at least 6 months. that would make the X-Division title more important while also having more feuds over three great titles.

X division shouldn't be about weight, it should be extreme action. Change the rules of X Division matches to make them more exciting. They tried 3 way only and it was interesting but sloppy. I would make it so rope breaks only count for submission holds, make the count out a count of 20, things like that. Just put on amazing matches, build the title chase, and let guys in the chase cut passionate promos. Option C should go away, make a different " cash in" prop.

First of all, I think TNA should reinstate the TNA Leg-Glo-Vision Championship Title Belt. I don’t care if they call it the Legends Championship Title Belt and only have Legends compete for it. I don’t care if they call it the Global Championship Title Belt and treat it like the World Heavyweight Championship Title Belt in WWE, or the International Championship Title Belt in WCW. I don’t care if they call it the Television Championship Title Belt and treat it like the Intercontinental Championship Title Belt or the United States Championship Title Belt in WWE / WCW, or the Television Championship in WCW / ECW. I just want to see the return of the Big Red Belt…but please change the strap to Black.

As far as the X-Division Championship Title Belt goes, I think there shouldn’t be any limits, but don’t just throw anyone in the X-Division. Samoa Joe, Kurt Angle, and Abyss all had good storylines / reasons for being the X-Division Champion. Let’s not just make the X-Division Championship Title Belt TNA’s answer to WWE’s United-Continental Championship Title Belts. TNA should keep it as a specialty Championship Title and not just a Mid-Card Championship Title.

To clarify the weight limit thing… At some point TNA did put a weight limit on the X-Division. I believe it was around the same time they said that every X-Division match had to be a 3-way bout.

When they were filming in NYC last year, and Samoa Joe came out and wanted to challenge for the belt, he said that he got them to drop the limit so that he could try to win it. I hope that cleared it up.

And I agree that the Global/Legends/TV title needs to return as the secondary title, and push the X division as its own thing.

Hi andrew, I love the x division - to watch high flying wrestling matches, regardless of the weight. But grado competing in the x division is not what I want to see.

They need to give Kenny King a long title reign and have him as the mouthpiece of the X-Division.

Shelley, Sabin, Lethal, Daniels etc. all got promo time in TNA, when have you really heard or seen promos from Manik or Tigre Uno.

I like seeing all the British guys on TNA but I agree, Grado in the X Division is a bad call. They're running the risk of making it like the WWE Cruiserweight Championship. Last guy to win that before they phased it out? Hornswoggle. And I remember a few intergender matches like a godawful Jacqueline v Chavo with one arm tied behind his back on PPV. Y'know, totally misunderstanding what people want to see from a cruiserweight division

Actually, having Grado in it is maybe one of the better decisions they've made with it in a while.

I'll explain...

Grado is comedy. All comedy. All the time. Were he to win the title, and likely do so by some freak occurrence he takes advantage of, it would set up for a solid "you don't deserve that title" feud that would finally put an emphasis on the title for it being the X Division title, and not just the strap that you can cash in for a shot at the World Title once a year.

Grado isn't a long-term solution to anything, but he's a guy they can probably use to reinvigorate a largely uncared for division.

I've been saying for months, what the division needs isn't more spectacle. It needs a viable feud. Something people can get behind. Look at EC3. You know why people hate that guy? Because they've been conditioned to. Because he was built up and up and up to be this character. Keyword: character. Not acrobat. Just throwing a bunch of high-flyers into a division does little outside a couple of ooh's and ahh's at live events. What fans want to see is purpose.

As to the OP, the X Division has always been about "no limits". Since pretty much day one. The only time a weight limit was actually instituted was with the Hogan/Bischoff regime, and that got snuffed out pretty quickly when they were gone.
