TNA signs Mexican luchador "El Zorro"; More TNA/AAA News

Dave Meltzer is reporting that during Jeff Jarrett’s recent trip to Mexico, TNA Wrestling offered a contract to Asistencia Asesoría y Administración’s (AAA) superstar Zorro, and he is expected to start with the promotion at the Bound for Glory pay-per-view in October! TNA President Dixie Carter recently saw some videos featuring the former Mexican National Heavyweight Champion and was really impressed.

Dave Meltzer also noted that Jeff Jarrett spoke with both the AAA Cruiserweight Champion Jack Evans and former AAA Cruiserweight Champion Extreme Tiger. TNA Wrestling is interested in rebuilding their X Division, and is very interested in using several Luchadores.

This is fantastic news. If they add Jack Evans, they really would be building around the right guy.

The signing of Zorro coupled with the report that he's expected to be in a stable with Abyss tells me that "They" really is James Mitchell and the return of The New Church.

Zorro is a very gothic-like character in look, and if he's coming in at Bound For Glory, what other purpose would he serve if the above rumor is true? Perhaps Judas Messias is coming back as well, or perhaps Rellik? Could we see a new Ministry of Darkness type stable in TNA?

El Zorro on the right.

Could we see a new Ministry of Darkness type stable in TNA?

This would be really cool. The Ministry was one of may all time favorite stables. And they could maybe pull it off, but they may need a guy like Hogan or Bischoff to lead it.

But El Zorro isn't a gothic-like character, He is Zorro.

He's gothic in look — I'm not talking about his actual character.

He's got long black hair and in a number of photos is wearing dark eye-liner and an 18th century wardrobe that would most closely resemble the same attire worn in dated vampiric films.

Gangrel used to wear the same attire.

I, for one, am glad they'll use some of the AAA stars in TNA again (seeing as how I watch AAA weekly and am kinda getting tired of what I'm seeing there). Can't wait to see Extreme Tiger (trained by Rey Mysterio Sr., just so y'all know) in the X-Division -- only if they focus on it a little bit more. But I know there will be people who will call him a Rey Mysterio Jr. clone, but whatever, can't wait to shut 'em up when the time comes.

You can't go wrong with Jack Evans. Can't say much that hasn't been said about him. I wonder if they'll have a champion vs champion match between him and whoever the X-Division champion is at the moment.

Here's a better match (more fast-paced), though it's cut here and there for some reason; Zorro vs Mesias: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ozHXyyQl3gY&feature=related

I seem to remember another thread in which it stated that Dreamer wanted to bring more talent in (yet they didn't want Sara Del Rey recently unless she was more like TBP, which is absurd. I am outraged!). I thought they were gonna bring in Mari and Faby Apache too, but whatever.

Really glad to hear TNA are going to put a bit more effort into their X-Division. It was THE main attraction of TNA in the few years before Hogan/Bischoff and hopefully will be as successful as the crusierweight division was with WCW back in the day.

As for the talent itself, I'm in the UK, so the only AAA I get to watch is on Youtube, but El Zorro definitely looks to have a unique style, and Jack Evans has the look of a star. Honestly, the best piece of news I've heard about TNA since Hogan.

Just found this on the internet. As reported by Wrestling Inc:

TNA Ambassador Jeff Jarrett was upbeat after spending a couple of days in Mexico meeting with AAA officials. He posted on Twitter:
"Awesome meetings the last two days in Mexico City. 2011 looks exciting for TNA in Mexico…"
As we previously reported, it appears the two companies are looking to do a talent exchange and possibly co-promote some shows across the border.

I'm very excited about this. This is GREAT NEWS!

OMG. More news about this here:

The Wrestling Observer reports that TNA has signed Mexican professional wrestler Zorro and he is expected to debut at Bound For Glory apart of the "They" Abyss has been talking about. It should also be noted that the report states TNA have interest in Extreme Tiger and Jack Evans while AAA have interest in TNA World Tag Champions, The Motorcity Machine Guns (Chris Sabin & Alex Shelly).

From ImpactWrestling:

TNA has offered Zorro a contract and he is expected to be in a new stable with Abyss.

Oh. Mai. Gawd. This is awesome! Clap clap, clap clap clap. AAA better come to Houston if they decide to tour here... Wait...co-promote shows SOUTH of the border? Bummer.

But hey, maybe we'll be treated to a Beer Money (or Corporation, like the AAA commentator kept calling 'em during Triplemania) vs Ultimo Gladiator and Silver King match since they were eliminated by them at the aforementioned event. I remember this from the match:

Gotta find a video of...whatever that's called. Super-duper plex? Whaaaaaaaaaaat?! Eye dee kay, but someone who watched it might know.

Here's a highlight video of Triplemania XVIII: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kWAizcxmD2c

Haha, Storm drinking a Corona.

And I can't wait to see MCMG is AAA!!!!!!! =D

they can make zorro look dark just have him wear black clothes and eye liner and goth shit like that. im glad i know who they is now. damn thats bad grammer....building up the x-division is good. i 1st stared watcing tna back when it 1st aired on spike. back then the x was really good. im glad they are making a comback with them

I really like the idea of TNA using AAA talent and think that it could be very helpful for the TNA product, its a good idea for them to take some of the more talented luchadores from AAA to help rebuild the X-Division. I've seen some stuff from all of these guys and they look really impressive. Jack Evans and Extreme Tiger would really good additions for the X-Division. Zorro also looks pretty impressive and I wouldn't mind seeing him in some type of stable with Abyss and James Mitchell it could be a New Church or Ministry of Darkness stable which could be rather interesting. If these reports are True, I think that this will be a good signing for TNA.

This seems pretty damn good for TNA,now lets just hope they dont make one of their trademark "collossal fuck-ups" like they did with RoH.Hell maybe even TNA could do something with japan...

I'm liking this link with Mexico... (being one for weird facts...) Did you know the language that has the most speakers in the US is spanish, most of them being Mexicans. Theres just one of many reasons to sign Mexican stars *the other few being they are pretty damn good*. If they end up doing a bit more with Japan and not have a World Elite type thing again it can be potentially great for TNA.

I gotta think this is just more smokescreening by TNA. Talking about the 'Zorro singing to be part of the Abyss angle'. Why would TNA let this news escape a week & a half before the PPV? They've kept everything so tight-lipped for so long. But all of a sudden they sign a new guy & now its already known that he'll be joining Abyss at BFG?

Doesnt add up to me. But what do I know??

This is really interesting. I just looked at a video of him and he seems good; his style is different, so hopefully he does add something to the X Division. TNA seems to be bringing in a few 'gimmick-y' characters recently, with him taken from Zorro obviously and the Jersey Shore couple. Maybe they're trying to rely on popular culture to bring in fans and hey, if it works, all the power to them, but gimmick character tend to get stale after a while. I'm looking forward to seeing him in TNA, but how far he can go with his character all depends.

In regards to AAA being 'they', I do actually think it could add up and Dixie would be right, it'd change the landscape of TNA forever. However, changing TNA forever doesn't mean it would be a good thing, it could always backfire and all the high expectations the fans have for the angle may not be met, but then again, meeting expectations is a rare thing.

I think it'd be a shame if this was the 'they' angle and it had been spoiled through Twitter. I remember reading a thread on this forum discussing if Twitter spoiled pro-wrestling and, if the case of this happens to be true, I think that thread may have had a point.

So, in conclusion, I'm looking forward to El Zorro because of his style and the chance to revive the X Division, but the gimmick and chance of 'they' being spoiled is quite worrying. Hopefully TNA manage to keep it under wraps until 10-10-10; it would be a very well-kept mystery in the days of the internet and sites like this if they do.

That is great news, can't wait for the debut of zorro and possibly also xtreme tiger and who better than jack evans to rebuild the x-division around. If TNA AND AAA continue they're partnership only good things will happen.AAA has so much talent that could help the x-division guys like laredo kid, aerostar everready gato which kinda reminds me of suicide from TNA just to name a few,and not to mention the knockouts division's voids could also be filled by THE APACHES sisters, cinthia moreno, sexy star, and california's own punk rock goddess Christina Von Eerie.

I love it. El Zorro seems to be a pretty entertaining guy to watch, same goes for Extreme Tiger, so this is a good signing.

As far as someone saying something about him being too gimick-y, I agree. But he's signed with TNA and they do with him whatever the want. Plus, it's not like he's acting like Zorro all the time. Could prove to be cool.

Now, El Zorro being a part of they is, imo, complete speculation. I think whoever wrote that, just wrote it to get attention because of Zorro's looks and the fact that B.F.G is next week. I won't buy into it. "They" was planned a long time ago, and they JUST signed the guy.

But who knows, maybe Bob and Janice Carter are sick of the way things are in TNA, they want to re-build the X-Division, the K.O's Division and the mid-card and Main Event division, so they bring people for each of these departments of TNA wrestling and make these guys look really good and everything. I don't know, shooting in the dark.

It seems the idea is Bob and Janice Carter will send Abyss and these new guys (El Zorro, Extreme Tiger, Jack Evans, etc.) to be apart of his new group/stable who will take out wrestlers THEY Bob and Janice don't like.

Dixie will be one of them. Bob and Janice will make moves like going Live every week or going on the Road eventually which would make the fans happy and like them but they would do something to make the fans hate them as well pulling a Vince McMahon-ish persona with them.

Hey guys

I just found out that this thing with AAA was done deal 6 months ago. I found this video on YouTube, posted on March 7, 2010, were the President of AAA confirms the deal.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AAAIMbm-vuY&feature=related

It's in Spanish. So for those who don't speak the language, here's what he said:

1:24 - "Also my friends, it’s my pleasure to inform you that thanks to the great job that my son Royal Roldan has done in the United States, we have made an alliance with TNA, one of the most important federations in the United States. In the next few weeks, I will give you more details about this deal."

Then on 2:30 Hernandez gives more information. Don’t need to translate this but just in case:

2:30 - "Hello to the people of AAA. TNA is the leader of professional wrestling. We will start with the Crown Jewels of Mexico in AAA on March 12 at the King of Kings. All has been done… for TNA to have AAA’s championships, all AAA’s money, all AAA’s women… but above all, TNA will have AAA’s pride. For the people of AAA, SO SORRY! "

So I have a feeling that "THEY" are guys from AAA invading TNA.

:D

I wonder ... AAA has a six sided ring, right? Do you think that they could bring it back in some way? I'd want to see that, really.

Why? It has no effect on the product. It's a total prop that makes the viewing kinda awkward. Stick to the basics.

AAA is not in America.

That would actually make a ton of sense. AAA/TNA has been in partnerships for awhile now, sending TNA stars there and AAA stars to TNA.

This could be a cross promotion deal. It's very interesting this storyline happens around the time AAA starts getting into the American market.

Because it's the one thing TNA had visually different from the other wrestling companies and they replaced it with a 4 sided ring. It doesn't have an effect on the product but it sends a message as soon as you see the product. Thinking outside the box, being creative, being different. It's what made me watch TNA in the first place. It made me take notice. I miss the six sides cuz it represented things about TNA's mentality.

Actually, I thought this was for TNA wrestlers to head over to AAA. I remember Rey de Reyes and seeing Mr. Anderson there. For weeks Hernandez appeared a few times and whatnot. I guess they're bringing in the AAA wrestlers over to TNA now.

I'm all for signing new talent, but these guys can't be "they". I'm expecting Batista, carlito and other ex WWE guys.
