TNA Knockout name changes

This week on Impact Angel Williams and Talia Madison were introduced as Angelina Love and Velvet Sky. Now, name changes don't bother me if its a gimmick change (ie Havok to Johnny Devine is ok) or if they have just joined the promotion, but these two have wrestled at two PPV's under their original names. It was also very weird to hear the new names yet they have the same ring attire and entrance music.

Aside from that, Angel Williams is a damn perfect ring name (nevermind that it is her real name as well) and to change it to something as uninspiring as Angelina Love makes me believe someone from the RAW creative team snuck in on the last Impact production meeting. Imagine if on RAW this Monday Mickie James came out as usual, but was annouced as Mikah Seduction, thats how stupid this name change is.

TNA is growing with each show and PPV, which means they need to start acting like a big time promotion. You can't change the names of your wrestlers and expect no one to notice, which is what I think they were hoping. TNA screwing with little things like this get me worried that they are no ready to make it going head to head with WWE.

I dont like their new ring names...but it really isnt a big deal. I will just have ti get used to them the same way I had to get used to John Morrision. I think they should have kept the original names since the were pretty decent ring names)or better than Love & Sky) but its all about TNA trademarking the names.

It was easy to get used to John Morrison because it was a gimmick change. He didn't act like Johnny Nitro, he had new music, and a new look. These two have the exact same look, gimmick, and music. The names just changed out of nowhere for no reason, plus they're horrible.

Holy Fuck, I could have sworn I just got done arguing this on another forum. Talia and Angel changed their names so that they could give TNA a name to trademark, its the same reason Amazing Kong goes by Awesome Kong in TNA and not Amazing Kong. By doing this Talia and Angel can use their original names anywhere outside of TNA (so if Angel or Talia ever decide to go back to WWE or appear at an indy show, they can use the names Talia Madison and Angel Williams, because they won't be trademarked by TNA.)

I'm not that big of a fan of the name changes, but what can you do? At least TNA doesn't have the names Talia Madison and Angel Williams trademarked. Besides the name Velvet Sky and Angelina Love could turn into hippie like gimmicks for Talia and maybe as well for Angel.

I just mentioned this same thing in the "what's wrong with tna" thread. And I agree that it's just annoying to go out and change someones name so that you can own the trademark, but I guess business is business. I do think that they should have done that originally though. And Velvet Sky is just dumb. She doesn't even have a real name to call her now. What are they going to do say "Hey there sky?"

With John Morrision it was simple. The first name is the same and did you really think his last name was Nitro? It was basically supposed to be him saying "I'm, a big deal I'll use my real name instead of this gimmick name." Yes I know, it's not his real name, but for storyline purposes it is.

TNA cant trademark their REAL NAMES, like, when Jeff Hardy was in TNA, he was Jeff Hardy, he comes back to WWe, he's still Jeff Hardy, they cant copyright someones real name... like if John Cena went to TNA, he could still be known as John Cena, and if the wrestler themselves owns the trademark (i.e. Hulk Hogan, Sting, Rob Van Dam) They can use it anywhere they want, for anything...

Personally the name changes are in my opinion awful. Angenlina Love and Velvet Sky just sound like rubbish wimp names not female wrestlers names. What was wrong with the original names? TNA needs to act like a good company and so by changing names like this to what i feel is dumbed down names really does them no favours at all.

It's just like when the Alpha Male Monty Brown went to WWE and was known as Marcus Corvon. They needed something they could trademark and own. Talia and Angle probably did not want to do that, just like when Low Ki didn't want to, and hence the name changes. But it's not like they will be impact players in the women's division anyways. The main women are ODB, Awesome Kong, Gail Kim, and maybe Cristie Hemme and Roxy. So it doesn't matter what you call these two, they will be jobbing in the end.

Honestly, I haven't been that impressed with the Knockouts. I always liked Gail Kim so that hasn't been the problem. And I happen to like Talia and Angel or should I say Velvet Sky and Angelina Love though I must agree the names don't make all that much sense to me. As for Awesome Kong, big whoop. It's a woman who towers over all the knockouts and weighs more than all of em and a powerhouse for the knockouts. It's nothing that new to me. Then you have ODB. Somebody tell me please how the hell this is over with the crowd. She looks like a guy, does the stupidest poses and noises, talks like she has larangitis and the whole spank/wedgies what is up with that? And always with the flask it's like "Okay. We get it. Your name stands for one dirty bitch and you're supposed to be drunk out of your mind." The only thing worse than a bad gimmick is a gimmick so bad that you almost feel your brain cells die watching it. I haven't been that confused about a gimmick going over with the crowd since WWE started that Jimmy Wang Yang.
