TNA backstage segments

Occasional Pre-Show
I don't know if you feel the same way, but whenever a backstage segment is cut in TNA, it just has a different feel to it compared to some of the big league ones cut by WWE and or WCW.

Of course, this was changed (in my opinion) on 1/4/2010 where I felt that it's beginning to be more and more closer to the type of segments cut on for example in WWE and such.

What are your opinions on this? Although backstage segments might not play such an important role in the overall product, however, it's pretty interesting to look at.

Do you feel differently whenever you see a segment or even perhaps a promo being cut on camera in TNA?

Personally, I think the answer lies in the crowd response. Whenever you hear a promo cut in WWE, there's always some kind of response or ovation from the crowd. However, when you listen to ones made in TNA, the size of the crowd is simply too small compared to big league promotions. I think this plays a role in feeling almost different when you watch TNA. But hey, there are other possible reasons, so discuss.

The crowd does play a big part in making a promo watchable. Say The Pope drops a witty line on Desmond Wolfe. I'll laugh, but if the crowd isn't laughing, I'll stop pretty fast.

TNA's backstage segments have gotten a whole lot better, with the exception of anything including Bubba The Diaphragm. They add to the story and help other fans know a little more about their character. In my opinion, they play almost as big of a role as the wrestling itself. Like my favorite guy in TNA right now is The Pope, and if he didn't talk or talked like most of the guys in WWE, I probably would be thinking otherwise. Same goes for The Beautiful People, without good backstage segments, they would just be 3 Maryses.

TNA is getting better in segments because of the olded guys like Hogan, the band, and Bishoff to name a few.... They are interesting personlities. We love to watch them. Also the pope does a pretty good job. But AJ Styles is terrible and so is Joe and Daniels they have alot of young wrestlers who hit high spots in a match and then who personally do not deserve the tv time to bore up TNA segments

Well, I agree that segments most definitely gotten better. The crowd is small in comparison to WWE, however, we have read Hogan comments about wanting to expand the Impact zone because he felt it was way too small. Plus, going live every monday, i doubt they would be sticking around in Orlando.

Personally i believe AJ Styles have gotten better and that Joe have been pretty decent on the mike. It goes without saying that Kurt Angle have had the best backstage segments. Backstage segments help you identify the characters so I hope TNA continue to improve.

I miss Foley's backstage segments. Whether he was heel or face they were always fun to watch. I enjoy Hogan and Bischoff's backstage segments. Hogan's confrontation with Jarrett was classic, and the show down between Bischoff and Foley was pretty good.

Yeah, I think the crowd response does play a part in the backstage segments sometimes. When John Cena is shown backstage, you can hear the massive pop he gets from the crowd. In TNA, when Pope or Angle or Styles is shown backstage, you hear a response, but nothing like you would in WWE. The pop makes the promo backstage seem more interesting. Now of course a lot of this has to do with TNA's crowd being smaller than WWE's crowds.

I think the main reason the fans dont react as loud (from reading some spoilers) is that the fans do not get to see them. In the spoilers you never read "so and so said this backstage" Even a few weeks ago Red was attacked backstage by Homicide and they fought to the ring and the spoiler guy wrote "red and Homicide fought to the ring....must have been something backstage we didnt get to watch." They dont show the backstage stuff most of the time. May have changed but that's probably why you dont hear much cause I know if Pope was talking you would hear huge laughter.

The backstage segments in TNA have significantly improved over the past few years. The interview area and locker room areas have gotten some much-needed facelifts, making the interviews seem more "big league." This is a key element in TNA's goal in competing with WWE. The overall production value of the show needs to appear better, and the backstage area is a start.

The only drawback to this though, is the fan element. Everyone has mentioned that the backstage segments in WWE are much better because of fan interaction, the response to what is happening.

I remember an interview back when Christian (Cage) was the NWA (TNA) Champion, He shouted out, to the Impact Zone, "Who's the champion!?" No response. He had to improvise, jumping on Borash, saying, "C'mon, bitch, who's the champion?" The dead silence spoke volumes.

Until TNA leaves the Impact Zone and starts touring in bigger arenas (which may be a while), they risk showing how minor-league they appear to be versus the WWE, by showing the small reactions (if any) of the Orlando crowd.

i think the art of the back stage promo's has been ruined. the first back stage promo i've seen was hogan walking down a hallway right before his entrance to a tag match with Mr. T. the whole reason for even showing what goes on back stage was to give wrestling a sence of realisim.

another great exapmle was SC steve austin walking down the hallway right before his match at WM 14 for the title. when people saw that there was a hudge pop from the crowd. it was always ment to give a sneak peak before a wrestler went "ON"

today back stage promo's are cheesy & ill scripted / bad acted and just plane usless most of the time. back stage promos were great once but have been watered down over the years.
