Quarterback is without a doubt the most important position in the NFL. There are some teams that have veterans that aren't playing as well as they usually do and there are other teams with young qb's that were thought to be the future but are struggling.
I'll list the qb's, you tell me whether they should get another shot as the starter next year or if the team should move on. Obvious teams like the Niners, Cardinals, and Vikings (assuming Favre retires) will be left off.
Redskins: Donovann McNabb- He was just given a huge contract by the Skins but they have an out if he's released after this year. I say they should keep him because the team has talent so rebuilding around a young qb would be a step back and they aren't going to find any veteran better then McNabb. They need to focus on improving other aspects of the team.
Seahawks: Matt Hasselbeck- I say keep him the starter next year. They should get a young guy in there to learn behind him but he needs to be kept at least another year. He is playing good this season and has the Seahawks poised to make the playoffs. Charlie Whitehurst is not the future in Seattle.
Dolphins: Chad Henne - Once again I say keep him as the starter. He really didn't play bad at all this year and has actually had a solid season. He is also better then any other option they have. Thigpen is fine for a few starts but he isn't a full time guy and Chad Pennington just can't stay on the field. The Dolphins running game is what let them down the most this year.
Bengals: Carson Palmer- I think it's time for Carson to go. I don't think he is necessarily finished as a starting qb in this league but for the Bengals it just isn't working out. He seems to be digressing every year. He needs a change of scenery and the Bengals need someone to look towards the future.
Jaguars: David Garrard- This may surprise people but I say keep him for another year. For all of the hate he gets, Garrard is having a great year. He has completed nearly 68% of his passes for 1,700 yards, 17 tds, and 10 picks. His 98.5 qb rating ranks 6th in the league. He has a few too may turnovers this year but nothing overly bad. The Jags are not going to get a high enough draft pick to get a rookie who will be ready to contribute and there won't be any veteran out there that is a better fit.
Titans: Vince Young- It's time to move on. This isn't because of his play, it's because of his character. The guy has all the talent in the world but he needs to grow up. The Titans can go out and find some veteran, maybe a Carson Palmer if he's available, and they will be better off.
Broncos: Kyle Orton- They should keep him for at least one more year as the starter. I have said it before and I will say it again: Tim Tebow is never going to be a successful starting qb in this league. I know a lot of people disagree but until he proves me wrong I'm standing by that statement. Orton is not a great qb but the Broncos are not a great team and they have a lot more pressing issues. Orton has been one of the few bright spots this year.
