The WZT Verbal RKO thread

Hold on, I'm gonna use an excuse the Hoban fan boys love to use.

"When Lesnar lost to Cena and Triple H, well he wasn't in his prime anymore." Also, he beat Trips 2 out of 3 times, he beat Angle in their most important match at WM 19, Angle had also beaten Hogan and made him tap at the King of the Ring the year before, he only lost to Eddie because of Goldberg, and Goldberg was able to beat nWo Prime Hogan. Lesnar has also defeated CM Punk who was arguably still in his prime, and he beat the streak. Try to diminish that fact all you want but it was and is still incredible that he did it.

Hogan is out, Vote Lesnar.

Can someone make sense of this to me? I tried, but it's a struggle.

Short answer - no.
Long answer - no, but I like having an excuse to use that meme.

The tournament's never led me to hate a wrestler before, but I think I hate Lesnar now just because of the sheer amount of wank that's been posted in his name.

I truly dislike that Phenom is on my side of the argument.

I may not want to stick to kayfabe, but I'd never say "Lesnar made Austin leave."

I am truly amazed that he hasn't brought in that Lesnar could actually kick Hogan's ass! If he's going to bring in what happened in reality at least that would have something to actually do with Hogan.

I never got this focus on primes, so much. Maybe peak would be a better way for me to look at it. But was there ever really a Kayfabe point when anyone (except maybe Kidman) said "Fuckit, its only Hogan!". TNA doesn't count.

A guy like the undertaker has no clear Prime, but everyone concidered fighting taker at mania to be a pretty good deal. The Rock can still take it straight to Cena any time he wants, and you better believe Austin could too.

Or maybe I just don't put as much steam into the booking process as some of you guys, cause when was a top guy not booked like he was the best?

I don't much like relying on the kayfabe as much as others because, as you stated, the top guy from X era is always going to be booked as unbeatable no matter who they face.

Which kind of renders the whole idea of annual tournaments fairly moot I think, because people could (and probably have) argue that someone like Hogan should/could not lose to anyone other than Austin/Cena because he was booked as the Invincible Hero and basically a Mary Sue'd character.

I wouldn't be surprised to see people argue against Bryan, Backlund or Hart if they were pit against Hogan in say, a Submission Match. The only way Bryan, Backlund and Hart could defeat Hogan is the same way that Hart beat Austin in their Submission Match, and that's just boring to me.

Hulk Hogan beats Andre's 15+ year undefeated streak and no one bats an eye. But Brock Lesnar beats Undertaker past his prime and everyone loses their minds.

In reality, Flair probably would be more likely to win in the UK. However, Misawa is not, to my knowledge, ridiculously overrated by fans of Japanese wrestling. This isn't a vote for Misawa, it's a vote against every idiot who thinks Ric Flair is the greatest wrestler of all time. He wasn't. During his peak, during the four horsemen all of that, the USA audience was overwhelmingly watching someone else. Ric Flair was the AJ Styles of the 80s, except with much shitter matches. Oh he's fallen over AMAZING SELLING. The trouble is, most people who have stuck with wrestling were NWA fans as they are used to settling for mediocrity and didn't experience the void WWF fans faced after Warrior, Hogan and Savage jumped ship within a year or two of each other, and as a result they have massively inflated the abilities of Flair.

Because having a career that's nearly spanned 40 years, and 30 of those were as a top guy in his promotion is massively inflated. Damn, Tasty.
