The Warrior

So who has seen this movie? I live in the UK and it is not yet out on general release. Having read the reviews of Warrior, I cannot wait to see it!

A few months ago when I first saw the trailer I had my reservations. It looked like a 'b movie' and straight to DVD (add to the fact Kurt Angle was in it :)).

Nick Nolte and certainly Tom Hardy gives the cast some credibility though. Hardy is slowly but surely making a huge name for himself wordlwide which is good. His role as Bane will be his breakout role and really 'put him up there'.

Back to Warrior, it seems The Wrestler and more recently The Fighter have really pumped some life back into this genre. Not since Rocky have we seen the success's these movies have made.

Sure, I bet it is cliched to fuck, it has to be but cliches or not I cant wait so tell me more!

I went to see it yesterday and it was good, but not quite as good as The Fighter.

Due to bumping into an old teacher on the way there and then being held up by a sickeningly loved up couple ahead of me in the queue, I missed the first few minutes of the film so I kept wondering what I had missed. So that kinda overshadowed the film in some respects as I don't know if I missed a flashback to when they were all younger or what.

Honestly, Tom Hardy was the draw for me to see the film initially, and while he looked fucking impressive and unfuckwithable, the film was stolen by Joel Edgerton quite easily. Hardy's 'Tommy' was a simple character which didn't really allow for a lot of variation as Tommy just powers through opponents/people without any flair and was simply a functioning human wrecking machine. The tenderness he shows his dad in the hotel room and via a couple of facial alterations at the conference centre for the fights were great touches though and gave him another dimension, just not too much of one.

Edgerton's 'Brendan' was a fantastic counter-balance to Tommy's powerhouse persona by being a lot more calculated, strategic and working hard. I liked that both brothers fighting style felt very natural to their characters too, very basic thing but it drove the drama for Brendan's fights.

All in all, a very good film that recalls a Greek tragedy, but I'll need to see it again the whole way through before deciding how much I liked it. Definitely sticks with you though and gives me high hopes for Bain in the next Batman too.

I watched it as well. It is not the best movie of the year, like some people say, but it is still in my top 5. The acting was great. The scene in the hotel room with Tommy and his dad was really powerful.

The action was fun, and even though the movie was about 2 hours long, it never once dragged on. Very easy movie to sit through. At least it was for me. My only problem with the movie was the ending and that they tried a bit too hard to make it seem like some epic. I remember thinking "thats it?" after the movie had ended just like that.
