The Use Of Blood In 2011

Who here wouldn't like to see Cena being laid out by a vicious heel and busted wide open. I mean it would be extremely compelling and a change from the boring norm of said heel running for his life from Cena. Having it to where a guy can get busted open at any time makes it more entertaining.

If you want simulated violence that isn't actually violent, you need to go watch Power Rangers Samurai.

Like most have said, I have no problem with using it sparingly. Like as in once every couple of months. It's not really needed to show a violent match.

That's incredibly foolish. Why is blood necessary when showing a good match? Wrestling is about storytelling and selling in the ring. Blood is not needed to sell a violent match. Look at Christian vs. Orton; great rilvalry, great cage match and not once was blood needed. If you want sex, violence and blood go watch some hardcore porn, don't put that shit on my wrestling show please. K,thanks.

I find myself nodding in agreement with this (and I'm an old fart), although I think some people would be better off watching the boxing or cage fighting rather than the pron. When a wrestler bleeds I don't think "kill him! kill him!" I think "oh no he's really hurt" which would be appropriate if it was real but let's face it, the only people who now believe in kayfabe are small children and times and cultural outlook have changed in the last 10 years, not having blood isn't going to utterly ruin it for adults but it would for a lot of the children of today.

I do feel that blood can be used to tell stories from time to time in a brutal match and I have a feeling that blood may be used in some matches from now on now that Triple H is in charge. I was reading an interview of HHH on the main page the other day and he was talking about how you have got to make the product sterile sometimes to make it cool again or else the edgy stuff loses its edge. While this line does suggest that blood and several other edgy elements were overused in the past, it also suggests that Triple H is looking to make the product cool again. It was also reported on WrestleZone that Triple H was looking to take special permission from the executives of the USA Network to have a segment on Raw in which Triple H would be beating Punk to a bloody pulp.

One thing that I am certain about is that it should not be overused. However I disagree at times when people say that the lack of blood has made wrestling safer. I know that they are looking at the diseases like Hep C and them not spreading due to the lack of blood but I feel that there is more to it. Brutal matches still happen in wrestling and we do know that wrestlers have to work extra hard than they would have if blading was allowed. As such there are sometimes certain bumps in these matches that can cause life threatening injuries and therefore can be more fatal for a wrestler than blading. Sometimes blading can simplify the job for a wrestler. Also I do feel that if wrestlers are checked regularly for Hep C and other such diseases, it would make even the wrestlers feel safer about working with blood.

I am against the Attitude Era-esque use of blood but for a match or two, especially gimmick matches like a Hell in a Cell match or a Last Man Standing match, I would not mind the use of blood at all. It certainly adds to the story of a match if used judiciously.
