"The USA Guy" Derrick Bateman

Derrick Bateman has recently been promoting a new character he has came up with on YouTube named "The USA Guy" where he has basically took many of the cliche aspects of American culture and rolled them all up into a new character for himself. He has been promoting this through a series of online vignettes such as this...

WWE's twitter account has also been helping to promote the character so it looks like WWE maybe invested in this also.

I personally think this is a great idea for a character and Bateman has the charisma to pull it off. The vignettes, although a little amateur are entertaining and funny and this over the top character in my opinion could be just the thing to launch bateman onto the main roster in a permanent role.

It also opens up the chance at teaming him with "The All American American" Jack Swagger, which would be a lot of fun to watch also.

It's also great to see young guys coming up with their own ideas for characters. It's really nice to see someone finally taking the initiative!

Bateman is incredibly charismatic, his work with Bryan on NXT Season 4 was stellar. I think Bateman could pull it off, and if this is what it takes for WWE to get behind him I'm all for it.

We have an Extremely European United States Champion at the moment... I think THE USA GUY needs to do something about it!!!

Derrick Bateman was pretty much the only highlight of NXT Season 4. He just oozed charisma and a guy like him could definitely pull this off. An immediate feud with Antonio Cesaro has got to happen. USA Guy for US Champ!

WWE really dropped the ball after Season 4 of NXT finished up. I know Bateman was injured, and he lost a lot of steam because of it, but he was still fresh enough to where he could have been brought up to the main roster instead of letting him flounder on NXT Redemption as a heel when he has the natural face charisma of a performer I can see doing huge things. "The USA Guy" is the gimmick Bateman was made to born to perform under. He could easily be slid into the mid card and make some kind of impact right away. I'd love to see him start using lines like Hogan used to for the kids. There's also a lot of potential for a heel character in "The USA Guy". The big topic he could bring up is obesity. Imagine Bateman just coming out and berating fat kids each week in the audience. Offering them a bag of candy or $100 if they can do 10 pushups/situps, and then if any of them get close, he could find someway to DQ them. It would be quick, easy, massive heat.

I hope WWE doesn't drop the ball twice with him.

it's great to know that WWE is doing something right with bateman, I honestly didn't watch him before NXT season 6 but he really impressed me a lot.

it would be a great idea to make him feud with Cesaro over the US title.

I’m actually looking forward to this if it ever eventuates. I’m not a fan of Bateman but those vignettes are actually pretty funny and it’s been a while since we’ve seen an over the top patriot type of character. It could be pleasantly surprising but it’s a mid card gimmick at best, and there’s nothing wrong with that. A US title run could be pretty entertaining.
