The Sports Bar

Castellanos, from the scouting reports I've read, was quite raw at 3rd. He had the potential to be average defensively, but with him playing in the OF over the past year+, it's definitely a wonder on if he can jump back and be decent right away. I'd err on the side of caution with him. Even if his bat is MLB ready, I think he wouldn't hurt spending the beginning of 2014 in AAA practicing either OF or 3B (but for the love of god pick one, plz).

As for the trade, like it. Don't love it (Kinsler is essentially a faster Infante) but you can't be mad at getting out of some of that contract.

So thanks to Drew Brees and Desean Jackson underachieving, I lost by less than 2 pts in the WZ Fantasy Football league. Live by the sword, die by it.

Brees didn't underachieve, he faced off with the Legion of Boom. I wasn't at all surprised by him putting up a sub-20 game.

I love it though as I am still alive in said league. If only by the skin of my teeth.

Well, not often you see the Yankees get outbid for someone. Cano to the Mariners, 10/240.

Like most 10 year deals, I don't think it'll look very good around age 36 on, but these early years could give the Mariners a lot of value. Additionally, the Mariners seem to be all in now. There's been rumors of a Price for Walker (their top pitching prospect) and some, which would give them a hell of a 1-2 punch in the rotation.

Definitely not crowning them anything as we know from past history how some of these offseason winners turn out to be (Angels last few years, Blue Jays, etc.), but they'll be much improved on offense at least for this first year.

Cano will lead the league in intentional walks unless they get a ton more offensive help. The move doesn't make a lot of sense for the Mariners unless they start doing a Dodgers and suddenly triple their payroll and buy a ton of people. The Rangers can attest to that during their time with Alex Rodriguez.

As a Yankee fan while it sucks he's gone he clearly didn't really want to be here as he didn't engage in any talks of an extension and was against any semblance of a hometown discount. I don't blame him at all for taking the Mariner offer as it is about $75 Million more then the Yankees were gonna offer

Cano wasn't the only guy to leave the Yankees yesterday. Granderson signed with the Mets (4 years $60M) in a move I had objectively wanted the Mets to make all offseason (and all 2013 regular season too for that matter). Also, the Yankees got "revenge" on the Mets by signing former Met Carlos Beltran to a 3 year $45M deal. The Yankee Outfield now consists of Brett Gardner, Ellsbury, Ichiro, Beltran, Alfonso Soriano, and Vernon Wells. 3 OF spots plus DH means 2 of those guys are riding the pine, unless they put Soriano back to the position he came up at but hasn't played in 13 years (2nd Base).

I don't think they're done at all. I believe they have something like $65 million payroll right now and could go up to as much as $100ish. Cruz, Choo, etc. are gonna be in play for them, as is a trade.

I don't know whether to hate Andrew Bynum or pity him. It's pretty hard to pity him when he's making millions for doing jack shit, though.

So, Lakers looking into swapping Bynum for Gasol? Interesting. As a Lakers fan, I wouldn't mind seeing this trade. I personally always thought getting rid of Odom over Gasol was a mistake. And trading Bynum for Howard was too. So yeah, I'd like to see this happen. Gasol is gone anyways after this season, why not see what Bynum can offer.

Say hello to Clark Cub, everyone!

Because why build a winner when you can tack on a shitty mascot and call it a day?

And now Jim Caldwell to the Lions. Very very interesting. I did not think I actually hadn't even though of him, he's slipped my mind for awhile. Was never a fan of him but I like the idea of him coaching the Lions.

I think he got a lot of bad slack for the 2011 season, as most of it was more related to Manning's injury along with many other blows to the team that season. Yes it was still an awful season, the worst in the league, so it is slightly justified.

But I think he's a good choice for the Lions, because with a talented team he can take them far just like he did with the Colts for many years.

Enjoy Coach Caldwell, Lions. He's better than Cam Cameron.

The problem is the only head coaching job he had in Indy was the 2011 season. Because every other season he was in the head coaches chair, we all know who the real coach of that team was. At least the offense. Not a good sample size.

At least the Lions could get a coach. LOLBROWNS

Also, the people of Denver learned nothing from the people of New England:

As Jake Roberts can attest, Arrogance can be blinding.

Out with "Durantula", in with "The Slim Reaper". Sick nickname, IMO, and very appropriate.

Kevin Durant's month-long rampage through the NBA has earned him a menacing new nickname: The Slim Reaper. The artist behind pixelfucks.com ran with the idea and created the image (below)

Part of a conversation I overheard yesterday between a couple I estimate in their mid 20s.

Woman: “The Super Bowl is boring this year. The teams in it aren’t exciting at all.”

Man: “Who’s in it?”

Woman: “The Broncos and the Seahawks.”

Man: “The Broncos are Denver, right?”

Woman: “Yeah. I don’t know where the Seahawks play.”

Man: “Indianapolis?”

Woman: (laughing) “No, that’s the Vikings.”

I get that not everyone is a sports fan. I don’t expect them to be. This year in the Super Bowl we have the two number one seeds and the number one offense against the number one defense. We also have arguably the biggest star in the game in Peyton Manning as QB for one of the teams. Obviously the couple doesn’t know any of this and that’s fine. I just wonder what matchup they would consider exciting.

Where are you again? Probably whoever the local team is versus the Patriots.

Actually, probably just the Patriots.

Maybe because of the John Harbaugh vs Jim Harbaugh story last year, and the year before that it was Giants vs Patriots V2. I guess they were sort of expecting the same thing this year for whatever reason. Even though I think this Super Bowl is way more exciting than before, especially because it's probably Manning's last chance at winning another one.

New York vs. whatever team has a player that is banging a Kardashian is what they would consider exciting. And maybe New England because Brady is married to a model.

This Super Bowl marketing is more about the location and potential weather conditions then the participants. It'll make for an interesting game but one that lacks interest from non-fans.

At the time I thought what Richard Sherman said was hilarious, and actually justified.

But now honestly I wish he hadn't said it, because now nobody will shut the hell up about it. It's going to be a long week.

It has been truly exhausting. Funny enough, it was one of his lesser douchey moments.

So any of you have a take on the Dr.V - Grantland controversy? I have been looking like an insensitive mongrel all day over it.
