The Sports Bar

I really intended on going to bed early but I just want to see who finally scores. 0-0 in the 16th inning in the Red Sox/Rays game. Only three hits for each team.

And with that said the Red Sox are on the board. Now I need Papelbon to blow the save and I might be able to pull off a win in my fantasy week. Highly unlikely but possible.

Giants have now won 5 straight and 8 of 10. I have no idea how the hell they are doing it without Posey and Sanchez and Belt.

Pablo Sandoval is looking great, getting back to '09 form, hell even better. He went 3-4 with a HR and is playing terrific on defense. If not for his injury, I think he could be considered for MVP.

And congrats are in order for Ryan Vogelsong. His 6 2/3 shutout innings qualified him to be counted and now he leads the NL in ERA with an ERA of 2.02. He has been the biggest story here in the Bay Area. He started off in the minors and now has a 7-1 record. What a story and great to see him succeed.

The Pistons hired Lawrence Frank as their new head coach. I really wanted Bill Laimbeer or Mike Woodson but Frank is still a solid hire.

I always loved the way Lawrence Frank carried himself in interviews. He's very well spoken, and very knowledgeable on the game of basketball.

His only problem, I think, is authority. Of course, I don't know the guy behind the scenes, but from afar he just seems too nice sometimes to be able to get through to a bunch of professional athletes.

That's what I thought at first too and I think that was his downfall in New Jersey but it has been said that being the lead assistant in Boston last year really helped him improve as a coach.

I know there are all you Yankee fans out there, so I threw you guys a bone in the Greatest Ever series. Now go post in it.

Although the better discussion might be who's #2, since I think it's pretty cut and dry with Ruth at 1. However, #2 has a bunch of options. So if you don't wanna just agree with me, talk about #2. I picked Jeter there.

Holy shit, I posted non-spam?!?!

Oh, and it's not cut and Dry Ruth at #1. In fact, I put someone else ahead of him. check my post in that thread out to see who I put ahead of the legendary Ruth. And remember, it's Greatest YANKEE, not greatest baseball player that was a Yankee.

Ruth did 95% of his damage as a yankee (with two years before in boston being really good). If you're picking Gehrig because he was the captain and face of the team then its fine. But to say he was a better player then Ruth is wrong.

Tomorrow the CBA will be officially approved by players. By Friday the union should be completely re-certificated. Saturday the signing of draft picks and free agents begins. Finally the NFL is back.

I certainly don't envy the front offices who have to sign free agents, draft picks, and undrafted rookies all at the same time.

It looks like the league has accelerated their timeline a little bit. Even better.

So tonight starts the 3 game set with the Giants in Philly. Last time the Giants were in Philly was when Howard looked at strike 3 to end the game and the NLCS. While it may not mean much right now, it will still be a fun series. Some revenge may be on the mind of some Phillies who didn't play so well in that series (looking squarely at Rollins).

Pirates got robbed. 19 innings and the game ends on a blown call at the plate. Not just a blown call, but probably the worst call I've seen from an umpire in 25 years.

F'n Zito. He's pretty much done now. I don't expect nor do I want to see him start another game for the Giants. The reason he they skipped his start againt thhe Brewers and put him against the Phillies was because the Phillies were left hand heavy. And yet Zito got rocked. He needs to go.

Baseball needs instant replay. No questions. They are stuck in the past, which is why their fanbase continues to get older, not younger. Calls like last night are the reason replay is necessary. 30 seconds is all it would take to look at it and see he was out.

And word is that its pretty much a done deal for the Giants to get Beltran from te Mets. No word on ezactly who the Giants have to give up, although the name Gary Brown (highly touted prospect) is going around.

With the acquisitions of Hayensworth and Chad Johnson the Patriots are getting two star caliber talents who just need the right situation so they can be controlled. New England is the perfect place for both of them and the Pats got them both for virtually nothing. New England needed impact players on both sides of the ball and they got just that.

Haynesworth and Ochocinco, and Belichick's probably not done yet.

As if I wasn't already excited as fuck for this season, now we got fucking Haynesworth and OCHOCINCO?! Jesus Christ man, that's crazy.

Both of them better know damn well they're stepping into a different environment then Washington or Cincinnati though and better understand that Bill will kick their ass if they step out of line. As it should be.

Man, fucking awesome. I can't wait to see Brady and Ochocinco together, that's a dream pairing.
