The Sports Bar

Nick Barnett signed with the Bills, good move for the Bills, he should be a huge help to them out in that department.... assuming he stays injury free.

did I just post non-spam? In the sports section? YES I DID.

Oh, and Jets getting Plax is fucking awesome. Mark Sanchez has a Red Zone target now.

I wouldn't be too hyped up about it. Sure it could be a great thing, but he could easily bomb. He's been out of action for a couple years now.

So he has fresh legs, hasn't been beaten up for a couple years, and all he has to do is run routes and catch balls (all the while he's 6'5 while pretty much all corners are smaller). He's 34, but he's 32 in football years, since he hasn't been hit in 2 years.

I'm hyped for spending 3 million for a #2 receiver that was a good #1 receiver a few years ago, and hasn't been beaten up on the field for 2 years. I know there's a risk, but there was an even bigger risk if they spent more for a guy like Braylon, or if they didn't get anyone. I don't think there will be nearly as much rust as there was for Vick since the Wide Receiver position is much different (and dare I say easier) to get back then the QB position.

That Tigers game was one of the best I've seen all season from an entertainment standpoint. Just a shame a few errors possibly cost Verlander his 3rd ever no-no.

Just saw the highlights on Sports Center. Looked like an awesome game. I had an interest in this game as I'm lucky enough to have both Verlander and Weaver on my fantasy team this year. Too bad one had to lose. This may be an exaggeration since there are two months left but Verlander beating Weaver today may lead to him beating Weaver for the Cy Young this year.

Random Post:

I'm cautiously optimistic about my Detroit Lions this season. I think they're improving, more so than I can ever remember seeing. Damn fine QB (when healthy), serviceable ball carriers, best wide receiver in the game, best defensive line in the league, and upgrades in the middle of the defense.

However, I've been through this before, many times, and they always collapse. The offensive line is still atrocious (championships are won in the trenches, and that's a fact), the secondary stinks (no depth), and our talented QB is seemingly made of glass. It's getting better, but I really hope my fellow Detroit fans aren't losing their shit like some people I know.

I don't really follow it closely enough to have a favorite team. I watch it when I can, but I can't say that I know which teams are good and which aren't. I don't know which team it is, but my dad's high school football coach's son is a GM or something along those lines for one of the teams. I know they won the Grey Cup a few years back and my dad wouldn't stop talking about it.

EDIT: Jim Popp is the guy I'm thinking of. He's my dad's high school coach's son and he is the GM of the Montreal Alouettes, who have won the Grey Cup the past two seasons.

I just realized that it was Clarence Denmark who scored that touchdown earlier for Winnipeg. He was on and off the Jags roster for the past few seasons. I always liked Denmark, but we already have a ton of player just like him.

You watching the second half of the double header, man? haha

Henry Burris was a stud in college. Sasketchewan is one of my favorite teams, so hells to teh yea

WHOA CALGARY LOOKS BADASS BLACK ALTERNATE UNIS

I was going to before I went to the CFL website trying to check out the rosters and I saw who won. I'll probably still end up watching a good majority of the game.

lulz.

I think I like Calgary too, now. Uniforms are too cool to be denied, and they play in a pretty badass stadium.

and dude, Bret Hart is from there.

Yeah, it was a hell of a duel until Guillen hit that shot and Weaver lost his shit. Guillen shouldn't have stared it down like he did, but Weaver was bitching all game (after he thought Magglio was showing him up by watching his HR; he was seeing if it went fair) and after Guillen taunted like he did I'm not surprised Weaver threw it right above Avila's head. He'll be lookin' at a suspension for that.

I'd like to say that this is the difference maker, but it would help if Weaver's ERA could either get above 2 or Verlander runs his down to about 2 (it's like 2.24 right now). Both of which are possible, but I think Weaver's will go up (slightly) these next two months. If the two are virtually identical they may look at this game, although I dont think that's the best measure because this was a game at the end of July when there was lots of game left to be played.

And I always make sure to watch Verlander pitch. Something special always seems to happen (including a no hitter, 2 into the 8th, and another into the 6th) except against the White Sox (who've gotten 8 ER on him in his last 14 IP, everyone else has gotten like nothing). Definitely a season for the ages.

It depends what their expectations are. I fully expect these guys to have a winning season and be in the playoff hunt until the end of the year. Playoffs? Eh. We'll need a few breaks to get there (just like anyone else does). But these guys should bring a competitive game every time out thanks to the talent they got and the great motivation of Jim Schwartz. They've shored up some of their back 7 problems and the depth of them will be holdovers from last years team, and they have strong players everywhere else except for maybe the OL (which will be addressed next years draft I hope).

People expecting a Super Bowl after 6-10 are crazy. Give us at least one more year. However, 9-7 or 10-6 wouldn't be out of the question for me, assuming Stafford stays healthy (which I'll bet that he will now, judging by the reports of how much stronger he's gotten this offseason).

But yeah, this is the first time in a while I can seriously be excited for a Lions team to have a chance to make some noise in the NFL. It's a great feeling to have.

Crazy question for you Megatron. Do you think there is any chance Verlander through the ball away on purpose on that bunt? I know that sounds absurd but I have to wonder. He called the play bush league. He had the no hitter going. He probably knew he couldn't make the play and instead of losing the no hitter on a "bush league play" maybe he threw the ball away to keep the no hitter in tact. It is ridiculous to consider a professional would do that during a game but I can't help that it crossed my mind.

If it was another pitcher then maybe but Verlander isn't that type of guy. He is a high character player and doing something like that just doesn't fit his personality at all.

I didn't think so. I don't have the exposure to Verlander like you do but from what I've seen of him I wouldn't expect that of him. Verlander seems like a good guy on and off the field.

No, I don't think he intentionally made that error. I think just the entire unexpectedness of it threw him off, which caused him to rush the throw and make it shitty. Had it been in the 3rd inning, he probably would've made the play. But you don't see guys bunt often that late in no hitters and I think it caught Verlander off guard and he thought he had less time then he did. Had that throw been on the mark he would've gotten the out by a step.

And yeah, I don't see Verlander doing something like that because he's generally a pretty classy guy (although I loved the stare he had at Aybar right after the bunt. Stared at him for like 10 seconds).
