The Sports Bar

I'm not a Vikings fan but he is a very good pass rushing D end. He and John Abraham are a scary tandem. ATL may have overpaid a little but it was a solid signing.

I need some Vikings fans to tell me how to feel about this Ray Edwards signing.

Overrated. Needed the Williams Wall and Jared Allen to take away pressure enough so he could get 7.5 sacks a season. Doesn't show up all the time, when he does show up he can be a beast provided he gets one on one blocking. Now that he's got his payday he could slack off worse.

Quick note: I thought this before we lost Edwards. Thought that way the year before as well. Never a big fan. I'm glad we got Brian Robison starting, he'll take advantage as a starter.

Well your opinion is always welcomed BS, I do like the outlook of a Edwards/Abraham combination especially when they have quality backup in Biermann. However,

That right there does scare me but Smith has never had a problem out of his players so hopefully Edwards gets his act straight. Plus, he's only 26 so he's got plenty of time to improve. If we can get Grimes re-signed, I like our defense for this season.

With the strong leadership ATL has in place I don't think Edwards will slack off. Plus with John Abraham on the other side I doubt Edwards will ever get double teamed. He isn't an elite D end though and ATL doesn't have the elite D tackles in place to hide that fact like Minny had.

Don't expect a slew of sacks to come from Ray Edwards. He does his best work as a run stopper, which he is damn good at it. He has a bit of an ego, but if you can keep him in check he will be fine. I wouldn't expect anything more than 10 or so sacks from the guy, but when he goes he is a good player and will be fine with the talent the Falcons have in Abraham and Babs.

I haven't been hearing anything about Tiki Barber lately, so I decided to google him, turns out there's a very good chance he'd go to my own Pittsburgh. That'd be awesome. I can see him as a second string guy, doing 3rd downs as well.

I'm surprised any team is showing interest in a 36-year-old running back who hasn't taken an NFL snap in five years. I'm especially surprised a team like the Steelers is showing interest.

Well the Pirates quietly sneak into first place and just when everyone starts to notice they go back to their old ways. Six straight losses. Sorry Pirate fans. Finishing above .500 is a more realistic goal than making it to October this year.

My kid brother is a Pirates fan and I've been busting him about how the Pirates are bound to start choking. I meant it jokingly of course as I like a lot of players they have. Just can't catch a break can they?

Pro Football HOF induction ceremony has been going on since 7 and Shannon Sharpe just gave a tremendous speech. Marshall Faulk and Deion Sanders are still left to speak.

Deion Sanders mom looked like a snake. Not in the figurative, bad person way, in the literal, like actually looked like a snake way.

Way smaller crowd than last year, when the NorCal was in attendance at the ceremony.

What say you boys about the top 25?

I chuckled seeing Arkansas above Ohio State after O State beat them in the S-Bowl and they lost their starting QB. Suppose it makes sense, Arkansas seems to be everyones dark horse favorite. Lot of pressure to put on a new starter at Qb

I don't think either team should be in the top 25. Ryan mallet was more important to that Arkansas team then people give him credit for and OSU is all sorts of fucked up with the losses and suspensions of players from last season and the loss of their head coach. It doesn't help that they have a fairly tough schedule.

Notre Dame in it? They should be somewhere between 17 and 23. If they are somewhere between there, I'm happy. They'll end the season ranked 9th, and win a BCS Bowl.

Well Ohio State lost 5 players for a while, had their head coach forced out (relatively late in the offseason), and most of all don't have a QB after Pryor left (again, late in the offseason). Can't say I blame them if they don't like Ohio State all that much.
Oh, and Notre Dame should be a Darkhorse favorite. The offense is gonna be better then last year with more consistency, and the D grew by years end, and will only get better. Plus lord knows that they themselves are a BCS power conference, and that an undefeated season would all but assure them a title game berth (not that I'm expecting that, or that it's right/fair, but it's most likely true).

Auburn, either. Lost most of their starters, including SuperCam, and they have to go thru the SEC West. They are fucked on top of fucked

).

lulz, funny you shoukld say that, they were number 18.

and I hope you are right. the world is a better place when ND rocks, and I think they are just one more inept season away from being fairly irrelevant. :(

I agree completely. Auburn has only 7 returning starters which is easily last in the entire country. Them being in the top 25 is only because they are the defending champions.

I didn't see the rankings til after I posted, but I'm glad they are ranked.

I would disagree. Notre Dame won't ever be irrelevant as long as they are their own conference (and are on national TV every week). Plus, this is the first time they really are on the right track. They finished their first season strong (the opposite was happening with prior coaches first year). Their head coach is actually considered a good college head coach (unlike his predecessors). And unlike his predecessor, Kelly actually recruited linemen (both O and D). AND they have 2 QBs who can win college games in Kelly's system, PLUS 2 freshmen QBs who Kelly recruited.

Notre Dame is finally being built the right way, and they should be able to build on their success and become a powerhouse again.
