The Sports Bar

Completely agree ChiHawks. No way it goes to someone else. Lebron is the only guy I could make a case for and it isn't even that close. Rose has moved himself into elite territory.

Did I hear correctly? Manny suddenly retired because of the result of a PED test?

Edit: Just saw your post Trooper. Disappointing.

definitely disappointing. Of course not surprising. He already tested positive 2 years ago (or was it last year, I don't remember). He was also one of the 2003 positives that weren't supposed to be released but some got released anyway along with David Ortiz (not a surprise at all).

Well if Manny had any chance at Cooperstown (which he probably didn't after his 2009 suspension) he can kiss it goodbye now.

The writers almost certainly won't vote him in. Veterans committee is a different story.

Of course the thing is in 15 years, who knows how anyone will look at the steroid era. They might finally come to their senses, and actually admit that just because the guy did roids doesn't mean he shouldn't get in the Hall.

Manny Ramirez, even with the 3 positive tests (03, 09, 11) still was maybe the greatest right handed hitter of this generation. He belongs.

No, he doesn't. He cheated the game and doesn't deserve a chance for being caught 3 different times.

Hell, if they still won't let in the alltime hit king because of gambling they sure as hell shouldn't put in a 3 time offender.

100% agree. I'm hoping that guys like Palmeiro can remian on the ballot long enough so the bitter taste of the steroid era can blow over and eventually they will get in. Manny actually has twenty years since he won't even be eligible for five. I think people will have lightened up by then. The voters will probably get their ego stroke by "punishing" these guys and not vote them in for several years but I hope they eventually get in.

Correction. It was not cheating until punishable tests were in place. He wasn't cheating, he was artificially enhancing his strength.

When did I say Rose doesn't belong? And Rose will get in the hall. They will lift he ban and put him in posthumously.

He got caught in 09 and 11 and was suspended in 09 and would be now if he didn't retire.

And what you're saying is a rose colored way of cheating. He did steroids, got caught multiple times, and doesn't deserve an honor like the HOF.

I was giving you an example of a guy who's more deserving then Manny who is ineligible for something that didn't affect his play during the game at all.

And a posthumous induction would be bullshit. Put him in and let him give a speech.

If you do any type of performance enhancing drug to get to the top of your game, you have no sympathy of mine when you aren't elected into the HOF. You know what you're putting into your body and people's feelings on them, and if you try to cheat to get to the top you really aren't the best.

I'm of the opposite mentality about steroids. All of those guys should get in---McGuire, Bonds, Manny, etc. Steroids make you stronger, they don't teach you how to hit a baseball. People have been cheating since the beginning of baseball and they always will, one way or another. At the end of the day though, the stats are still the stats.

As for Manny, fuck him. I lost my respect for him in 2008. Ungrateful, selfish egomaniac.

I could just be reading it wrong. Are you implying Pujols as a steroid user?

No. What I meant was if you were to include guys that have been caught cheating, Sosa is another pitcher in that category.

And right now Pujols and Man-Ram might be on the same level, but Pujols is better at this period of his career then Ramirez was and will go down as a better hitter, possibly a top 5 all time.

Even I have to say Sosa is not even close to being as good a hitter as Manny or Pujols. Home runs sure, but overall hitter? No way.
