Take A-Rod. He's winning the MVP this year.

I didn't get A-Rod but I did take Jeter. His leadership and experience don't mean anything in fantasy so I need him to get his average back up to .300, score some runs, and steal some bases. He may be a bit past his prime but I think he's still a great option as SS after first rounders Hanley Ramirez and Troy Tulowitzki were off the board.

Welp, PITT's done it to me again. I mean it's becoming extremely hard to have any confidence in this team come tournament time. What Nassir Robinson was thinking, I'll never know. Though, to be fair, PITT should've never been in a position to win that game. Plus, if a 78% free throw shooter can't make a game winning free throw, you don't deserve it either. Damn...will be rooting for Ohio St. and Kansas, so I can at least win some coinage.

Jeter is gonna rebound. He had a bad year last year, it happens to everyone. He's not done yet at the plate. Yes, his defense slipped a bit, but even then he's still a serviceable Shortstop. He's made some adjustments at the plate this offseason, and the possible move back to the 2 hole will help even more with the average and with the RBI (his steal total will go down, however, because he won't run with Tex and MVP Candidate A-Rod at bat).

Giggles.

Edit: Hey Trooper, I'll make a bet with you.
No need.

I understand people being shocked, but the guy is healthy finally, and he's still the most talented player in all the American League. He's healthy, hungry, and in the best shape he's been in in years. He'll be a candidate. Winning the award is obviously dependent on the voters, but he's gonna have a big year.

So you don't want to make a bet? If you're so confident I don't see why not. It's just a name change bet. Eh fuck it, Boston's gonna win the East anyway if they stay healthy.

A healthy A-Rod is definitely the best hitter in the league, so it's not that far fetch to pick him to win MVP.

His health is always something to worry about, though.

Because the bet is so extremely 1 sided.

I win if A-Rod wins the MVP. If anyone else wins the MVP you win. How's that a fair bet?

Exactly. People act like he's a terrible hitter, which is stupid.

Bit he's healthy now. He is finally 100% after the hip surgery (and other injuries from a few years ago). Hence why he's primed for a huge year. Can he get injured this year? Of course, just like any other ballplayer can get injured this year.

Another thing to consider now that he's healthy. I wouldn't be surprised if his defense gets back to near his 3rd base prime of 05-08, where he could have and should have won Gold Gloves, bu didn't thanks to Adrian Beltre and Eric Chavez (who ironically now is A-Rods backup).

Make a bet thats relative to the odds. Or if A-Rod finishes in the top 3 in MVP voting, or something along those lines.

Great hitter. Anyone whose above .300 in the, what, 16 seasons he's played is a fantastic hitter? Factor in over 600 home runs, and I can't see an argument otherwise. Maybe his bat speed has slowed, slightly, but in my mind, thats only been due to the injuries he's had to deal with the past few years. If he's healthy and stays that way, which is a moderate if, he certainly could win the MVP.

At least hear him out on the bet. You can always say no.

Tear. Fine, I'll bet you this. Yankees won't win the division. Red Sox will. Neither win the division, bet is over. How about that Mr. One Sided?

Well, if they could play defense for once on a last second shot, they wouldn't have needed the foul shots from Gilbert Brown to win the game. Dating back to Scottie Reynolds 3 years ago, they haven't been able to make a defensive stop with the clock running down in a big situation for years. Whether it be having Gary friggin McGhee guarding Kemba Walker in the Big East Tournament or Brown not being able to guard D.J. Brown of St Johns earlier in the year, Pitt chokes in big game situations. And I think it was Brown following his shot in the Butler game where he fouled Matt Howard, which was incredibly stupid. The kid played the game of his career yet missed a free throw and took one of the dumbest fouls Ive ever seen. Like you said, its hard to have any faith in Pitt around this time of year. I dont care what they do in the Big East in the regular season or the tournament, the NCAA tournament is a different animal Pitt has had minimal success in with regards to their seeding.

I agree. My problem was Megatron saying that he's not a candidate. Is he the A-1 Prime candidate for the award? Maybe not coming into the season, but would anyone really be surprised if he went 45 Homers and 140 RBI (numbers that would all but guarantee the MVP)? I sure as hell wouldn't be.

Again, both of those basically give me too big a chance of losing without much chance for winning. If he were to say "I bet so and so wins" and I say "I bet A-Rod wins," I'd consider it, but right now it's A-Rod vs. the Field, which no one in their right mind would take.

At least hear him out on the bet. You can always say no.
I am hearing him out. His original bet was A-Rod vs. the field. No way in hell do I take that, especially with even odds. There isn't an athlete in all of sports I'd take over the field (including Tiger Woods in his prime).

What's the bet? That's something I'd consider.

And you want to bitch about 1-sided bets? Fine. You take Mark Buehrle for the AL Cy Young, I'll take the rest of the American League.

There needs to be some sort of wager on this.

And no, A-Rod isn't the best hitter anymore. Joe Mauer is the best hitter for average, and Cabrera is the best mix of power and average. And no, it's not me being a Tigers fan for saying that. Many people have said he is the AL's version of Pujols, and he's not much far behind him as a hitter.

If this is the A-Rod of 03, yeah. But 8 years later? no.

EDIT: He didn't say Buerhle would win the Cy Young. You said A-Rod would be the MVP.

It's simple. Those are the terms. Now if he wins, I'll change my name to "I Love NY Dick". I would hate it because I hate New York. If I win, he has to change his name to "New York Teams Suck Dick"

I'm fine with the bet, although the name-changes can use some work.

And all I was using is an example of how taking a 1-sided bet like that is stupid. I never said A-Rod winning is a foregone conclusion. I said A-Rod will be a candidate for the award, which he has proven that when healthy, he's a perennial candidate for the award. He's healthy, so as such he's a candidate.

It was definately Robinson that fouled Howard. Why they were in a zone defense for almost the entirety of the first half, while Butler hit 3 after 3 after 3 is another part of the game that sticks in my craw. Oh well, I'm not gonna let this loss ruin the rest of my week as I have in years past.

As long as yours says that New York teams suck then I'm all for it.

That bugged me as well. Shelvin Mack had i think 6 in the first half alone, yet they failed to even switch on ball rotation, which is a must if youre playing zone. They made adjustments in the second half, but the thing that gets me is the consistent inability year after year to play defense in a one-play situation. Im sorry, but if youre billed as being a great defensive team, which Pitt is, you have to be able to make stops. Of course, Brown is a player that should have made both free throws. It had me upset Saturday night but I got over it after that.

Since we're all guys and we like to discuss women, who are your top three attractive ESPN personalities?

1. Suzy Kolber
2. Erin Andrews
3. Rachel Nichols

If this was the Nichols of five years ago, she'd be #1.

Some interesting threads posted lately. I think the one posted by ITurnGirlsGay could be a fun debate with. I'm trying my best to stir up conversation in these threads, someone should join me, since its really the only nonspam section I post in...

My top 3 would be the same 3 only move Erin Andrews & Rachel Nichols each up one spot and drop Suzy Kolber down to 3

I agree with Andrews and Nichols at 2 and 3. My number one would be Jenn Brown. For those not familiar with Miss Brown, just click the spoiler.
