The Sports Bar

Why does it seem like you always think it's the world vs. the Jets? It's quite annoying.
Maybe because in this instance it WAS the world against the Jets. Everyone was shitting all over the entire organization for the 1 guy doing something wrong (indefensible as it was). Here was a case where nobody gave a shit about this (it too a week to be reported, it's already yesterdays news, and no one is in an uproar over it demanding the guy get removed from the league, like they were last week). That's called a double standard.

I love how you always attack me and others just because we disagree about certain things. I've told you before, you seemed like an allright dude, we just have different philosophies when it comes to football. More and more though I think I spoke too soon. If your definition of failing is making an obvious statement that the decision to run the ball out of the shotgun formation in that situation was the wrong one, then yes, I failed miserably. That was a DUMB football play. PERIOD.
So because we have different beliefs, I'm wrong. OK. You want to throw a hail mary from your own 2, go right a-fucking-head. You wanna go under center and let the Jets pile 9 guys in the box and run up the middle, go right ahead. It won't make a lick of difference, because the problem wasn't the play-call, it was the lack of execution. Again, the call wouldn't have been such a failure if the players did what they were supposed to do.

And to say it was obviously wrong isn't right either. It didn't work because the Jets player made a great play and the Steeler O-Line executed very poorly. That doesn't make it a bad call. If that play goes for 8 yards what do you say? You'd probably applaud the players. You're unfairly criticizing a winning Offensive Coordinator because 1 play didn't work. Shit, nobody bats 1000, even the Pats had a few bad offensive plays in the 45-3 game. Nobody shit all over the Pats O-Coordinator though, because they aren't fucking stupid.

Not sure how I feel about Favre starting. I still think he gives us our best chance at winning, but I was looking forward to seeing what Webb could do with the reigns. Although there will be no Adrian Peterson tonight, so a lot of pressure on Favre and the offense to get it done. I wouldn't be surprised to see some trick plays thrown in to get Webb some PT.

See that's the thing though, I wouldn't have thought it was the right call even if Moore had gone 90 some yd's for the TD. You need to get your QB some breathing room in that situation and that play call was the absolute worst one in the playbook to accomplish that. Also, I've not been a fan of Arians for quite some time. We've found ways to win in spite of his play calling. One of the main reasons is because we have a QB that finds ways to win games. If Arians is the offensive mastermind you seem to think he is, why did they pull him aside after last year and make him commit to running the ball more often, or lose his job? They must've seen something too, right?

1. Yeah, they run 97 Yards for a TD, and you aren't saying "WAAAAH WAAAAAH WAAAAAH WHAT A BAD PLAY CALL! FIRE ARIANS!" You're saying "YEAH YEAH! FUCK YEAH, MOORE! FUCK THE JETS!" Or something to that extent. To even say otherwise is bull. Nobody complains when things go right, even Steeler fans.
2. Again, they spread out the D and ran the ball. If the line can block 1 guy, it goes well. They can't block that one guy. You can't complain about the coordinator when 2 linemen can't block 1 guy.
3. I never said he's a mastermind. What I said is that to blame him for this loss, or to say he sucks and needs to be fired, or he doesn't consistently win is bullshit, since he won a Super Bowl, has 3 playoff appearances (1 of which is this season, mind you), and led the offense to one of the most productive days against this team.
4. They threw a lot because Roethlisberger >>>>>>>>>> The 3 Running Backs, combined. I hate Big Ben, but he's a top 5 QB. Can't say that about the running backs (they aren't even top 10).

I think a certain former Head Coach current ESPN analyst can explain how you should feel about it.

If you think Favre gives you the best chance to win, then you go with Favre, because

You play to win the game.

Why do I even bother? I didn't like the play call. Wouldn't have regardless of the outcome. I'm allowed to have that opinion and you are allowed your's. Never said you weren't, but to there were so many other plays that could've/should've been called there it's ridiculous. Taylor made a great play. Honestly, if anyone was going to make it, I'm glad is was a local boy, but it doesn't negate the fact that he shouldn't have had the oppurtunity.

It wasn't reported as quickly as it was because the Panthers play wasn't in as good of view as the Jets play was. They had to use coaches cameras to catch it. Alosi's play was caught by TV cameras. And the NFL gave a shit about it, they gave him a $15,000 fine. It's not as much as Alosi, but Alosi not only tripped the guy, but hurt him (temporarily) as well, and tried to form a wall to stop the gunner. I'd say what Alosi's was worse, because a trip like that can blow a guys ACL out and that's a career changing play. Both fines were deserved, and you're just trying to play the victim card for the Jets.

1. You're right, it took a while to come out because of that. But once it came out, it was a quick aside, not a week of constant ridicule of the entire organization. Where was the ESPN outrage, where was the demanding the guy was banned from the NFL? Where's the wanting the Panthers to get punished by the league? Nowhere.
2. Did you watch the video? Glazer said the NFL officials said the Panther guys was worse, because it was clearly much more deliberate.
3. The Panther gut got less of a fine for a more egregious offense (he is shown on film walking to he sideline, and elbowed the guy in the head). No, moving a knee an inch or 2 is much worse then a shot to the head.
4. $15,000 to an NFL player making the minimum (or whatever the guy makes) is a pittance compared to $25,000 and a suspension without pay to a lower-tier coach, for a lesser offense.
5. Both guys accomplished the same result, knocking the player out of the play. One guy got a cramp or whatever, and came back. I don't know what happened to the other guy, because I didn't watch every play of that game.

I see where you're coming from Storm, but you have to understand the Jets put this on themselves. Or, more specifically, Rex Ryan did. All that talk that he and his team do has made them enemy number 1. And actions like that seem like they are part of how the Jets are. Was he the first to trip someone, or the only one? No. But that's what happens when you ask for all this attention with your mouth, as Ryan has.

Oh come on, it's not the World vs. the Jets.

I was really expecting some white text here.

I need your opinion guys. I'm thinking of starting a "Play of the blank" thread where we discuss and choose the best play of the blank. The blank is my problem though. Should I make it "Play of the Day", or "Play of the Week"?

So was I, but alas, there wasn't any.

It's gotta be week. Day will be too many ehh plays, not to mention a shit-ton of work for you, and the constant change will lead to less discussion.

Play of the week would lead to discussion, Play fo the Day wouldn't. Why do you think most thread series don't update every day?

Ok. Week it is. The next question is when should I start it? In other words, what should we be considering as the end of the week?
I would go with something like Wednesday. It encompasses the entire NFL week prior (Thursday-Monday), and football isn't so fresh on peoples mind (2 days out from last game), skewing opinions in its favor. This will give Basketball/Hockey a better chance to get a fair shake. Maybe during Baseball season it could change to Monday, so as to include 2 complete series (for the most part).

I'm going to be that guy, and I hope he doesn't take it personally, but I love how Da Bears proved Big Sexy wrong. Feels grand. Now if they can do something in the playoffs is a different story, and we will find out next month. So jacked. Sexy, don't take it personally.

They did win the division which I didn't think they would, however, I also didn't expect Aaron Rodgers to get injured so that was a huge factor in it. With a healthy Aaron Rodgers I still say the Pack would have won the division. I still think the team is overrated and is lucky to be where they're at. I'll be surprised if they win a playoff game.
