The Sports Bar

I love you CH but I don't think the Cubs are the most cursed franchise in professional sports. It's the Clippers. 1-12 they are. Just can't catch a break.

Honestly not trying to sound like a dick or anything, but did I say they are? I can't remember if I did.

I'm not a Cubs fan. White Sox baby!

I root for the Clippers unless they play the Bulls, but I definitely agree they are in need of some good fortunes.

See the Twins are my biggest rival and I keep an eye on them, but if they make the playoffs over the Sox I'll root for them due to division, and because I love the way they play. If only they would fucking win in the playoffs!

I do the same. Especially in college athletics, anything that makes the division/conference look better. The Cubbies will never get a cheer from me though, and after this season neither will the Reds. At least with their current roster.

Yeah I'll never root for the Cubs or any division rival in hockey, basketball, or football. Only college football, basketball, and the MLB.

You can thank Blues ownership for getting rid of him. Okay, off to bed with me. I've got to be downtown by 9 tomorrow. Next Saturday I have a bar crawl though. Explanations when I wake up if needed.

Hey look, I'm not the only person in the universe who's not a fan of people attempting to kill each other on the football field.

NFLLabor.ocom article linked above said:
Longtime NFL writer Ron Borges discusses the importance of proper tackling techniques in the Nov. 21 issue of Pro Football Weekly.

“Ever since the crackdown on illegal, unnecessary hits and excessively dangerous head shots in the NFL, there has been much hand-wringing in many corners about how the sport is being neutered,” Borges writes. “This is nonsense.”

“What is enlightening is to examine video from the 1960s, 1970s and 1980s, a time when pro football began its ascendency to the high place it now holds in American culture. What you will find may be surprising,” continues Borges, who viewed NFL Films programming featuring game action from those decades.

“What I was struck by was the fact very few ball carriers or receivers were being struck in the head in those days,” he adds. “Why? Because the tacklers were actually tackling. They were hitting with their shoulder, wrapping their arms around the ball carrier and fiercely taking him down. They were doing it with more than enough violence to impress anyone, but not with helmet shots to the cranium.”

“Whether this is an issue of lost technique, poor (or changing) coaching or both,” Borges concludes, “today’s defenders do not tackle the way the game originally intended.”

Can the Lions just forfeit their last 6 games and get over with the season? It's clear they've given up and are just frustrating to watch. Not many positives to say about them. Doesn't help b/c Stafford's hurt, but once one bad thing happens, the whole world comes crashing down on them.

At least the Patriots give me something to look forward to. A franchise the Lions should mould themselves after.

You are 100% wrong. This is a team that is vastly improved, although their record doesn't show it, and they are doing it with a back up qb. The team is playing hard every single week and are rarely getting beaten soundly. There is zero evidence of this team "giving up." The officials didn't exactly help them out today with 2 bull shit horse collar penalties that led to 11 extra Dallas points.

No, they continuously beat themselves. That's what BAD teams do. Up 12-7, and it looks like a punt in the 5, and what do they do? Allow a 97 yarder for TD. Then two plays later fumble, and Dallas capitalizes. Blaming the officials for things that are controllable isn't right. Everyone gets bad calls. The Lions just don't react to them positively. At all.

Yeah, they've improved. From 'horrible' to 'bad'. Let's all give them a round of applause. They've gone from being the worst team 2 years ago to the 2nd worst last year, this year it looks like they might be the #3 worst team (behind Carolina + Cincy). Woo fucking hoo.

You already admitted to not even watching the game after the punt return td so you have no room to comment on the ending of the game and how they played and reacted to the bad calls. The Lions actually responded very nicely to the punt return with a quick answer.

Who the fuck said they were a good team right now? You said they have given up and that is 100% false. They are a rebuilding team that is missing their franchise qb. How many wins do you expect?

Would you rather them trying to be 0-16 again?

If it kills the league then that's just sad. Not that the league is hurt but that people care that much about hits to the head that could seriously injure these people for the rest of their lives.
OK, maybe it's the fact that I had a pitcher of beer about 4 hours ago, but I do not understand the point you are making with this. Are you agreeing that hits to the head are bad, are you glad people care about it, or are you pro-headhunting and ripping me? lol I'm confused.

Yeah that came out weird.

I'd be bothered if so many people stopped watching because of less violence/injuries. That would be sad. As in the people watch because it's violent and leave when the players' safety is protected.
