The Rock's Best Match Ever!!

Ruthless-RKO

F*ck Friends, Rather die wiv ma AK!
One of the most popular wrestlers in Pro Wrestling History, Most credit goes to his interviews and promos...

He was definately the great one and The Most Electrifying Man in Sports Entertainment...But do you remember any of his matches??

Of course we do, I think he has had some good matches in his wrestling career which spanned just less than 10 years...

What would you say was his greatest match ever??

I have to pick the Iron Man match vs. Triple H at Judgement Day 2000...The 2 best at the time and arguably greatest performers for the WWE went head to head in an hour long iron man match, maybe it wasn't as good as HBK/Bret but people have their own opinions...but this match was seirously what I would call a really good iron man match...Both The Rock and HHH made this match entertaining and with all the run ins and Takers return it was quite a good ending as well in my book...

Honourable Mention
vs. Stone Cold Steve Austin At Wrestlemania X-7

vs. Kurt Angle At No Way Out 2001

vs. Hulk Hogan At Wrestlemania X-8

vs. Stone Cold Steve Austin At Wrestlemania X-9

vs. Mankind At Royal Rumble 1999

vs. Triple H At Summer Slam 1998

Your opinions?

I'm going with one that's not on your list. My favorite Rock match was vs. Chris Jericho at No Mercy 2001. There was something about that match that I really liked. Matches in the attitude era were all so fast paced and had a lot more brawling. This seemed like a throwback to the early or mid 90's. I think that was my favorite match of 2001.

The Iron Man Match is cool but I'd have to say its a 4 way tie(yea I know 4 way is a bit outrageous) between Backlash '00 vs. HHH, Fully Loaded '00 vs. Chris Benoit, No Way Out '01 vs. Kurt Angle and WM X-7 vs. Stone Cold. The common thread in all of those matches were intensity and emotion and they were botch free. Backlash '00 was the best in the feud between Rock and the Game. Back and forth action with the return of Austin for 1 nite then the Rock landing the peoples elbow with 20k fans going insane was a great finish to a great match. Fully Loaded '00 was a great match between he and Benoit that no one ever really speaks about. Great action told a great story with the Rock getting the not so decisive victory. No Way Out '01 was a CLASSIC period! Only thing wrong with that match was Earl Hebner screwing up the count. Finally, Rock vs. Austin 2 was THE BEST WM MAIN EVENT OF ALL TIME.

I'll go with Wrestlemania 17 vs Austin. It was definitely one of his greatest in ring performances. It was a face pace match with a lot of near falls with both of them hitting their finishers many times.

All three of their Wrestlemania matches were classics IMO. The ending with Austin joining with Vince is was what set it apart from the other two.

Wrestlemania 18 vs Hogan was close, but not for the wrestling as much as it was for the excitement of Icon vs Icon. The crowd was way into that match, and it just had that big match feel to it.

In terms of entertainment value, I would probably have to go with The Rock's series of matches with Stone Cold Steve Austin. Whenever the two of them went at it, the crowd was always into it and exploded at the appropriate times. Plus, the matches were almost always solid. Their WrestleMania matches are the making of legends and their other wrestling matches were solid as well. The most famous match was their WrestleMania X-Seven match where Austin did the heel turn. So, in terms of entertainment and great build towards the match, I would give the Austin/Rock WrestleMania X-Seven match the edge.

As far as in-ring performance and showcasing wrestling ability, I have to agree with The Brain and mention The Rock's match against Chris Jericho at No Mercy 2001. It was a solid wrestling exhibition between the two that didn't rely too much on the usual out of the ring shenanigans that permeated the WWE style from 1997-early 2002. 90% of the match actually took place in the ring, and The Rock more than proved that night that he could put on a good wrestling match.

Honorable Mention:
The Rock/Hogan- WrestleMania X-8- What really needs to be said about this match? The crowd goes wild and a moment in time is created between two legendary competitors.

For me it's a choose between Hogan vs. Rock WM 18 or Rock vs. Austin WM 17. Whenever Austin and Rock had a match together it was classic.

If I have to choose one I have to choose Hogan vs. Rock WM 18. I chose this one because in my opinion it was probably the Rock's most pivotal match in his career. He was already a main eventer and extremely over with the fans but IMO this matched left no question in my mind that the Rock was going in the history books.

They said the moment Hogan slammed Andre was the moment Hogan wrote his name in the history books. IMO that's what happened the moment the Rock pinned Hogan. I know the Rock had several classics before this one but the match with Hogan cemented his legacy.

My favorite match, is probably the Triple Threat Match vs Angle and Taker at Vengeance '02.

I know some people may think the match is overrated because they were just stealing each other's finishers throughout the match. Then of course they did the spots where they all hit their own finishers.

You know what, I don't care. I thought the match was entertaining as hell.

mine would definately be the rock vs mankind at the royal rumble in 09 in an i quite match. the match was amazing and the rock entertained the whole time. i loved both wrestlers and this was one of the first matches i ever watched in the wwe. the is was probably my favorite match of all time.

I really like Hogan V.S. Rock at Wrestlemania. But i also really liked when the rock faced the undertaker at the king of the ring for the title i believe it was in 99

You mean 1999... Its too hard to choose... But for arguments sake, I'll take Austin/Rock at WM 17!

Humm, good choice for a post.

The Rock is well known for his Mic Skills, and has some wrestling abillities, and he can for sure, pull off some great matches.

It's a tough choice when you think about it, but i'm going with the No-DQ match for the WWF Championship at Wrestlemania X-7. That match was so exciting, so much going on, so much expectation... the end was brutal, one of the best WM endings i have ever seen!

But for 2º Place, i would go with The Rock vs Chris Jericho at No Mercy 2001 for the WHC. That was a great, great match, and i was not expecting Jericho to win. For 3º Place, i would choose... No Mercy 2000, Kurt Angle vs The Rock.

Honorable mentions to Rikishi vs The Rock at Survivor Series 2000, Kurt Angle vs The Rock II at No Way Out 2001 and The Rock vs Stone Cold Steve Austin III at Safeco Field, Wrestlemania XIX.

I would go for The Rock vs Mankind at Royal Rumble 1999 in the I Quit match, it was the most brutal thing I have ever seen at that point (this was before I went back and saw Foley v Taker HIAC etc).

The two of them beat the living hell out of each other, with Rock handcuffing Mankinds hands behind his back and then going over the top with chairshots (he did many more than agreed), and dropped a peoples elbow on Foley who had a chair placed over his head. It was insane

Then, when they were climbing up into the crowd, I COULD NOT BELIEVE IT when Mankind fell onto the electrical box, making the arena lights go out, I had no idea at the time that this was rigged to explode in the way it did, it was so shocking to me.

I never get bored of watching this match, it is simply awesome

Backlash 2000 - The Rock v Triple H for the WWF Title

It had been 13 months since The Rock had been WWF Champion. He was now the hottest thing in wrestling but he kept getting screwed out of the title. With Austin's help he finally won the title and blew the roof off the MCI Centre when he won.

WrestleMania 17 - Stone Cold Steve Austin v The Rock for the WWF Title

The two biggest stars EVER, at the biggest and best WrestleMania ever for the WWF title. Plus a huge heel turn from Austin, just a shame this portion of their feud never continued due to The Rock going and making films.

Vengeance 2002 - The Undertaker v Kurt Angle v The Rock for the WWE Undisputed Title

klunderbunker disagress with me, but this is quite possibly the best triple threat match ever. Great wrestling, hot crowd, non-stop action from start to finish.

Honourable mentions

Summerslam 1998 - The Rock v Triple H in a Ladder match for the Intercontinental Title
Royal Rumble 1999 - The Rock v Mankind in an I Quit match for the WWF Title
Judgement Day 2000 - The Rock v Triple H in an Iron Man match for the WWF Title
No Way Out 2001 - The Rock v Kurt Angle for the WWF Title
WrestleMania 18 - The Rock v Hulk Hogan
Summerslam 2002 - The Rock v Brock Lesnar for the WWE Undisputed Title

WM17 - vs Austin. The story, the build up, the fast pace, the 15 or so chairshots, the heel turn...these 2 were on top of their game at this moment.

An incredible match...

The Rock against Austin for Wrestlemania 17 was really fast paced and a special event even though we have seen it before 2 years earlier. I thought the Rock worked really well with Hogan and WM18 considering how limited Hogan was in the ring. Overall though both Austin and The Rock put a hell of a lot of effort into WM17 shaping it up to be one of the most memorable WM matches of all time.
