The Rise.... of Cody Rhodes

Now anyone who knows me, knows I love Cody Rhodes. I think he's underrated, has been looked over too many times, but now would be the best time to push him! He's 28, in the prime of his career and here's how it would work, hope you guys don't mind a bit of a read:

As of today, we currently have Bryan out of action, Evolution feuding with Shield and the Rhodes Brothers teasing a break up with a Cody heel turn. I wanna keep that going. I want Bryan to get stripped of the titles for not being able to defend them and a tournament to be held to crown a new champion. BUT the board of directors have made the order that the only people who can participate are people who have never held a world championship. Among the participants are both the Rhodes brothers and all of the Shield with the final being held at WWE Money in the Bank.

Now as the weeks go by Evolution (FURIOUS that every member of the Shield are in the tournament and none of them are) try to cause them all to lose their matches and get eliminated. Eventually, they manage to cost the matches of Dean Ambrose and Seth Rollins, but can't get the job done for Roman Reigns, losing Batista along the way. Reigns wins in the semi-final and gets put through to the final to the dismay of Evolution. Meanwhile, on the other end of the bracket, it's a semi-final between Cody and his brother. They both have a tremendous match but near the end, Cody gets the upper hand on his brother. With Cody getting the pin, both men get to their feet and Goldust hugs his brother with all the pride in the world...

Then, Cody reluctantly takes his brother's arms and removes them from himself. With a serious face, he tells his brother "We can't do this any more." Goldust completely confused doesn't know what's going on. Cody leaves his brother at the bottom of the ramp and walks up. He stops at the top and turns around, then Triple H and Randy Orton comes out to either side of Cody with the biggest s*** eating grins. Triple H puts his arm around Cody's shoulders and directs him backstage, leaving Goldust by himself, alone.

THE FINAL IS SET! Roman Reigns, takes on Cody Rhodes for the WWE World Heavyweight Championship. Of course this is going to be a clash of Shield and Evolution, but Shield just couldn't do it this time, with Cody winning the championship. In the following weeks of the PPV, Cody becomes more bratty, more aggressive and the superstars back stage are starting to really dislike him.

This would all come together with Daniel Bryan back and ready to challenge for the title he never lost at WWE Battleground. But this time... Cody loses. Bryan reclaims the title and Evolution leave Cody behind "We have no use for you any more, without the title, you're nothing Cody." This isn't a face turn but makes Cody bitter and HATE Daniel Bryan for making his world come down (similar to Harry Osbourne in The Amazing Spider-Man 2 if you've seen it). Cody will go on to attack Bryan and do everything he can to win back the title.

All of this I feel would be a great way to spark a rivalry between Cody and Daniel that could be big and can be this generations Cena and Orton story.

Yeah, cause that's what the WWE needs right now. A bunch of wrestlers who aren't over competing for a title which has lost its legitimacy. I agree Rhodes has great potential but, at present, no way is he a serious contender. You don't go from teaming with Goldust on house shows in Wyoming to headlining the company within the space of a month.

You have cody winning the title in a month and joining evolution. Then the next month loses and gets thrown out of evolution. Sounds like the ryback and paul heyman partnership to me.

As much as I wouldn't mind seeing Cody challenge for the title at some point, this is way too soon. What about guys like Kofi who haven't challenged for the title at all? Kofi's been around pretty much as long as Cody has. If you wanna build him up, fine. Just make sure he's ready for it. And give it more time than a month or two.

Points for coming up with a decently thought out story, but Cody doesn't have anywhere near the momentum to make this believable. He's done a big pile of nothing since losing the tag belts but now he's suddenly part of Evolution AND world champion? 2011 Intercontinental Champion Cody Rhodes could pull this off, but not the 2014 damaged goods version.

They've been teasing his heel turn for some time, so once that finally happens he needs to be built up again, maybe have another run with a midcard belt, before he has any business even being mentioned in the world title conversation - and that's coming from a fellow Cody Rhodes fan.
