The Place of Unlearning

What exactly constitutes fast food? Does it have to have a drive-thru, or is it any and every chain restaurant, including Chinese and pizza joints?

You raise an interesting point. In my earliest ventures into professional cooking, I worked at an O'Charley's. If you don't have one of these nearby and aren't familiar, it's one of your typical family-oriented, unimaginative, sit-down restaurants in the style of TGI Fridays, Bennigans, etc.

I'd go so far as to call that fast food. The quality was low, the food had very little in the way of personality, and it basically represented eating because if you don't you'll die, as opposed to eating for the enjoyment of the experience.

Granted, I can be a bit of a food snob sometimes but I'll say this for your typical drive-thru fast food joints... they typically don't try to be something they're not. They're not putting themselves across as classy joints. I respect that a hell of a lot more than I do a place like O'Charley's that tries to put forth the illusion of quality to fool the ignorant masses.

When I think of "fast food" I think of the term in the literal sense. They don't need to have a drive through (Hell Checkers doesn't even have an indoors 94% of the time)

If you can order your food and have it within 5 minutes... and normally less... that's fast food to me...

And I've never had white castle aside from buying the burgers out of the frozen aisle at the grocery store so I can't really comment. And there is a Bob Evans about 20 minutes from me but there is an IHOP about 5, and I will take pancakes, hashbrowns and steak any day for breakfast :)

Murfish, about to read "Their Eyes Were Watching God" for class, have you read it? Thoughts?

You poor bastard, that book is absolute garbage. An utter waste of time, I wanted to slap my English teacher for assigning us that book in high school. Christ I was reading Thoreau in 8th grade and now you want me to read this drivel? Public schools...

But yeah. Terrible. Absolutely terrible. Read something by Frederick Douglass instead.

Right now I'm waiting to see if someone gets the math funniness of my quote in that thread and deciding between dressing up as either Max(Where the Wild Things Are), Jake Gittes(Chinatown), or Roman Polanski for Halloween.

Handpicked by the teacher, new AP ciriculum and all that jazz. Whatever, sparknotes may be used.

1. I didn't get it.
2. Polanski.

1. Don't over think it. Read the first part and try to logically figure out what their looking for. This legitimately happened in my class today.
2. That's the way I'm leaning.

1. I don't even know what subject it is, but obviously you want a number over 1. I'm guessing you were B.
2. Bring a little girl with you.

I'm thinking about dressing up real nice, making my hair grey, and having a name tag that says 'Hello little girl, my name is ROMAN POLANSKI!"
