The Phoenix Coyotes Saga Continued

Mr. TM

Throwing a tantrum
And it has not involved Jim Basille yet.

Originally the Phoenix Coyotes, formerly the Winnipeg Jets, were all out of money. The team that recently reached 100 points in the season, and will probably have a great shot at dominating in the playoffs will soon be homeless. The Jobing.com Arena's lease agreement with the team is set to expire. If the Glendale arena will not bring back the broke hockey franchise, relocation, something Gary Bettman said he is firmly against, could happen.

Sound familar? The same situation happened when the American General Manager said he would not allow Jim Basille, the owner of Blackberry Smartphones to move the team to his hometown of Hamilton, where he planned to build an arena. After that fell through, with some pressure I am sure by the Toronto Maple Leafs, he than tried to move the team to Winnipeg. Again, he was denied.

Now with this latest Saga, there is rumours, denied by the NHL of course, that they have lined up a potential buyer for the NHL team. Basille is not the man the NHL is going to. David Thomson, Canada's richest person is in talks. It is a fucking shame that the league will not give the team to Basille, instead of shopping it to another man who might do a good job, but doesn't have the interest.

The off ice issues involving the Coyotes are a mess. The NHL would of done anything to keep Balsille away from an NHL franchise and in doing that are now at a crossroads. The team needs an arena to play hockey and low and behold, they may not have one next year. So what other option do you have Bettman, but to sell to another owner and relocate. Well, well, well it looks like you have to go through another process like the one with Balsille in order to find an owner. The personal dislike of Balsille got in the way of the NHL making a smart business move and giving control to Balsille, so now they have to find someone who is going to have to do exactly what Balsille wanted to do in the first place, move away from Phoenix. As long as that person isn't Balsille, Bettman is happy to find a owner. Oh yeah and as long as the new owner is moving to an American city.
