The Miz and Palmer Cannon

Occasional Pre-Show
Don't know if anybody remembers but when the Miz made his debut on Smackdown he was coming to the ring to interrupt JBL when Palmer Cannon (douchebag network executive character) barred him from the arena. Originally the Miz was supposed to be in a feud with Cannon but Cannon quit a few days later, the feud was abandoned and the Miz shot to the immense heights of being the 'host' of Smackdown as well as MC'ing the Diva Search.

I was ready for the Miz to debut, the WWE had hyped it quite well and it seemed like he would have a decent impact. When nothing materialised from it everyone sort of forgot about the Miz and was then just bored with his hosting antics. Bottom line was the WWE fucked it up. I think if he had the feud with Cannon, the Miz would have gotten over as a face and would perhaps have joined the midcard and been on a much different career path today.

Does anyone else agree? Where do you think the Miz would have been today had Palmer Cannon not quit?

I'm not sure where he'd be. Because Palmer Cannon wasn't that over. I think the biggest mark he left on the WWE was naming Eddie Guerrero as a number one contender after Theodore Long was clearly describing Rey Mysterio.

Infact, I think I remember reading posts on wrestling websites about little ploys just to give him heat- like playing Taker's music then cutting it short quickly and start filming again with Palmer Cannon coming out. I can't give any links to this because this was ages back haha.

Hmm. Its tough to say where Miz would be. He'd clearly be a face in that angle. Miz working as a face after MTV and being took seriously?.. not sure if it would work. So I think he may have ended up (after getting some "X-pac heat" during his matches despite being a face) becoming an over-the-top reality gimmick as a heel. Kind of like what happened with Santino- a face you couldn't really like so they turned him into a comedy heel that was an over the top stereotype.

So I reckon he'd have been some guy maybe talking about reality TV shows in segments, god forbid not trying to sell TV's to wrestlers (but this is WWE, so who knows), and then shortly being released thereafter.

Palmer Cannon, as a huge Miz fan, I thank you. Thanks for leaving.

Kind of a moot point at this moment. as it stands, Miz is already in the mid card, at least. Plus, he's in a feud with John Cena. Now, unless we're in Bizzaro World, and to the best of my knowledge, we are not, John is greater than Palmer Cannon. How much greater? Maybe this will help you out.

John Cena > Palmer Cannon

Yes.... that is a crapload of greater than. Yeah, The Miz would have had a decent feud, but it would die, and I think he's pretty much be in the same area he is now, if not a little worse.

Haha, yeah your demonstration certainly did help. Maybe I wasn't clear. I didn't mean that a feud with Palmer Cannon would have been the kickstart of a main event career, just that it would have changed the way his career panned out. After all, he was trying to interfere with JBL, who if I'm not mistaken was US champion at the time - a pretty big deal for a debuting superstar. So Miz goes through Cannon, onto JBL and onto better things than hosting Smackdown.

Maybe you're right and it wouldn't have been that big a deal but I still think it had a negative effect on his career that he's, only recently, started to recover. Do you think he'd be in the same place now if he was pushed from the very start of his career?

Also, on a side note, I wouldn't really call it a feud with John Cena, as Cena is feuding with the Big Show at the moment, the Miz is like that little kid who watches the two big kids fight and throws stones into the mix at random intervals.

I predict he would have been a failed face and in TNA now. His gimmick and character and just general personality do not fit with a face and he works perfectly as a heel. I am so glad that they got rid of Palmer Cannon, so now we can properly enjoy The Miz.
