The Match That Should Have Been A Classic

Orton V HHH Wrestlemania XXV: The feud was awsome the way Orton worked his way through the McMahons then to HHH it had hatred emotion everything but the match was dull as hell. I mean give it a Last Man Standing No DQ HIAC anything to give the match some heat.

Hulk Hogan vs. The Rock.

I think it was WM18 and neither man was a full-time employee of WWE anymore but the build-up to the match was incredible. Any of the rare appearances by Hogan were hyped to the hilt, and the fact he was facing The Rock, who was already into his movie career, created tons of excitement. Rock's promos leading to the match were up to his high standards, and even Hogan's usual promos (vitamins, prayers, vegetables) seemed to take on fresh meaning because we hadn't seen them in a long time.

The match, however, stunk. Say what you want about Rock's deficiencies in technical wrestling, but his repertoire was always lightning fast. He had always kept your interest in the ring with constant movement and an approach that seemed almost recklessly high in speed.

Against Hogan, however, Rock had to slow his routine to a snail's pace to accommodate Hogan's lack of mobility and it totally destroyed whatever momentum the match might have possessed.

A huge disappointment.

I agree with most of the posts that came before mine. Lesnar/Goldberg, Hart/Austin, and Sting/Hogan could have and should have been HUGE! Even though they WERE and ARE huge in their own rights. But they were ruined to a certain extent. They could have obviously been better.

I'll bring up a WCW one. That fateful night in July of 98 on Nitro. Randomly, Hogan faces Goldberg! LOL... It came out of nowhere! Goldberg whooped Hogan's ass clean and took the WHC away. I can't remember if they ever faced again. But I doubt it.

That could have been a defining match from the era. 2 of the biggest things WCW EVER had was The NWO and Goldberg. They collided in 98 on a Nitro in Atlanta!

Not that it would have been a technical classic. But the implications of the match, who was involved and it being there first time squaring off, could have been hyped like no other and been a MASSIVE draw!

Instead, WCW first brings it up 4 or 5 days before Nitro on Thunder. And did nothing to hype it up. Sure it is an important part of history, Goldberg's first World Title. But in a sense, it came and went!

Bill Lesnar reckons the fued between Brock and Goldberg was wasted. Bill Lesnar knows that they had the best entrances, loo, moveset and mic skills
