That's right. Mr Porn, Ron Jeremy has blasted the rise of the internet and has claimed that it's modern day usage is turning us into idiots. However, this was said at a conference that was bringing the people closer to a new day in technology and with all of the technological advances that have happened in the last decade, I think some small part of me agrees with him. I know that may sound stupid and as I type this into my computer, safe in the assurance that the World Wide Web will deliver it to yours, I am laughing at myself a little. However, I do think it is a concern and it is very real. That is not to say that I whole-heartedly agree with it.
Let me explain my feelings to you and you can give me yours. When I was in the very early stages of High School, I didn't use the Internet a lot. Instead, I buried my head in books and took in the wonderful world of the English language and I enjoyed it. I felt that by reading and doing a lot of maths work, I was developing my brain and giving it a good work out. Now though, it seems as though my brain does very little. I do not read to the extent that I did because everything can be summarised on the Internet and online calculators can do the maths for me. Information is now so easy to come by but knowledge is taking a beating.
That being said, I love the Internet. My world would be completely different if I never had use of it and I don't think I would that half of the information I know, would not exist with me. There is a clear difference between knowledge and information and whilst the Internet has given me so much more information that I would not have gotten otherwise, no knowledge is coming from it.
So how do you feel on the matter? Is the Internet making people more stupid or is it giving us a new way of learning?
