Those of you who watched WWE during the Attitude Era may know these guys some of you may not. Mosh & Thrasher were a tag team who's gimmick was that of a couple of metalheads. I think they were one of the best Tag Teams of the ealy Attitude Era (97-98) They had great matches with The Hardy Boys (before the got big) and KaiEnTai they've also held the WWE and NWA Tag titles as well as tag titles from various indy promotions.

Recently the WWE has been critizing The Headbangers saying they had a horrible Tag Title Reign and that they over stayed there welcome. I personally think this is Bull and any critizism can be laid at the feet if one Vincent Kennedy McMahon and whoever was on Creative at the time. Mosh & Thrasher were just 2 employees and in the end they were just doing what they were told.

Just to show how good they were here's there title history and a couple of their matches so you can judge for yourself.

I was never really a big fan of the Headbangers. They were given the titles early on in their WWE career because they were over with the fans, but as soon as that wore off they basically became jobbers.

I would relate them to a slightly better version of the Highlanders. Both came in and were over with the fans, so they got a little push. As soon as the fans got bored with them, their in-ring work wasn't good enough for them to continue to make an impact. The only difference is that the Headbangers were given a short title reign.

Headbangers were painfully average compared to the tag teams that took over from them two years later (E&C, Hardyz etc). I personally saw them as a comedy gimmick, not destined for much, I never really got the impression that they were really talented and once E&C and Hardyz started to develop, they were really lost in the mix.

Having read KB's IYH reviews, the tag division at this team was almost as bad as it is now. Teams were either past their prime, far too green or had no real talent to begin with and as a result, the titles were almost forgotten and had no significance until the TIT that climaxed at No Mercy 99.

I can't believe this is a thread. I'm ecstatic. I loved these guys, even if they were just jobbing. I have no idea why, I was still a lad when they were "popular". I was furious when WWE Magazine had that issue recapping every title's history, and they had a section of champions who never should've won. Headbangers were one of them. Anyway, I love these guys. Being "Headbangers" added to the aura to the Attitude Era, and if I remember correctly, they each may have had some Hardcore titles under (or as) their belts. They did end up getting comedic, but overall I would say they were underrated and underused, especially since WWE sees them as one of the most undeserving champions of all time. The issue came out around the time Santino won...

As a side note, great promo by Farooq in that first video haha

I know them best as the guys with the funny music from WWF Wrestlemania 2000 for Nintendo 64. Then I saw them at Royal Rumble 2000 and Summerslam 99 and others. They came to the Royal Rumble (I think) wearing comically over-sized fluffy bras

They also inspire a mantra I believe all men should take to heart: Real Men Wear Skirts

You know Milenko, I can usually find a bright side to everyones opinions when it comes to "underrated wrestlers", "favorites of all time", "best mid card guys ever"... stuff like that.

But I gotta' say, I can't find a damn thing to help emphasize your notion that The Headbangers are underrated.

To me, they're kind of like the Carlito's (I know, they're the Colon's) are now - the cream of the crop in a field full of crap.

When you're the only guys with a gimmick that fans like, it's kind of obvious where the belt should reside.

It's like Hulk Hogan wearing the strap - he wasn't an incredible wrestler, but his gimmick was off the charts, so everyone loved him.

That's where The Headbangers reside in my classification - guys with a pretty decent gimmick (at the time, punk rock was booming) but limited ring skills. Once teams like the Dudley Boyz, Edge and Christian and The Hardy Boyz came along, The Headbangers became expendible.

Sorry to debunk your opinion - still like your posting skills though :)

I was never a huge fan of the head bangers however where credit is due I'll give it and they were one of the better teams in that period and over teams, hell not maybe tag teams got a pinfall win over Bulldog/Owen (the big tag team at the time) but the head bangers did and done it on PPV, so for WWE to critize them now is just WWE trying rubbish them, and lets face it a month title run is nothing they really weren't given a chance when you look back at it but the did get some big wins over some big tag teams in that time, and they beat the new age outlaws back in late 98 on the Judgment day PPV so WWE had high hopes for them at some point.

I can honestly say I was a bit of a mark for them as a little kid during the Attitude Era. Their gimmick was great and in the given landscape of the WWE, they were a refreshing team. Their far from usual attire coupled with ridiculous presence made them a fun watch.

On the other hand I always felt Chaz (Mosh) did a lot of the work, and for the most part carried Thrasher

When I see posts like this, it makes me realize how old I'm getting, lol... Don't get me wrong, the Headbangers had a respectable run and put on some entertaining matches. However, I would not say they are one of the most underrated teams ever. I grew up during the era of teams like The British Bulldogs, The Brainbusters, The Hart Foundation, Demolition, The Steiner Brothers, The Road Warriors, The Midnight Express, The Rock 'n' Roll Express, The Road Warriors... you catch my drift, lol... In my opinion, the Headbangers, while respectable, don't hold a candle to any of those teams. They were at the top of a very weak tag team division. I also remember their pacing and execution being sloppy at times. If anything, they remind me a bit of Cryme Tyme. Cryme Tyme gets to the crowd going and can put on an entertaining match, but they'll never be legends in the tag team division.

Overall, good post, but I have to respectfully disagree. :flair:

I wouldn't say there an all-time great team either, but I would however debate that in THERE era they were some what underrated

Even for there era they were not underrated. They had a decent gimmick that the fans liked for a little bit, but after a while it got kind of annoying. When people realized they had little wrestling ability to back it up they became jobbers.

They came around at a time when the tag division was weak, got a one month title reign, and that was pretty much it. The NAO came in and took the division over for a while, then the Hardyz, Dudleyz, and E and C took the division to another level. During that time the Headbangers really did nothing but job.

The Heabangers were a great jobber tag team.. i met 'em once back in 1997, also met Sunny that day... but anyway, i wore a Misfits shirt to the autograph signing and one of them wanted the shirt, can't remember which, might've been Thrasher.. but i gave him the shirt and he wore it out on tv, one of my friends always said that my shirt gave them a curse, because they became huge jobbers after that and then broke up... i think the New Age Outlaws hit 'em in the head with a radio or something... the Headbangers were cool to meet, they just hung out and talked for a while until it was time for them to leave to go to the arena.. they asked some fat guy if he would run across the street in his underwear and grab a pumpkin that was sitting over there, the guy did and got two free tickets to Raw that night :)

I never really warmed up to the gimmick! I found them annoying! But at least that gimmick was better than Beaver Cleavage and I'm sure playboy enjoyed it more than his "Chaz Gets Falsely Accused of Beating His Girlfriend So Every 400+ Pounder on the Roster Hands Him His Ass on a Silver Platter Every Week on Raw" gimmick! The other guy just kind of vanished!

Real men do not in fact wear skirts! Headbangers were one-time champions, everywhere they plied their trade in the ring, other than one three reign career in a nothing federation. They won the lowest rated belt on the roster, won the belt when no-one held it thanks to a run-in by Austin and didn't get another chance to hold the belt when credible tag teams came along.

Not under-rated, just awful

So you're attempting to show me how good a tag team is by showing that they won a bunch of tag titles in various nothing promotions?, Headbangers were absolute shit, they were awful, nothing they did stood out, and they're a tag team that when it's all said and done will be forgotten just like the other 437465 tag teams produce by WWE that failed
