The Guest Host/Star Concept: WWE Has Sunk To An All Time Low

Jack-Hammer

YOU WILL RESPECT MY AUTHORITAH!!!!
On WWE.com, they've announced new guest stars that will make an appearance on Raw. This year, Halloween falls on a Monday and appearing on Raw will be......The Muppets.

Yep...yep you...you read that right. The Muppets are slated to guest star on Raw Halloween Night in order to promote "The Muppets", the first theatrical release for the long running franchise in more than a decade. Here's the statement on WWE.com:

The Muppets come to Raw on Halloween night

"To celebrate their first theatrical release in more than a decade – Disney’s “The Muppets,” opening this Thanksgiving – the Muppets will step into the ring on the Oct. 31 WWE Raw SuperShow to mix it up with the Superstars in Atlanta.

In the new film, “The Muppets,” the crew is on a mission to save the Muppet Theater from demolition. But before that, they’ll have to save themselves from our Superstars!

What will happen when Kermit the Frog meets The Viper? Will the Divas make Miss Piggy flip with jealousy? Will Beaker be confused for Sheamus? On Halloween, it’s time to play the music, it’s time to light the lights, because the Muppets are about to get Raw!"

I'm sorry, there's just no defending this whatsoever. Vince McMahon must really be losing if it he thinks that this is a good idea or that it's going to bring viewers flocking to Raw. I can already picture the stupid segments in my head and it's enough to give anyone nightmares that the goriest, scariest horror film can't even come close to.

Really Jack-Hammer? I whole heartedly disagree with you on this one. The Muppets are a staple of my childhood, I fucking love them. With Monday Night Football seemingly taking me away from Raw for a while, they found a way to get me to tune in on Halloween when my team is playing on MNF.

I fully expect a lot of hate for this move and hell, go right the fuck for it. Whenever the general consensus in the IWC is that something sucks, I tend to go the other way. People take wrestling waaay to seriously. I enjoy comedy, whether it's ridiculously bad or spot on. This is probably going to be both.

The Muppets fucking rule and I can't wait to see what kind of ridiculous shit happens on this episode.

The Muppets are pretty much the biggest guest hosts Raw have ever had. From a business standpoint its a great decision. Kermit The Frog is more recognizable than anybody on the WWE roster.

I'll be watching. Not like Raw isn't very hit and miss anyway.

I don't see the harm. The WWE is an entertainment show before they are a show devoted to half naked men and women trying to beat each other up. I also think if The Muppet Show was still around, no question that John Cena would've already been a guest multiple times.

The WWE is still marketing itself towards families and you can't get more family than the Muppets.. Well, cept for Disney. But I hear Mickey's booking fees are outrageous even for the WWE.

If you knew anything about The Muppets you'd know they certainly were not a straight forward kids show. Many adults loved them too.

I still love Animaniacs, and now that I'm older I get so much stuff I didn't before. That show was laced with so much innuendo it is astounding how it got past the censors.

But then again, why does it matter what the internet people say? We all know those who complain about it will still watch.

It's a lot better than bringing in Pee Wee fuckin Herman, and that was relatively harmless. I love the muppets, so go for it. Maybe for once the humor will actually be funny.

The Muppets will be more entertaining than anything Tna's being doing lately. I think a confrontation between R-Truth and Kermit the frog would be pretty funny.

Throw me on top of the pile of defenders here. We all remember the long lived "guest host" stretch from not too long ago. That included some real stinkers, both as "themselves" or still in a character. This, to me, has at least some potential over snoozefests like Criss fucking Angel (or was that Ty Burna...?). In the very least, I look forward to this more than I ever did any Hornswoggle segement.

It's not going to be Earth shattering, it's not going to set any Raw records, and it's not going to kill the industry dead (still not worse than involving Robo-fucking-cop in an angle). It's a one-shot gimmick in a time when McMahon has openly made clear he'd like to get back into having more corporate backing in the WWE. Who knows, maybe John Cena or something pops up in the movie.

it's kinda funny that the only guy on this board that hates the idea was the guy who started the whole thread to begin with. Having said that, i've got to agree with everybody on this board. The muppets are probably the biggest guest host they ever had on Raw and that's not taking anything away from Hugh Jackman who going to be the guest star tonight.

The muppets is pretty much a stable in kids entertainment, i grew up watching the muppets in the 80's and saw pretty much all their movies even the lame muppets in space. Has far has a business decision is concern, this is a great one because your going to get more kids watching and you will get older fans of The muppets watching Raw just to see them interact with the WWE superstars. So it's a win-win for them.

It can't be that bad. Remember its for the money. Vince is doing what he does best. They'll make it work. But things like this let you know that the wwe is still relevant to hollywoods biggest businessmen. I feel wwe is gonna pull all the stops to make themselves as relevant to the non-wrestling fan community before the network comes out. It should be fun....

The Muppet's are the only guest host that I'm looking forward to seeing on Raw.

While I'm sure they will have more of a focus than past hosts, I don't see them playing a HUGE part of the show and will most likely be used for small skits and the quick laugh.

The interaction between Muppet's & wrestlers is will make the show and I look forward to Miss Piggy hitting on Dolph Ziggler, the old heckler's mocking Miz & R-Truth, and Gonzo & Rizzo doing commentary for a Diva's match.

The Muppet's hosting Raw won't mean anything serious, but it should make for a fun Raw.

This is one of the few times Jack-Hammer I gotta disagree with you.

The Muppets are awesome and the Muppet Show was voted one of the greatest shows of all time. They are coming out with a movie that's gonna get a lot of buzz and publicity and frankly these are the biggest stars in RAW Guest Host history. The Muppet's have such a diverse cast of characters that this could be a very entertaining raw on so many levels. I'll admit I am a fanboy of the muppet's but nonetheless from a business standpoint this is an excellent decision.

Not only that it will be on Halloween night. WWE always has a thing about doing thanksgiving theme Smackdown's or Christmas themed RAW's and the Muppet's fit right into that Halloween theme, Miss Piggy and Vickie getting into it would be downright awesome to watch.

Sure it will be a very light hearted episode of RAW but I bet it will be more entertaining than most RAW's of the last while. Although I always have RAW on the TV every Monday night (unless there is a good Football game on) I'm often not watching it because a good chunk of it is boring every week. Some guest host's were fun as hell to watch on screen and I think the Muppet's could be the funnest of them all. Maybe even Jason Sehgal will show up too as they are promoting the movie. All in all this RAW has the potential to be very entertaining and if its not they still brought in more viewers (most likely) than most RAWs. The Muppets are very popular and I've read A LOT of posts on this forum that are stoked for this (klunderbunker is having a cardiac arrest from the excitement).

The Muppets are very well know just like The WWE is very well know some of the Guest Hosts they had in the past were not that great, but to me it's like going back to my child hood back in 84- 85 when I started watching wresting when I was 2 or 3 years old, think back if you were watching wrestling back then in the 80's they had Hulk Hogan's Rock N Wrestling Cartoon now WWE is bring in the Muppets for one night what is the harm in that honestly It's on Halloween Night as well so I see nothing wrong with it I find it cool that there doing it remember The WWE now and back in the 80's and in early early 90's were geared for kids so if you have a problem with the Muppets being on RAW for one night only then you should not watch it for one night.

I am backing up Jack-Hammer on this one. This is stupid and outright ******ed I can already picture the nauseating backstage segments that we're going to see with Santino Marella hanging out with Fozzie or some stupid bullshit like that. Yes I am one for stupidity and silliness in wrestling but in my opinion this detracts from what should be building up their future events like Survivor Series. This stupid cross promotion with WWE and another Muppets movie just detracts from Monday Night RAW in my view.

deanerandterry my gripe with the whole idea of a Miss Piggy and Vickie Guerrero showdown isn't a swipe towards you, it's just not something I want to see.

But yeah once again the world of wrestling not picking on any organization in particular because I've had issue with them all lately is once again disappointing me...for christ's sake.

Nope all we're going to see are things like the US Title, the IC Title and the Tag Belts still be treated like the jokes they've become all at the cost of cheap laughs and nonsense that has no directive. C'mon seriously, Miss Piggy and Vickie Guerrero getting into a verbal sparring contest, oh god like the once great Jerry Lawler said "I'd rather have my hemorrhoids removed with a chainsaw!".

To the OP the Muppets are ICONS, SHOWSTOPPERS, MAIN EVENTERS, as well as Hollywood Walk Of Fame. Sheamus meeting his muppet twin in Beaker would be epic as well as Miss Piggy and a Vickie Guerrero confrontation. I see Gonzo being apart of the Miz' and R-Truth's conspiracy as always getting shafted for Kermit. This Halloween Raw will be Legendary, Nuff Said.

To the OP the Muppets are ICONS, SHOWSTOPPERS, MAIN EVENTERS,

I believe thats shawn michaels but anyway im not looking forward to the muppets being on raw with there silly backstage segments they will have with santino ,vickie etc but if it brings in more viewers im all for it

Lets not take pro wrestling too seriously. The Muppets will have some great comedy moments with the roster. Its not like anyone believes that wrestling is real anymore.

I guess if they limit their apperance with working with the comoedy wrestlers like Santino Marella I guess this would be fine. With this and Hugh Jackman on RAW tonight, I would say that this recent line up of guests is a step above the RAW Guest Host Days when they had hasbeens or neverwas d-listers on the show.

Why not wait until the actual show to see what happens? There's no need to bash this decision. From a business stand point, it seems like a sure shot to be a good move. If it takes away from tv time for other superstars, all well. Its still probably better than those stupid vignettes WWE has been airing as of late to build mid card talent.

Im indifferent on this news. Doesn't really bother me one way or the other. They will get a small segment and maybe a couple of backstage scenes, but I doubt anything else will come of it. Not really going to change the program.

Here's the thing: I am a Muppets fan and I am looking forward to seeing what the WWE will do with the Muppets as guest hosts, but I'd be looking forward to it a lot more if it was the Muppets as they were before Disney got a hold of them. There was a time when they were a lot edgier and more chaotic and I think Disney has robbed them of a lot of that.

Still, I see nothing wrong with the Muppets being on a WWE show. Hell, if the Muppet show were still around, several of the WWE superstars would have already guest starred on that. Can you imagine what might have happened if this had occurred in the Attitude Era. Mick Foley and Crazy Harry causing mass destruction together while Trish Stratus and Miss Piggy had a hardcore brawl over who would get to join Kermit for dinner. Woulda been great.

I know that the Muppets and the WWE will not likely be as good as what it could have been back then, but I'll give it a shot. At least this way, Hornswoggle might have his legit dream come true moment of working with the Muppets.

Come on Jack Hammer lighten up a bit,I will be at this RAW here in Atlanta so this should actually be pretty funny. The Muppets are TV Icons and one of the most popular Shows in Television History. Its not like there going to be in the Ring or having a Match. I hope R-Truth & Vickie Guerrero do something with them Backstage.

I totally agree. I had to read it twice to make sure I knew what I was reading. This proves that WWE is truly catering to "Little Jimmys."

What's next, Sponge Bob as the Anonymous GM.

Vince McMahon is losing it. How could Stephanie McMahon, Trips or anyone else actually condone this idea?

Remember---Linda announced that she's running for senate AGAIN....so, expect more of the unexpected from an audience standpoint. Less PG-13 and more PG and G, even if they don't want to admit it. ;)

Personally, --just think though, Jericho comes back with his band Fozzy, only to get face to face with the real Fozzy? Vickie has a showdown with Miss Piggy? Tell me you wouldn't laugh at least once (if it's done correctly). Santino with the Swedish chef? Orton with Animal? (better yet, if they could get Batista for one night to make a guest spot to see the actual Animal from the Muppets)....Hmm....is it me, but the more and more I compare, the more and more I realize that MOST of the WWE are just live muppets to begin with??

For the people who missed the 1980's... well here it is. I'm not going to freak out about this, but I've never been the kind of person who tunes into a show I don't watch just because a random celeb I like is guest starring that week. I'm sure this works to some degree otherwise everyone in television would stop doing this sort of thing, but I can't imagine someone will tune in to see the muppets or Shaq or the kid from the Mac commercials and fall in love with pro-wrestling as a result. The average person doesn't take pro-wrestling very seriously so they may tune in to laugh and mock it, but one thing I learned growing up is that if I don't take myself seriously nobody else will either. It doesn't mean you can't have a little fun, but don't make yourself a joke because the attention you gain will be negative and short lived.
