The Greatest Actor to never win the Oscar

Jim Carey is very much alike in the Grinch, Yes Man, and Fun With Dick and Jane. When's the last time he had a good performance in a non-comedy role? Its been a looong time.

Yes Man is very different from the Grinch. Yes Man is different from Fun with Dick and Jane. So not a good comparison.

The only thing The Grinch and Dick and Jane had in common were they stole things. But there characters are so completely different.

These comparisons you made are horrible. Try something else.

If you said Yes Man and Liar Liar that would have been a better argument and even. Even these two movies had big differences. The character he plays in them are different. And also these are really the only two movies that have the most in common with each other.

The Academy Awards are right up with the WWe Hall of Fame with it's choices - Sandra Bullock's best actress, Anthony Hopkins winning best actor when Hannibal Lector is a supporting character in SOTL, Forrest Gump better than Pulp Fiction? A-hem:wtf:

Science fiction and horror are notoriously difficult genres to win best actor/ actress gongs in. Bruce Willis' performances in the 6th Sense and Unbreakable where shamelessly overlooked, particularly as they went so far against the standard 'smirk' characters he is famous for. Also an early movie role for Bruno was in a movie called In Country in which he is truly excellent as a vet of the conflict in Vietnem, IMO much more powerful than Cruise' performance as Ron Kovic in Born On The Fourth Of July.

First of all, it has been and will always be Oscar>Golden Globe. So referencing it doesn't mean anything especially when this is about the Academy Awards.

Seriously deep down in your heart, you think Sandler and Carrey are the best to never have won an Academy award? When there are numerous amount of actors with more talent then them with the likes of Depp, Leo, Pitt, Cruise, Norton, and so on. It is true that Sandler movies have made millions, but just because your movies make money doesn't mean you should be Oscar worthy.

Thing is your two guys never step out of their lines enough to be recognized. As we discussed in the other thread. Fact is ask 10 people what movies do you think of when you hear the names of Sandler and Carrey, I bet 10/10 times you get nothing but their comedies, nobody takes them seriously enough. It seems like comedies are just your cup of tea, not that theres nothing wrong with that, everyone has their own taste on what they like. But when you start a thread for Greatest actor to never win an Oscar, and state your picks, it is kind of funny compared to the list of people that still haven't won one. Like you said it is your opinion, it's just our opinion when we tell you why they shouldn't.

I wanted to address another question or response you had. Yes I do enjoy comedy. Jim Carrey is one of my favorite actors. As a matter of fact growing up he was my favorite actors. I also enjoyed Adam Sandler. But obviously Comedy is not your cup of tea.

Which brings me to my next point. Since you aren't a fan and other people might not be fans doesn't mean Jim Carrey or Adam Sandler are horrible or crappy actors. There just not for you. They don't suck; it's just your not a fan.

I do think they are very good at what they do. They are COMEDIC ACTORS. They have characters they play and have roles they have to learn too. I think it is a slap in the face of these actors the the Oscars don't recognize the Comedy Genre.

Also I want to note that I am a fan of actors like Johnny Depp, Brad Pitt, and Tom Hanks. I tend to watch just about anything.

HIS PORTRAYAL OF THE CHARACTERS

Individual awards aren't about the movie, what's so difficult to comprehend about that? It's about the actor's performance in a certain film and how well he takes on the role. Jim Carey was the same as the Riddler as he was as Ace Ventura, they just wore different clothes with a different alias.

Once again his characters are different and THE PORTRAYAL OF CHARACTERS was different. But I'm not arguing anymore because my opinion is the same.

The movies you said were the same earlier weren't anything alike earlier. In your earlier thread you went compared the Grinch to Yes Man. His characters weren't portrayed the same at all in those movies. Even though I disagree about the Riddler and Ace Ventura I won't argue. And if it is about individual portrayels and how well they take it on then Jim Carrey would be a shoe in for the Oscars since he is one of the most successful actors in the business.

I think we need to agree to disagree.

I never once in any of these threads say I didn't enjoy comedies. For your information I love comedies, in fact a large portion of my dvd collection are comedies. Never did I say I think Jim Carrey and Adam Sandler suck either. You got me confused with other people. I just don't feel they are Academy Award worthy especially if the question is, "greatest actor to never win", doesn't mean I don't enjoy their films. Just because I don't agree with your choices, doesn't mean I don't like the actors.

I didn't say the movies were alike, you freaking ..............., AGAIN, I said he was the same guy every single time. He, as an actor, didn't take the role upon himself and make it something unique. From the first scene he was in you knew it was him. Having it on in the background, hearing his voice, you knew it was him. Just like Adam Sandler, he's a very funny guy, but not a very good actor.

I think the argument needs to end. We need to agree to disagree.

I feel Jim Carrey is a great actor and deserves to win an oscar someday. But that's my opinion. I won't argue anymore about it.

Like I said I learned from this thread. I didn't realize that Johnny Depp or Brad Pitt didn't win. Maybe if I knew my OP would be different.

So let's end the argument here. Let's agree to disagree. We can discuss this in another thread.

I didn't say that's what you said. I know you said the portrayal of characters. That's why you shouldn't have crossed out the rest of my paragraph. Maybe you would have ACTUALLY COMPREHENDED WHAT I WAS SAYING.:banghead:

Since you can't I will break it down. You chose three movies. Yes Man, Fun with Dick and Jane, and The Grinch. THE CHARACTERS ARE PORTRAYED DIFFERENTLY.

Take the character from Yes Man.

Now take the character from the Grinch.

THEY ARE COMPLETELEY DIFFERENT AND ARE PORTRAYED THAT WAY.

That was my point. Not all of his character are the same. Not all of his portrayels are the same. I understand what you were say just fine.

But obiviously you can't comprehend what I'm saying to you.

Now let's end the argument. Really let's try to be mature and try to be respectful of each other. Okay.

I will apologize to you. I was responding to three different people. So your right I probably mistook you for someone else or misintrepreted what you are saying. As you said we just disagree and I do feel they (Jim Carrey and Adam Sandler) are. Well at least Jim Carrey moreso. But like I said I don't want argue and think we should agree to disagree. Sound Good.

Moving on....

I agree with Leonardo. At this point I'm really thinking Leo will be our great actor of the generation. I could easily see Leo, Johnny Depp, and some others in a James Dean/Elvis/Monroe style painting.

I have broken no rules in responding to your thread, so live with my comments (I am sorry that you can't put me on ignore).

And, no, you shouldn't be embarrassed for liking Jim Carrey or Adam Sandler, but you should be embarrassed for arguing that they're the greatest actors to never win Oscars. Also, Golden Globes mean jack shit in comparison to the Oscars; these awards are handed out by the Hollywood Foreign Press, not by directors, actors, actresses, screenwriters, cinematographers, etc. (AKA people who actually make films instead of bitching about them for a living).

Even if I could I wouldn't. I respect your opinion. And despite feeling like you attacked me for liking Jim Carrey and Adam Sandler I actually enjoyed what you had to say.

As a matter of fact I learned of an actor I never heard of before thanks to you. That being Peter O Toole. Maybe give me names of a few movies he's been in so I check them out and see what this guy is all about.:)

I might even change my opinion all together and agree with you in that he's the greatest actor to never win an oscar.
