Oscar Worthy: Arnold Schwarzenegger As The Terminator

Y 2 Jake

Slightly Autistic
Considered a terrible actor by many, but he's been almost perfect in every film he's been in. He's a gifted comedian and he's ultra charismatic. His most iconic role is that or The Terminator, the first two are classics.

After reading this months Empire I decided to watch T2 last night. He's great in it, like almost everybody else. He's everything he was in the first film, but he developed a personality and an understanding for feelings.

But is the role worthy of an Oscar nomination?

First off, let me just say that I completely agree. Arnold was a very talented actor and knew how to pick his roles to perfection. And yes, he was absolutely fantastic in T2.

Now, to get to the question, asked... in my opinion, if he were up for Best Supporting Actor, looking at the people nominated in 1991 for that award, I would say that Schwarzenegger would've deserved the Oscar. Not just a nomination, but the actual trophy. However, since he was the first billing, for him to even get nominated, it would have to have been for Best Actor. Now, let's look at the nominees from 1991 for Best Actor:

Anthony Hopkins - The Silence of the Lambs as Dr. Hannibal Lecter
Warren Beatty - Bugsy as Bugsy Siegel
Robert De Niro - Cape Fear as Max Cady
Nick Nolte - The Prince of Tides as Tom Wingo
Robin Williams - The Fisher King as Parry

Now see, looking at those nominations, I have to say that he would still get a nomination from me, simply for the fact that he was on-screen much longer then Hopkins was in Lambs, and De Niro was in Cape Fear (but God damn De Niro was specfuckingtacular in Cape Fear, I must say). So, looking at it like that, I take Warren Beatty's ass off of there and give Arnold a nomination. But, he doesn't win. While I would say he was better then Hopkins overrated performance, he wouldn't beat De Niro in Cape Fear if the deciding vote was left up to me.

But yes... at the end of the day, for Terminator 2, Arnold Schwarzenegger was more then deserving for AT LEAST nomination.
