The Great Khali Is Leaving WWE?

According to a resport on PWInsider.com, The Great Khali's deal with WWE is set to expire soon or has already expired. Word going around is that Khali hasn't signed a new deal and him leaving was the reason they ran the injury angle with him being taken out by Mark Henry on SmackDown! last Friday.

If he really is leaving or is gone, I think it's great news. No doubt he's made a good deal of money working in WWE and, if he intends to move back to India, he'll probably live like a king. I know Khali has done the best he could, given how limited he is, but the guy is a big chunk of dead weight in my view.

Couldn't agree more, although for some reason I always enjoyed seeing him around and he seemed like a nice guy, he had no place in the ring and it will be nice to not have to sit through any more Khali matches. Thank goodness the Jinder angle didn't continue because if we had to sit through those two together for much longer I would have puked, hopefully Jinder goes out soon as well.

Khali leaving is great news for wrestling fans but bad news for the WWE. Khali wasn't that great of a wrestler. Had a very limited moveset and could barely sell moves. (His acting on his injured leg is a good example.) However, Khali was WWE's big money maker for their audience base in India. Now SmackDown has more airtime for their other developing stars. Great news for the show.

Khali is going to go back home where he's going to be treated like royalty. I think that's good for him. I personally would like him to be in more movies because he can play a good misunderstood big guy like he did in The Longest Yard. Whatever he does I hope he's happy.

Well they have Jinder Mahal now to attract the Indian Market..

You can also understand him when he talks...It was very had to understand Khali anyways...

Khali is a spectacle but not a great wrestler. The spectacle wore out a long time ago and he just didn't have the skill to follow it up, other than some decent comedy. Too bad, I love it when wrestlers can pull off moves that you would never expect (UT hurling himself over the top rope).

This guy sucks as a wrestler. He never pull out any grappling move except for that two handed choke and the vice grip. All he does is strike and push. He can't even speak english. He actually become the biggest jobber in the WWE since losing his world title. It's just about time he is released.

As a wrestling fan, I am so happy that Khali is leaving.Jinder Mahal will still be around to bring heat on behalf of India. I am just happy that we as fans don't have to sit through another boring slow paced match of Khali's again. He seemed more content making movies anyway. I am glad that he got the chance to achieve his dream and work for the WWE but Thank God it's over and he got out before he seriously injured someone. I predicted a few months back that before he left he was going to seriously injure one of the undercard. I am so glad that I am wrong and he is leaving before he had the chance to do so.

Obviously I'll probably be in the minority, but I'd much rather see The Great Khali on my TV than some other bland vanilla midget that has Future Endeavored written all over him. Why people would rather see boring guys like Heath Slater and Primo Colon instead of The Great Khali is beyond me.

I, for one, am disappointed with the news.

I agree with pretty much everyone in this thread. Khali isn't a wrestler, nor is he that entertaining. He's just a giant, that's all he has going for him; size.

I say good riddance. I have always thought he was a waste of money/roster space. The guy has ONE move, and that move isn't even exciting to watch. You think someone his size would be able to at least have a few power moves. But nope, not Khali. He even looks awkward when he walks.

I really do hope he is leaving. And like I read earlier in this thread, they now have Jinder Mahal to appeal to the Indian demographic. At least that guy has more than one offensive move.

He can even work the mic. (i think, i have no idea what he's saying.)

p.s. the Jinder/Santino skit had me rolling. i don't care what anyone says, i love Santino. he's hilarious, and he can actually wrestle.

For me, total apathy. Couldn't really care less one way or the other. If he does get released, I for one will not miss him whatsoever. Terrible in the ring with an uninteresting character. Granted he's a big guy who can occasionally portray a monster role, or conversely can be used to put a smaller guy over, but even still, had he been released months ago, I doubt I would have even missed him or realized he was even gone. If he were to stick around, I guess that would be OK too, because as awful as he is, he is still better than some of the other guys on the roster who are still employed.

I'm with Sly in the sense that I'd rather see the Great Khali stumble his way through a match than see Heath Slater do anything. However, I'm not exactly disappointed with the news, because he was barely on TV anyway. You'd see him for three minutes, max, on Smackdown. He'd stumble about, fuck up and stuff, and then leave. If you think watching a 7' 4'' man doing that isn't fun, there's something wrong with you.

As for the effect on the Indian market, who knows? Maybe it isn't as big as people think if WWE are OK with Khali walking away, and still having Jinder Mahal get squashed by Santino Marella on Raw.

I think it's good for all parties really. Khali made a lot of money working for the wwe and in return he helped establish a significant fanbase in India. Whether that fanbase will stick around after Khali is gone is anyone's guess but Khali certainly earned his spot on the card despite being very limited in the ring.
When Khali first came into wwe there was a novelty to someone of his size and stature but that novelty has long worn off and as he slid down the card it got a bit unrealistic for him to fight mid-card talent and lose.

I agree with slyfox in that i would rather see Khali have his spot in the card rather then some jobber who the crowd have no interest in whatsoever(Slater JTG) but there is talent on the smackdown roster like Bryan, Barrett, Gabriel and Kidd who we haven't seen much of in recent weeks and could benefit from some extra match time(Bryan and Barrett in particular). If they get extra matches due to Khali leaving then i'm in favour of it.

Nothing against Khali, but I never understood this talk about his bringing in a significant fan base from India. He can barely move, doesn't talk and can't wrestle. Is the fact he's from that country enough to make those good folks want to see him in the ring? Really?

Still, I did rather enjoy the novelty factor he brought and it's some consolation that his last match against Mark Henry (if it was his last match) was more competitive in nature than the squash contests he engaged in before (whether he was the squasher or the squashee).

I wish him a long life and healthy knees.

I like to bust this out in every Great Khali thread but I am surprised at Slyfox's take. I didn't see that one coming.

The Great Khali is over 7 foot tall and weighs over 400 pounds. What in the bluest of hell do you want him to do in the ring that he doesn't already do? I get sick and tired of you people always criticizing guys like Henry and Khali because they are boring and move slow and all that shit. News flash. They don't need to deviate to what got them there in the first place. Khali uses chops and strikes because he is a huge dude and those chops and strikes are pretty damn effective. Khali isn't going to go out there and do fucking moves that guys like Bourne do.

I enjoyed Khali matches for the most part especially during his title reign and don't give me that crap about bad PPV matches especially his one with Batista which I know someone will bring up. Let's look at Batista's Summerslam track record.

2002: No match
2003: No match
2004: I didn't even remember him during that match with Edge and Jericho
2005: Boring match with JBL
2006: Boring match with Booker
2008: Great match with Cena
2009: No match

I think you see where I'm going with this.

Khali is far from the worst wrestler and worst champion ever because there have been a shit ton of guys who you perceive are better than him and have had worse reigns then him. I remain a Khali fan and I will miss him if he does leave the WWE.

I wouldn't call this great news, to call it great news is disrespectful. Khali's had a good run considering his physical condition (I still find it hard to believe that he's not suffering from acromalegy), and I wish him the best. He was used well, and was a world champion, considering his mobility he did quite well. In my viewership (from jan 2010-current) I've never seen him over used and I liked seeing him on used the way he was.

I would call this the right move on the WWE's part though. It's a good idea to trim the fat and they've already got Big Show, so they don't need Great Khali when Big Show is vastly superior in every way.

I am not with the majority on this subject and agree with little jerry lawler. I would not be as happy to see Khali leave the WWE as a lot of people seem to be. I enjoy watching him in the ring despite his limitations, I pretty much expect a guy of his size to have limitations and every big giant who has wrestling talent for me is a bonus not a requirement. He is an individual by default due to his size and therefore a positive in my eyes. He may not have had as much in ring ability as Bigshow but he was far from being The Yeti and perhaps because I am as much into gimmicks and characters as I am into actual wrestling..I will be sad to see him go.

I say good riddance. He only lasted as long as he did because of being so popular in India. Not only do they have Jinder Mahal now for that region's fans, but Khali can help in ways other than having matches that few if any want to see. He could still keep in contact and help them with appearances or events in that region when they are there, that helps his fans who get to see him and then WWE do not have to worry about his injuries or low quality matches. After having been fed to first Cena and then Batista, followed by an awful face turn and an uneventful run with Jinder, I'd say Khali's career was never going to pick up again. If he's gone for good then Henry gets credit onscreen for ending his career, if he returns then well I will probably just use his matches as a time to head to the fridge.

I'm sure Mahal would do for India what Khali did. Pretty sure he will.

Why were they low quality matches? Answer me that. Wait, I can answer that for you.

"Because he's slow and boring and he only knows two moves."

If that's 80% accurate or more, let me know.

By "fed", you mean Batista and Cena being given a monster heel to work with to give the fans some doubt into whether they would win or not. That's my definition of "fed".

Imma miss him. :(

He wasn't the best wrestler, but I really fail to see how he was the worst. He was big and slow, but once he got the advantage.. Brain chops and head vices for everyone! I loved it. haha

Regardless of what a majority thought of him, he got over considerably and the fans liked cheering for him. He just had an endearing awkwardness to him. And presence, lots and lots of presence. Not shocked that so many people downplayed the Khali chant during that lumberjack match on SD a few weeks ago. Which is too bad because he is one of the few guys on that show that got a reaction.

Best wishes for him. :)

He should have been Future Endeavored years ago. The guy is a joke. He's big but other than that, can't do a whole lot. The Khali Kiss Cam sucked, the face Khali was worse than the incoherent heel Khali. His manager was annoying as all hell.

Get this bozo out of here.

I was always worried that he was going to injure someone. I mean don't get me wrong huge dudes are always entertaining to watch to see what they can pull off in the ring, but with the fact that he couldn't speak english and the fact that throughout the majority of matches he looked like he needed to be carried through each individual spot. He looked like was a botch away from seriously injuring someone. I wish him well and hope that now he can fully focus on his movies and acting because that is what he is better at.

From what I read on the front page, it sounded like while Kahli is done as an active wrestler, WWE still wants to keep him for the sake of marketing to the Indian market. Granted, I do think that's why Jinder Mahal is on the roster but Kahli is marketable. All that aside and as far as Kahli leaving strictly as a wrestler is concerned, I'm not heartbroken about it. He's always been rather clumsy in the ring and I haven't really been that emotionally invested in the guy since he was beating up Undertaker in 2006. As far as the active roster is concerned, Kahli is no major loss. His feud with Mahal was a flop in my opinion and it wasn't like we were likely gonna see him win any titles anytime soon.

The only upside to Khali was that he was unique and different from the usual big man. In the last few months, WWE has really used Khali as a guy to put others over which should happen. Those two things aside, I'm glad Khali is done for now with WWE. His matches are awful and he looks uncordinated for his size. Even simple things like falling and walking looks painful and hard for him to execute properly. Maybe now that he's done on Smackdown, WWE will start trying to keep new stars on top to fill the spot.

He has only remained on the roster for as long as he has because he is thought of as a hero in India and brought in alot of revenue for the WWE.

Khali has always sucked in the ring, I have very rarely seen a wrestler in WWE as limited as he is, he can't sell, can't move, can barely perform any moves and can't talk. I really hope he is leaving because I do not think I have ever been entertained by anything he has ever done in his wrestling career, and the memory of him holding the World Title sickens me, possibly the most undeserved title reign in WWE history.

However, he is meant to be a nice guy and will probably go back to India a very wealthy man and can enjoy living in luxury after just a few short years of work, so fair play to the guy

I hope we never see him on WWE TV again, he was a waste of airtime and took up valuable time from wrestlers who actually have potential.

Khali is someone who is well revered and I think it's cool that he got his 15 minutes a few years back. Hopefully he makes a few sporadic returns in the far future just for the shock value that someone his size can garner.
