Yakuza III

Selected by the people, for the people!

Let's all pretend that God Of War III is not going to run away with this award, shall we?

Any of these games could be called the Sony Exclusive of the year and it is your choice to decide which it will be. Will it be the slick graphics and gameplay of Gran Turismo? Or, will it be the rank outsider that is God Of War III?

Which game takes home this prestigious award? You decide!

*Polls will go up in 2 days! In the event of a tie, written votes will sway the decision

Well my vote personally goes to a darkhorse in my opinion, coming out in the first quarter i'm not sure if many people played it but i had the pleasure of renting it out from my local video store and the moment i started playing it, i knew it was undoubtly one of the greatest video games i had ever played. I am talking about Heavy Rain, it was such a unique experience that i personally had never seen before. Focusing on the story and realistic graphics i actually found myself close to tears during parts of it. Gameplay didn't lack with the unique way of controlling your character with movements of the controller.

A great experience and fantastic story along with voice acting.

Heavy Rain has sold over 1 million copies worldwide, received universal critical acclaim, and will probably win a boatload of GOTY awards when the time comes. I would hardly call it a dark horse for this award (it'll probably win it by a landslide).

Anyway, I'm going with Yakuza 3. It came out in 2009 in Japan but Americans had to petition Sega to bring it to the States (thus its 2010 release here; I know it was released in 2010 in Europe as well, hence why it qualified for this award).

I consider Yakuza to be the greatest franchise released since Resident Evil and Silent Hill. Yakuza 3 is no exception to the great gameplay and storylines of the first two. Moreover, I thought the graphics were fan-fucking-tastic. I can't wait for part 4 to come out in the first quarter of next year!

I don't think that God of War III will run away with this award. If it does, I think it will be strictly due to the name value that it possesses.

When it was released, Heavy Rain was never thought to be a financial success nonetheless a contender for Game of the Year. Both Sony and the developer Quantic Dream initially estimated that the game would sell only 200,000 - 300,000 copies total. After its released, it has become a financial success having already sold over 1 million copies worldwide and is expected to sell an additional 500,000 copies by the end of the year.

Heavy Rain can confidently be defended in any Game of the Year conversation.

Heavy Rain is the most unique and original game that has been developed for any console in quite some time. It is one of the best looking games that have been released this year,

Heavy Rain's gameplay is not only innovative, but is an element of gameplay that you will see appear in a number of games in the near future. The gameplay allowed the gamer to become deeply involved and engaged within the game's emotional story.

Again, I only played two off the list - Heavy Rain and God of War. I'd like to play GT5 but I've never been good enough for realistic racers. I suppose that's what happens when you don't have a driving license.

God of War was as good as you expected it to be. A great adventure game. Some people prefer more complex controls so you can bust out a billion combos. To that, I say, well, some of us just aren't good enough. This game let you feel like a badass without having to have the dexterity of an octopus.

When did WipEout HD Fury come out? Because that game is gooooood. And, for a difficult game, I'm surprisingly good at it. Uncharted 2 should probably be nominated, though it controlled more clumsily than I expected to. Wait, that was last year, wasn't it? I wrote it now. It's too late.

My vote goes to Heavy Rain. It was innovative and involving. Sure, it was arguably one big quick time event but there were so many clever touches. I'd gladly welcome more games that did similar stuff. I'll have to replay it one of these days to see if I get a different story.

Oddly, it's the multiplayer experience of Heavy Rain that puts it ahead. I know what you're thinking - Heavy Rain didn't have multiplayer. Well, I don't know what you'd call getting a friend over and finding the best way to brutally (and hilariously) mutilate your character but god damn, that shit is funny. Game of the Year, son.

Heavy Rain is probally the greatest game i have ever played and i have played through generations of consoles and roughly over 1000 games. The game is very diffrent to the current FPS dominated market which now is starting to be the most over used genre and causing lots of gamers to be sick and tired of these FPS games and Quantic Dream took a huge risk as this type of game is very diffrent but it worked because people wanted something new and thats what Heavy Rain is.

I have never been so into a game like this i hardly ever go crazy over a game but there was many "Oh Shit" moments that made me go crazy trying not to die. Like a few others have said it did get people involved and the choices you had to make was like no other game in other games you get boring ass "Would you like to choose path A or B" that doesn't effect the story or make you care less and then some games tell you to either shoot this guy or not and i couldn't care less but in Heavy Rain i was given the choice to either shoot this guy who had a wife and kids and was begging not to be shot or not shoot him and not find my son. I legit had to think this one through which a game never made me do.

Heavy Rain's story made you attach to these characters and you cared about them in one of the like 19 endings of Heavy Rain *Huge spoiler coming up*

Ethan gets killed by the police and his son watches it happen right in front of him (Powerfull shit) then in the next scene you see his son at his Dad's grave when i got this ending i was like "Holy Fuck!! I did 5 trials to save my son that nearly killed me and the fucking police in the end was the thing that killed me"

Other games have never made me care as much as Heavy Rain which is why it gets my vote. GOW III gets a mention too.

Heavy Rain was fantastic. Just such a terrific story and a unique concept and so dark loved it, although I did love Yakuza 3 as well, I didn't finish Yakuza 3. (finished Yakuza 2 which was really similar to it)
