The Forgotten Gimmick Match

I cant remember the last time i saw this type of match rear is head into wrestling, but the more and more i watch some of these fueds, Mainly the Michael/Jericho fued that was going on, Or even the current batista/jericho match, More so, with jericho always on the run, or always weaseling his way out of things, including to win a match....

Question is..where is the strap match?, you know the good ole days of putting a leather strap around each others wrists, to where they cant run. You put two people who can work a good match together around the gimmick, and you usually get entertaining results... Not to mention you can play off the idea... expand it into other matches... such as...example..

Jericho and michaels ladder match, theres a number of things you could have done with those two, attached to each other. Imagine trying to climb that ladder, and having to drag your opponet next to the ladder with you, only to have him pull you back from the belt...

Batista and jericho this sunday, Put the little scared, weasely guy attached to the be monster... It just seems to me this match has been forgotten

Dusty Rhodes VS Randy Orton was a Texas Bullrope Match. This is basically a strap match with a cowbell in the middle of the rope.

Yeah, the strap match is underused (if it is used at all). However, it isn't really a great concept to begin with. You lose any big offensive moves in favor of the straight foward fighting.

Now, if they implemented a newer version of the strap match, although maybe not to an extreme extent, I can see the match being used again.

I thought that a strap match would have been great for MVP vs Matt Hardy for the US title as MVP kept getting counted out of all his matches. The strap match really prevents this from happening.

A texas bullrope type match could have also worked for JBL vs Chris Jericho, after he choked out Jericho on Raw and Jericho returned the favor at the royal rumble. Again, this didn't happen.

Cyber Sunday could also be a place to re-invent a strap match, at least allow it to be a choice for a match. Unfortunately, the WWE has turned into a spot-fest, with big spots being favored over actual wrestling. Thus, a strap match is to restricted to be used.

A number of gimmick matches that are better than this have been forgotten. Matches such as Iron Man and Table matches. I would much rather see one of these two matches make a comeback than see the Strap match make a comeback.

The strap match isn't used often for a number of reasons, among these being that it is a little bit boring. It's hard to do any spots when you're tied to the other person. A strap match would only make sense if it had the proper buildup, which is sometimes hard to do. But like checkmate said, it would've been perfect in the JBL/Jericho feud.

In strap matches, you can basically just punch, choke, maybe hit with a bell/something attached to the strap. But you can't really actually wrestle, it's basically just a fight, not a wrestling match. It shouldn't be used because it limits the wrestlers and does not entertain as much as other gimmick matches.

After watching several strap matches, im convinced that the strap shouldnt be a limitation on performance, but when used right, actually enhance, cause it provides stability in some cases, but more as a watch classic strap matches, and compare it with wrestling styles today, im even more sure that no one had utilized the strap or pulled off the match like it could be pulled off.... i really think its begging for inovation
