The Curse of Netflix, Hulu, Vudu, etc.....

The Phenom of WZ
When all these streaming services came out everyone was all happy and excited. Why shouldn't everyone have been happy and excited? We could watch countless movies and television shows whenever we wanted to. It was amazing, but, these streaming services have a darkside. For one thing, I can't remember the last time I watched regular tv. I mean, my dvr is so full that to record shows that I would normally watch, at the latest, a day after they aired, I have to delete something else that I haven't yet had the opportunity to watch. Why? Because of Netflix and the others addictive nature. The curse! It goes deeper than that, though. I find myself not playing my video games as much or doing other things I like and leaving either my PS4 on all the time or my bluray player on all the time because of Netflix and the others. The curse!

Has anyone else had a run in with the streaming curse or is it just me? Let me know your opinions.

Another curse is the stupid region locking. I had to use a proxy to get American Netflix which allowed me to watch Bones, Mad Men and a host of cool stuff. Now that Netflix have stopped that my Netflix list is now one tenth of what it used to be

Seems to me you need to budget your time better or stop recording shit you don't watch.

It's not my fault. It's those streaming services fault. Then, Hulu has f'n Naruto Shippuden on there. Netflix has every Power Rangers series, all leathal weapons, and several dc animated products. Hulu has all of the Marvel animated films. They both have all of Supernatural. It's just to much. Then there's Daredevil, Agents of Shield, Flash, Arrow. OMG!!!!!

I've lost interest in Netflix. I'm fully back to watching t.v. Call me boring, I like Come Dine with Me Canada, C.O.P.S, Bar Rescue, Border Patrol, Pawn Shows, Gold Rush shows, Hockey, WWE and movies.

I'll turn on Netflix once in a blue moon.

All streaming services have the ability to watch what you want, when you want from wherever you left off.

My suggestion is turn off the Netflix or whatever you have and take a few days and empty your DVR. Everything you just mentioned will still be there.

Netflix ain't really that great though. I canceled it, fits got thrown, then we went back to comfortabley not using it.

And then Netflix got the ax soon after, eh?

I'm in the opposite camp of a lot of you folks. I'd rather have Netflix than cable at this point. Besides sports, which you can usually get in HD with an antenna or Chromecast, the only other TV subscription I need is HBO, and that's similar to Netflix where you can just order a separate account.

I can watch most of my favorite sitcoms and the few dramas I like on Netflix and their original program has proven time after time to be brilliant from Bojack Horseman to Narcos to Orange is the New Black to Stranger Things.

Once professional sports (particularly NBA) follows the Netflix model, I plan on doing away with cable completely. But that could be a long time from now. Or never.

I have the opposite problem.

I have a list of stuff added to favorites or watch list or whatever the hell it's called and I hardly watch any of it. I tend to stick with the stuff I'm familiar with. I have the WWE Network and hardly watch that either.

I don't have a DVR which is fine. With apps and most of the TV stations offering new episodes online I can just watch them there.

I've canceled my cable & subscribed to PSVue, it's cheaper & gives me more options than my local cable provider was. Hulu will likely get the axe from me soon, as I hardly ever watch it anymore, & watch none of there original programming. The only reason I have Netflix still is because it's cheap & has tons of good original stuff I like. WWE Network is worth it for NXT & the PPVs alone, which is mostly all I've been watching on there lately. UFC Fight Pass might be about the most worthless streaming service I currently have, unless you really like watching old fights, or prelims featuring guys you've probably never heard of, there is really no reason to have it.

Australia has ridiculous mark-up prices for entertainment. On average, a video game costs $40 more dollars on console when compared to US prices. So, on that very short, and very brief basis, Netflix being roughly $10 a month for a majority of good shows is insanely good. Our alternatives are free TV, which is riddled with absolute shit, or cable, which is expensive as hell. Even if I don't watch Netflix for months on end, when I do come back to it, I binge watch the hell out of it. Plus, my family uses my account, and I'm more than happy to pay for them to watch it. My sister can watch all seasons of Vikings thrice over whilst creating art for her university assignments.

But to answer the topic: the curse doesn't exist. You just fail at time management. I want to watch so much media on Netflix, but my university assignments are prioritised. Then, work and going to uni, and cleaning the house, and personal upkeep, then socialising, etc. There are so many things I need to do before Netflix crosses my mind.

US Netflix is excellent though. You'd put your head through a wall if you were forced to keep the UK version.

I never watch live TV unless it's a football, baseball, or basketball. Or occasionally the news on in the background. Even my DVR I haven't watched as much anymore, however the summer season of shows isn't too big for me.

I'm at the point where I'm still committed to the shows I dvr, but I'm basically on a "hiring freeze" when it comes to adding new shows to that exclusive list.

Queen of the South though I made an exception for, I've been watching that. Mr. Robot is getting DVR'd too but I've been uninterested this season. Suits I am also watching the night it airs. Fear The Walking Dead I'll be watching when it returns, as well as The Walking Dead. Feed The Beast I have DVR'd and want to watch, but I've got pretty much the entire season to catch up on.

The Walking Dead and The Americans are my top two shows right now. Better Call Saul and Fear The Walking Dead are next. Suits, Survivor, Louie I also make sure to watch. Family Guy I have DVR'd out of tradition but watching that is becoming so painful. American Dad though is still funny I think, but I haven't watched this new season. South Park, Untold Stories of the ER, Fargo, The Detour, Queen of the South, Feed The Beast. Those are all the shows I'm DVRing. The Blacklist is getting added to this list to this season.

But other than that there aren't as many shows I'm as dedicated to. Mostly I've just been busier too with work and family. Even Netflix I don't have much to watch right now...you know how you don't want to commit to a movie but then you watch like 9 episodes of some TV show? Well for me I've been sticking to half hour tv shows too. However I did catch up on The Blacklist finally. Sometimes I watch random episodes of Breaking Bad or The Walking Dead too.

To be fair though I am a college student, and when I'm at school I don't even bother putting the cable wire in my TV. Too much hassle, so I'm exclusively netflix there.

Netflix is also better for kids too. Because it can be much more controlled. You can choose what they watch, no targeted advertising of toys that they can cry until they get, etc.

I just wish that Netflix had pretty much all the TV shows, and that their were uploaded right after air dates. Anyone think that could happen in the near future?

Since I got the WWE network and Netflix, I think I may have watched about 5 shows on TV that aren't football matches. That was about 18 months ago

I'm not saying all I do is Netflix. I still have my job and social life, however, when I do relax and want to watch tv or something, it's Netflix, Hulu, Vudu, WWE Network, or Funimation. I have the whole last season of Fear The Walking Dead on my DVR along with Preacher, these last few episodes of Suits, a bunch of ID shows, and other stuff. Ever since the basketball season ended I haven't had to keep up with my DVR religiously.

They just make them so convenient that you don't even want to watch tv anymore.
