Honestly when people say Edge's spear is weak it pisses me off. Your all being realist in a fake sport but honestly Edge is very much not a light weight. Edge isn't one of those muscle heads that's sure but the guy is 6 ft 5 and nearly 250 pounds how can you say that won't hurt you. 6 ft 5 is huge being 250 pounds is huge plus I always liked how Edge's spear right as he hit it he normally hit it where it was a great part in the story of a match. Even when he misses it it normally looks great amazing great if you ask me.

Batista's spear is sort of odd for me but I still love watching the Spear Buster on Elijah Burke great spot.

Rhyno: Well I'm biased I really Hate Rhyno I'll admit it I just don't like him for some odd reason.

Big Show: 7 ft 0 ramming in to you show's realism you don't got up.

The Pounce loved it not sure if it counts as a spear though as it was just a shoulder tackle but it most of the time looked amazing.

Goldberg: Well it wasn't really his big finish just his pre cursor move.

Well I voted for Goldberg, as I remember he speared someone out of mid air one time. Actually wanted to vote for Monty Brown. Technically it wasn't a spear but it was close and it always looked really cool. BTW where is he now?

goldberg wins...no corny presetup like shawn's foot stomp or edge's hand thingy....on top of that as soon as he hit u he popped up amp and hype...his form in the beginning was insane and as time when on it became more about how strong and impactful it looked....aside from all that he took a dude from a military press to the spear...insane

rhyno is a savage beast with it though...if he's in 2nd its by a fraction of a fraction.

edge's spear sucks from the preset up to the spear to the look he makes after...big shows was better.

dave's name doesnt belong in this convo...i'm exiting on that note.

I cannot believe that Edge is even an option on this list. I mean I understand that he uses the Spear as his finisher, but it is one of the worst finishing moves in wrestling history. Edge is so skinny and weak looking that his spear looks completely unimpactfull; even when it is sold correctly. Ever since Edge started using the spear in the late 90's I thought it was a huge mistake and I am honestly amazed that he is allowed to use it as a finisher after all these years. I guess that is one of the consequences, of the end of the Kayfab era (or a cause for it). Edge using the spear is another example that realism is not valued anymore by many workers in the business...

Hands down the best spear is Bill Goldberg and it wasn't even his finisher. Goldberg was a professional football player so he legitimately knew how to tackle effectively. If you want to talk realism and devastation, just watch a Bill Goldberg match circa 1999 and you will see what that move is supposed to look like.

And for the record, Rhynos Gore is not a spear. The Gore looks similar to the spear, but with the Gore momentum is used to hit and throw his opponent; as opposed to a spear which is a straight tackle.

Well personally i am going to have to go with the man who was actually the first wrestler i saw when i first tuned into RAW during the end of May in 2007 being Bobby Lashley.

When i first saw his spear i was simply amazed at the sheer raw power and speed that this man was able to deliever it with. While Goldberg, Edge and Rhyno may of put it on the map i feel with Lashley it would pin anyone, no questions asked. He beat the Big Show with it, he beat Umaga with it, Booker, JBL, Benjamin. If he was still in WWE i feel he would win the WWE Championship with it.

I'd have to say Goldberg's Spree was pretty awesome. He was probably the most underrated wrestler with the most amazing finisher. It was so brutal. I mean if you actually injure people you have to have the best spree.

Goldberg, hands down. Not even Edge could get the pop Goldberg did when he came out for the first time on WWF television and speared The Rock.

He'd probably get the same pop all over again if he came out and speared a top heel on either Raw or Smackdown present day too.

My favorite would be Batista. He executed it rather well and it looked devastating at the same time. Goldberg's was devastating though. Edge's is usually decent except it looks weaker then others spears.

Rhyno's Spear was pretty nasty

Bobby Lashley Spear was pretty intense.

Big Show, can't really recall him using a spear, but if he does try one, I'll see him coming a mile away, and have enough common sense to move out the way.

Batista- Alright but I know NFL Players who spear better than that.

Edge- His spear is too cute, I can take a spear from him.

But Hands down without a Doubt, Goldberg got the best spear in the business. Goldberg put the Spear on the Map. Really he didn't need the JackHammer, But just think, Imagine a 6ft 4 or 6ft 6 290 lbs specimen (who problaly runs a 4.2in the 40) running at u faster than a speeding bullet with all of his might just to take u out. If u gonna take a hit like that, might as well read your last scriptures, say your last prayer, get your pass, and board on your first class flight to them pearly gates. Yeah tell the man upstairs u sorry, cause taking a spear from Goldberg is like getting hit by a car....Literally.

Naturally, you guys should be able to go on YouTube to see why Goldberg's Spears can't be matched with any other but what I can really say is that no one's Spear has ever been more memorable than Goldberg's. He revolutionized the Spear, made it famous, and inspired many big men to use the move after him.

Every Monday on Nitro, Goldberg hitting the Spear on anyone was legendary. Back then, everyone in the arena got on their feet when the Spear hit. It was also always a WCW moment when Goldberg hit the Spear on someone, especially in big matches. Here's some of his most memorable WCW Spears:

  • Spears on Glacier
  • Brutal Spear on Kanyon
  • Spear on The Giant
  • Spear on Hollywood Hogan for the WCW World Title

There's many more!...you just gotta look them up...

Then in the WWE, he brought the Spear where many guys have and would try to gain that same reaction from the Spear, only to get a half-assed reaction. His most memorable WWE Spears were:

  • Spear on The Rock on his WWE debut
  • Spear on Christian in 2003
  • Spear on Rosy, through the security barricade
  • Spear on Nunzio, at the 2004 Royal Rumble
  • Spear on Stone Cold
  • Spear on Chris Jericho, at the Elimination Chamber

His WWE Spears still had that same brutal impact every time he hit it. You can't tell me that Edge's Spear would bring that reaction out of you when he hits it. None can compete with Goldberg's. NONE.

Edges spear sucks but most of the "IWC Know it alls" think the sun shines out of Edge,Jericho,Danial Brian,Jericho and CM Punks ass and would most likey give them head at the snap of a fingure.Serious Edges spear is really lame! And the first time i watched him do it I believe my reaction was "wtf was that, that ws shit" and it still stands today. It looks weak, theres no power behind it and it does about the same amout of damage as RVDs shoulder thrusts he does in the corner. Goldbergs was 1000 times better and it wasnt even his final move. I guess its one of the many wholes in wrestling people could come back from a Goldberg spear yet a weak ass Edge spear can finish someone 1,2,3! But then again WWE have always loved the simple finishers from Hogans leg drop to Batistas powerbomb to Cenas firemans fucking carry.

Keep it coming guys! Good stuff!

Two things-

1. I apologize for not keeping Batista an an option, just slipped my mind. But keep backing him up I'll do a roundup of everyone's votes tomorrow.

2. Edge, I have always liked his character over the years but have found it difficult to take his spear seriously unless it's from an elevated point (ala WM26 from the table). The Impaler DDT actually is more believeable. But again, lotta people backin' him up by saying he ain't that small, and takes the man down perfectly. Valid I guess.

P.S: Pounce was great, was a shoulder block though. And I'm surprised nobody is saying Jesse Neal. I ain't jokin' He does a good spear, boy deserves at least one vote.

It depends on how you look at. The most spectacular spears have been done by Edge in many ways. From the top rope, off of ladders, done to good workers. So, it worked well.

Bill Goldberg had the most brute force behind it.

Rhino/Rhyno had some of the best sellers taking his spear, so it always looked really impressive. Just this week on TNA, RVD sold the hell out of the Gore.

The worst is Batista. Nice spine buster, but his spear looks... awful.

Im gonna have to go with Rhyno. The way he speared people through tables in ECW was so intense that thinking about getting hit with it made me sick to my stomach. He also had the perfect look to use that move. Short, squat, and with legs that looked like tree trunks. His spears always looked like they had the most impact to them as well.

Goldberg had a good spear as well. The reason I give Rhyno the nod is because Goldberg used the spear to set up the Jackhammer. When Rhyno speared you it was over.

Edge just doesn't do it for me. The spear is all about force and momentume. With Edge being one of the thinner superstars on the entire roster, it just doesn't ever look like hes got the force he needs.

Ive never seen the Big Show use the spear enough to consider it one of his main moves.

So my answer is Rhyno

After being stood at ringside, literally leaning on the ring as Rhyno delivered the Gore at an indie show, it is an absolutely mind-blowing move, the force he connects with looks like it will smash the opponents ribs into pieces. It just doesnt look like a normal spear to me, he just flattens you.

Goldberg's spear is a close second as that also looks devastating, but is only a secondary finisher, used as a set-up for The Jackhammer, while Rhyno uses the Gore as a way of ending the match.

So for that reason, am going for the man beast Rhyno, as the master of the Spear

Goldberg's and Rhyno's have the most power behind them, but Edge always gets the crowd into it and looks maniacal when he's about to deliver it. And for those saying Edge is skinny, please. He's a good 6 ft 4, so his weight is spread out a lot, but he's 240 lbs. He's definitely big enough for it to be a believable finisher.

I think that a Spear is a big guy's finisher. When a guy of average build does it, it just does not look all that painful at all. So that is why I have not chosen Edge here despite the fact that he has been the most successful among the guys that have been mentioned here.

I chose Rhyno like the OP. I know that Goldberg is a good choice too but the thing is it was not his finisher. It was more of a setup move for his Jackhammer. Also I liked the way Rhyno executed the Spear. He literally threw himself at the opponent. I sometimes wondered what would happen if Rhyno was to miss the Gore and say there was a ladder behind the guy whom he was about to Gore. He would injure himself pretty bad IMO.
