Survivor Series 2014 - return of traditional matches?

rge2010

Mid-Card Championship Winner
I love Survivor Series traditional matches. Used to love it as a kid when random superstars joined forces to team up in 5 on 5 matches! I think this year really could see the return of a few more added to the card due to current storylines. In an ideal world I would like to see.....

TEAM AMERICA - John Cena (c), Jack Swagger, Big Show, Big E Langston, RVD
vs
TEAM FOREIGNERS - Rusev (c), Sheamus, Cesaro, Alberto Del Rio, Bad News Barrett

The American team picks itself. Rusev leads the foreign charge. I would turn Sheamus heel to add some power to the foreigners.

THE AUTHORITY - Triple H (c), Randy Orton, Seth Rollins, Kane, Stephanie McMahon
vs
TEAM REBELS - Roman Reigns (c), Batista, Dean Ambrose, Daniel Bryan, Brie Bella

Authority is a solid team which picks itself. Everyone they have recently feuded with included in the opposition.

TEAM JERICHO - Chris Jericho (c), Jey Uso, Jimmy Uso, Christian, Kofi Kingston
vs
TEAM WYATT - Bray Wyatt, Erik Rowan, Luke Harper, New Member, The Miz,

I think The Miz interacting with The Wyatts could be good TV. Miz and Bray both seem to be into it with Jericho, so if he is still around then why not. I think The Wyatts may get a new member.

TEAM ROSE - Adam Rose, Santino Marella, Goldust, Stardust, Great Khali,.
vs
TEAM SANDOW - Damien Sandow, Fandango, Heath Slater, Bo Dallas, Zack Ryder

IWC nerds will hate this. The kids will love it. I think it could have some amusing spots in it.

I always liked the traditional Survivor Series matches and hope that these make up the majority this year.
I particularly liked the 1990 Survivor Series when they had the grand finale survival match where all the winners competed, with the amount of talent available, I would like to see this.

I like the idea of the return to the Survivors matches and proper teams with captains.

Originally the Survivor Series was the "one night entee" to the WWF. You could watch that show having never seen WWF before and by the end if it know who was who, good or bad, popular or hated and who you liked and disliked. The captains were the big names, the guys getting pinfalls on the up and those getting eliminated those not so important.

Then they ruined it by making it more about a standard PPV.

I would tweak your idea a a little further with an old borrowing from WCW - Battlebowl.

Rather than having nice neat teams, I would have a random element to the event, where a team captain draws his partners rather than picks them. This could be done over several weeks and bring back some of that old "draft" excitement. Even if only one partner was random or "wildcard" it would add some interest.

For example the event is 5 man matches like the original.

Team Heyman with Brock as Captain has Cesaro and brings in The Ascension for a big debut but is randomly drawn with RVD. Will RVD screw Heyman or take to once more being a Paul Heyman guy, if only for the night.

Likewise opposing team captain John Cena picks Big E, Big Show and is randomly drawn with Rybaxel... will Rybaxel get with the programme of the team and go for revenge or become Heyman guys and screw their team mates?

Bray picks Rowan and Harper, The Miz (I can see him joining the family before long) and is randomly drawn with Bo Dallas

Jericho picks Stardust and Goldust along with Dolph Ziggler and makes his draw but refuses to tell the Wyatts who it is...other than it's someone both of them knows very well... on the night.. "I'm afraid I've got some BAAAD NEWS"

Carry it on down the line... The Authority get drawn with Ambrose on their team while Batista is drawn against them...

It's be a great way to "freshen up" an old formula.

If Vince wanted to "borrow" ideas from WCW, we would have seen War Games at some point by now. Don't get me wrong, it sounds like a good idea, but when was the last time WWE did something that made sense or was a good idea? Remember when WCW did it, though? It was supposedly a giant clusterf*** where all the drawings really were random. I hope that IF WWE wants to do that, they don't make the same mistakes WCW did. Anyway, what if they held a Survivor Series match with just superstars from NXT? Winning team, or sole survivors get called up to the main roster. Or NXT superstars vs WWE superstars, with the same stipulation that if team NXT wins then the remaining superstar(s) get called up? It could be a great opportunity for guys like Sami Zayn, or Adrian Neville, hell, even the Ascension if they still haven't debuted by then.

I was just talking with a buddy of mine about how I hoped the move from PPV to the WWE Network would allow the company to take more chances with the Events formerly known as PPVs. A return to the traditional Survivor Series format is the first idea that came up (along with a KoTR revival). It's a whole different ballgame selling a six month subscription vs. selling a monthly $60 PPV. Whereas people may not be willing to spend $60 on a PPV full of ten man tag team matches, they may be willing to drop $60 on the novelty of it knowing that they'll get the next several PPVs and everything that goes along with the WWE Network. Hell, it won't happen but I'd even consider bringing back the Thanksgiving Day tradition.

So yeah... I'm %100 on board with this idea and your matches are even good choices. I just hope BNB & Daniel Bryan are healthy by November!

Personally I prefer Survivor Series from 2001 onward, with one or two traditional matches a year. It makes them more special when they're a rare thing. The early Survivor Series events are a bore to get through, with so many elimination matches full of C-list talent. Do one or two a year, and maybe one more for Divas, but that's it.

It wouldn't BE Battlebowl, but that's just the only time it's really been used.

WWE misses that "draft" excitement and this would be a way to bring that back and add something to the traditional Survivor matches, even making it harder to "survive" as you would have a wildcard on your team.

Never expect it to happen in a million years, but stranger things have happened.

Personally, I'd be all for WWE using a full card of traditional 10 man elimination tag team matches for Survivor Series. It'd be a means of much of the main roster being featured on the show, each match could be given a lot of time and there probably wouldn't need to be but four or five matches to fill the entire card. Survivor Series definitely needs something because it's not really viewed as a big ppv anymore, especially since the buys for last year's show were beyond disappointing. However, I think that's entirely on Vince McMahon because if he ultimately decides not to treat Survivor Series like it's a big deal, then how can fans be expected to view it as a big deal?

If I were setting up a program, I'd go something along these lines:

Team Cena: John Cena (Captain), Daniel Bryan, Roman Reigns, Dean Ambrose & Brie Bella

Team Authority: Triple H (Captain), Randy Orton, Seth Rollins, Kane & Stephanie McMahon

I simply can't see John Cena not being in the main event Survivor Series match and since he's obviously a target of The Authority. All these other babyfaces are also current targets of The Authority, so it just fits.

Team America: Sheamus (Captain), Jack Swagger, Big E, Big Show & Dolph Ziggler

Team Foreign Invaders: Rusev (Captain), Cesaro, Alberto Del Rio, Bad News Barrett & Tyson Kidd

If I was going with a USA vs. Foreigners theme and Sheamus was still United States Champion, I couldn't see him being on a team of foreign heels. It's only fitting that the US champ be the captain of Team USA. There'd be a lot of heavy hitting powerhouses in the match and I'd also add Tyson Kidd into the mix. He's in the process of a slow heel turn in NXT and I could see him joining up with the foreign heels representing Canada. His high flying offense compliments Dolph Ziggler as they're the two smallest guys in the match.

Team AJ: AJ Lee (Captain), Cameron, Summer Rae, Natalya & Nikki Bella

Team Paige: Paige (Captain), Naomi, Layla, Alicia Fox & Eva Marie

Considering that there are some genuinely talented Divas on the roster, I could see a Divas bout going down. With the exception of Eva Marie, based on the last time I saw her work a match, every woman here is decent to fantastic. I'd put Eva Marie in it as a means of having her on the show and being the first one eliminated if she's still outright horrible. Tamina Snuka is out injured and even though Emma was rehired yesterday just a few hours after being fired, who knows what her status will be in the coming weeks. So the only active Diva left would be Rosa Mendes and she makes Eva Marie look like Kurt Angle.

Team Jericho: Chris Jericho (Captain), Rob Van Dam, Jimmy Uso, Jey Uso & Mark Henry

Team Wyatt: Bray Wyatt (Captain), Luke Harper, Erick Rowan, Bo Dallas & The Miz

I could see Bo Dallas joining the Wyatt Family. I can't get over how creepy I think the guy looks whenever he smiles and I could genuinely see him as sort of this innocent, seemingly positive person who "thinks" that he's a good person though his actions are those of a deranged lunatic. You know, kind of like those kids in some horror flicks you sometimes see in movies who seem sweet & harmless but are vicious beasts. I added The Miz because I couldn't think of anyone else that could fit and his interaction with Chris Jericho this past Monday gives him a reason to be there.

I hope this years survivor series is the all tradional survivor series, I miss the days when they all used to be all about survival my card would be like this:

1) TEAM ROSE - Adam Rose, Santino Marella, Bo Dallas & Darren Young Vs TEAM SANDOW- Damien Sandow, Fandango, Heath Slater, Titus O'Neil & Zack Ryder.
Team Sandow goes over here and Ryder turns heel before hand it'll be a decent opener for the ppv.

2) TEAM AJ - Aj Lee, Summer Rae, Tamina, Emma & Naomi Vs TEAM PAIGE - Paige, Natalya, Cameron, Nikki Bella & Layla
Team Aj goes over here.

3) TEAM Chris Jericho - Jericho, The USO & Justin Gabriel Vs TEAM WYATT - Bray Wyatt, Eric Rowan, Luke Harper & The Miz.
Miz turns heel before hand and joins the wyatt family and bray and like are the sole survivors Whilst jericho puts bray over.

4) TEAM SWAGGER - Jack Swagger, Big E, Killings & Woods Vs TEAM RUSEV - Rusev, Alberto Del Rio, Tyson Kidd & David Otunga.
Team Rusuv goes over here by beating swagger to become the sole survivor.

5) TEAM JOHN CENA - Cena, Sheamus, Adrian Neville, Sami Zayne & Rob Van Dam Vs TEAM BROCK LESNAR - Lesnar, Ceasaro, The Accessions & Colin Cassidy
Team Lesnar goes over here with cesaro and lesnar being the survivors here.

6) TEAM ROMAN REIGNS - Reigns, Ambrose, Bryan & Ziggler Vs TEAM AUTHORITY - Triple HHH, Kane, Rollins & Ortan.
Team reigns goes over with Bryan and Reigns being the survivors to give them a further push.

I guess a lot of people have missed out the fact that Orton is one of the best at traditional Survivor Series tag matches. If they turn him face towards the end of the year, they can have him feud with Wyatt. Jericho is only gonna be there till NOC according to reports. I would love to see Jericho stick around for Survivor Series but I don't think it'll happen. Team Orton vs Team Wyatts would be amazing. Probably after Orton loses to Batista or something, Orton can turn on the Authority for not giving him the championship and just using him. Authority can then have him feud with the Wyatts, by then Wyatt-Jericho program will be over with. They can have a match at Hell in a Cell and then continue the program for Survivor Series...

Team Orton (Orton, Stardust and Goldust, Usos) vs Team Wyatts (Bray, Harper and Rowan, The Miz and R-Truth)
I would like to see "The Awesome Truth" back, they were pretty awesome keeping aside the fact that they used to interrupt many matches. R-Truth is not fun at all unless he's heel. You have him on the roster anyway, so why not use him?
Or they can have a heel turn here. Rhodes can turn on Goldust and Team Orton a la NOC 2008 when Rhodes turned on Hardcore Holly to team with Ted DiBiase. They can start the build up leading to a Rhodes vs Goldust match at Wrestlemania 31
