Survivor Series 1990 Main Event: Potential Superstar Stipulation

At the 1990 Survivor Series the final match was made up of a face & heel team. The wrestlers involved were the surviving members from the previous bouts. The face team on that match was Hogan, Warrior & Tito Santana againist The Warlord, Power & Glory, Ted Dibiase & Rick Martel. The match sucked, and the outcome was predictable. As many were in that era. But what could a victory for Tito Santana have done for his career and if the gimmick returned what could it do for a wrestler today?

Imagine if WWE wanted to make somebody like Punk actually appear to be in the same league as Batista & Cena. This would be the perfect way to do it. For one he'd be in two matches. If you gave him a big enough beating in the first match, then have him as a sole survivor in the second it could do wonders for a mid card talent.

I've never understood why they quit doing the "sole survivor" concept. I loved that when I was little, watching Hogan, Warrior and Tito battle it out against the evil villains. Then Tito gets eliminated early (because he sucked), and then Hogan and Warrior show their dominance and pick up the win.

I'm not sure if the concept would do much for a wrestler though. I mean, we already have the Royal Rumble, King of the Ring, and Money in the Bank that can be used to put over new talent. I'm not sure if you could stretch that even more thinly to have a Survivor get over.

I think it worked well with Jeff Hardy last year. It was the beginning of his ascent to the Main event id say. Basically break this down to two concepts

The push. while the soel survivor gimmick is good for it, it can be accomplished regardless, by causing a mid carder to be a sole survivor of his team, against superior numbers, or being teamed with a main eventer, and survivng 2 on 5 (like Trips and Hardy last year)

The sole survivor match. I loved this when I was little as well, and think it would be a great build to the end of the night. Make Survivor Series truly look like the all star game of the WWE, and have the big boys going at it in the end. I think you can accomplish both 'the push" and the "big one" in the end in concert with each other, wouldnt be too awfully tough to do. I think the Survivor Series has been greatly underutilized by the WWE in the modern era. This is were the build towards the rumble winner/ WM main eventer could, and should, start.
