Street Fighter X Tekken Officially Announced

Yes, this game is, in fact, real (the X is pronounced "cross", by the way). A mash-up fighting game featuring characters from both the Street Fighter and Tekken universes. The game was officially announced at Comic-Con earlier today and two of the game's creators played a live demo. Apparently it's a joint effort between Capcom and Namco, and won't be out for "a while". Here's an article on the game in case you'd like more details:

So, what do you guys think? Good idea or not? Are you excited for the game's potential? Since I've seen a few fighting game-related threads on here lately, I thought this would be an interesting topic of discussion. I personally like both series of games, but I'm not quite sure how well their styles will mesh. I will, however, reserve judgement until I've seen more of the game.

FDude, that is fucking awesome, I can't wait to get this. Personally, I preffer Tekken, but I have always liked Street fighter, having a mash up of characters would just be awesome!

The trailer is a big teaser but similar visual style to SFIV, which looks pretty good. IGN are also claiming that Capcom will make Street Fighter X Tekken and Namco will make Tekken X Street fighter. All I can assume is that the capcom one will be street fighter style and the Namco one Tekken style.

I for one am quite excited how this all pans out, but as a whole cross overs don't fair too well but if you have options for both fans then that will work surely.

According to the article the gameplay looked to be 2D, which is certainly the most important question in my opinion. We have two of the most well known fighting series, one reknown for being the most popular and one of the best 2D, whilst the other is the same in the 3D area.

If you had the pleasure of playing the one 3D Street Fighter game, I imagine you havent forgotten that disaster. However, I do think this game would work in either format, personally I would prefer 2D mind you.

This could be very fun, other then that important question I dont see any reason to object to this.

EDIT - Having read Lee's post, two versions of the game would be an interesting decision, but something that I think would benefit us fans most of all.

wow. The fighting/combo engines just don't mesh at all. Great in theory, and on paper, but the execution and playability is going to be messy and probably disappointing to all parties involved. Good for a rent, probably won't buy.

This could be tasty but, personally, I'm more old school. If it'd been Street Fighter vs Mortal Kombat, that would sure as hell sort out some old school issues I have (such as would Ryu kick Lui Kang's ass)

should be a good game, as has been said, they're a bit too dis-similar to mesh well
