Alot of talk about sting lately, so I figured I would find out what the IWC thinks of him.I'm really sorry if this has been done before.
My questions are....

Is Sting Over rated?
Under rated?
Niethier?

And state what contributed to your descision.

I would say Sting's career has been underrated, especially because he has never appeared in WWE. For those who are only marks for WWE, forget that during the heyday of WCW, Sting CARRIED WCW, not Hogan or Bishcoff or NWO, STING!!! His first shot at NWA title against Ric Flair at the original Clash of Champions was a bonafide classic 45 minute time limit draw.

Most people in the IWC know that Sting is one of the all-time greats, rarely do I hear informed, seasoned veterans say anything but positive things about Sting.
The man is quite possibly one of the best in the business to never be in the WWE, we all know that, but overshadowing all that is what he actually does in the ring.
Don't mind the fact that he's with TNA, watch him at work and you'll see why he's a well respected wrestler. Even at 52 he can still put on a hell of a match.
I mean sure obviously he can't do it 200 days a year like he used but when he DOES step in the ring you KNOW you're gonna usually get something great.

Most people here know that, so I can't say he's under OR overrated

I'd say neither.

Sting was the Franchise of WCW. His popularity never reached the level of Hulk Hogan, and that is a damn good thing to me. Hulk Hogan's ego was one of the many factors that became the destroyers of WCW. Hogan is praised for the things he's done for the wrestling business, but shunned for his ego.

Ego is one thing that never took over Steve Borden. He never claimed to be as big as Hogan claims to be. His persona, his in-ring skills, all qualities of being neither overrated, nor underrated. He had plenty of pushes, and story lines focusing on him, but he never put himself above the business. Something that Hogan, as a person, and a character has done time after time. Hogan was/is the definition of overrated.

I voted neither because Sting is the guy that has done everythings there was ever to be done in wrestling( Except work for Vince), and never claimed to be a big star or a wrestling god. I would say that Sting like The Undertaker are both true legends of the wrestling buisness

I believe he was in the middle in WCW , and over rated now being in TNA as draw power. He was great in WCW , its just sad alot of people only know him as the crow sting and not how great he was before he had that gimmick. Is it safe to say that him vs hogan was the tipping point for him in his career, when he reached his biggest height?

Without a doubt, he's overrated. And that doesn't mean he isn't great.

The fact that fans were disappointed to see the UT return as opposed to Sting debut .. the fact that people are upset to see Triple H wrestle UT at WrestleMania as opposed to Sting vs UT are huge contributing factors to the overrated label I place on Sting.

Sting has been great, and he has achieved legendary status in the industry. But because he has never worked for WWE, a lot of us - myself included - are guilty of placing him on a pedistol. We almost view him as a savior - the great unknown in the WWE. What could happen if Sting just jumped ship? That near mythical question has caused a lot of us to rate Sting as a top-5 talent in the industry when in reality, there are probably a dozen guys over the past decade that should rank high above him.

I believe Sting is underrated. The only reason is because he has never been in WWE. Now those of us who know Sting and have watched him for 15+ years, know he is one of the greatest performers of all time. But, there is a whole new generation of wrestling fans out there, and many of which have never seen Sting.

In my opinion, Sting is one of the greatest wrestlers of all time. I would put him in the same list as Hogan, Flair, and....well Sting. I think, had he signed with WWE this past week, he would have gotten a pop as big as or bigger than the Rock. In my opinion.

Without question Sting's overrated, and this is coming from a NWA/WCW fan who hated the WWF/WWE. This idea of him as a legend and an all-time great is just crazy !

Don't get me wrong I liked Sting, I loved his feud with the Great Muta and of course with Flair, and the guy had lots of charisma but he wasn't a great worker nor a great promo guy either. He was given the WCW title from Flair and the fed was to be built on his back and he was a MAJOR flop as champ ! The strap went back to Flair 6 months later.

I liked the Surfer Sting, hated the Crow gimmick, and overall I thought he was pretty good. But I don't get this legendary and all-time great stuff when it comes to him.

I don't think the pertinent question is whether he's overrated or underrated. The scope of his work in the ring in WCW puts him at the pinnacle of the sport; a position that only a few wrestlers ever reach. Many of the guys who become champion in the federation they work still cannot claim to have gained legendary status. Guys like Hulk Hogan, Bruno Sammartino, Undertaker and Ric Flair didn't waste their time wrestling in high school gyms after they made it to the top. The problem I have with Sting is the same as with Kurt Angle; they are all-time greats in pro wrestling who have decided to spend the latter part of their careers in a lesser wrestling company.

Yes, you can say: "They have a right to work where they choose".....and you would be correct. Still, Sting has gained such legendary status that it seems a shame to deprive the greatest number of wrestling fans of his presence.

As to guys like Sting and Angle working for TNA, I've been using a analogy I think applies: It's as if Derek Jeter had the ability to go to the New York Yankees, yet decided to stay in Triple A his entire career because he liked the working conditions better. He has the privilege of doing that if he wants......but what a waste.

So, as to this survey, I'm voting "neither underrated nor overrated," because that isn't the point. My problem with Sting lies in another direction.
