Sting: The Forgotten

QBall111

Occasional Pre-Show
So it is just under a month since Wrestlemania and the talk of Sting on WWE television has been very limited to none. I understand Triple H hasn't been really on WWE television either to gloat his victory but it will come that HHH will be back on Raw and he will most likely speak his victory. So does Sting come out of the shadows or did he become forgotten

Today Sting was used in a WWE article about facing John Cena in the US title challenge. He also has an awesome picture with UT for Wrestlemania. Makes me wonder what's next. Why so quiet? I was hoping the Bray Wyatt promos were about Sting but looks like that's not gonna happen.

Thoughts?

Wrestlemania's been over for a month and they don't currently have a program they're running him in. Typically when the WWE doesn't have a performer performing content, they don't bother having that performer come in to perform content.

I don't put much stock in WWE.com pieces, since they generally are just speculation by the media team. That said, Sting did mention five names he'd like to face in his pre-Comic Con interview: John Cena, Randy Orton, The Rock, Triple H, and The Undertaker. He got Triple H, and I'd imagine that WWE are going to acquiesce to fan demand for Sting/Undertaker. Sting/Rock is a real stretch, but Sting going against Cena and Orton is very possible. The Stinger can clearly still wrestle at an acceptable standard, and those guys can help him along to a solid 3 star bout. Cena is a lifelong mark for Sting, so I reckon he'd want to do the match.

As for folks not talking much about Sting, I think his post-Raw speech was a way of saying, "WWE doesn't have anything for me right now." He's representing the company at Comic Con and has been filming interview footage at Stamford, so he'll be back in the ring at some point, but I don't think fans are going to be getting too excited until they actually see Sting on TV again.

Sting was the face of WCW and Vince never had the chance to crap on him until Mania so with that done there's no need for him anymore other than to pimp out merchandise.

I really honestly hope he never comes back unless its for an interview or DVD or network special.

I don't care how many times people have told me I'm an idiot or down voted me or anything else but what WWE booked for him at WM was absolutely disgusting. It was beyond disrespectful and was the biggest sign of all that Vince (and by proxy HHH) STILL can't get over WCW.

I hope Sting got a huge payday, I hope that it validated him to know that he could've gone to WWE anytime he wanted, I hope he makes a ton of money on the video game and action figures and shirts, I hope that he is happy (as much as he could be) with how he was treated. I think he can hold his head high, that he got in great shape and at 56 years old he went out there and delivered a performance that wasn't embarrassing.

That said, WWE had one chance to really cement Sting as a star in the eyes of WWE fans (that weren't around for WCW) and they totally blew it. There is nothing left for him to accomplish. If he goes against Taker he loses again. If he goes against any young talents and beats them it's pointless because he isn't going to work a full time program, so why steal some young guys thunder just to leave. Basically there is no scenario for him that really makes sense at this point.

I thought Sting was great. I stopped watching TNA not long after Hogan came in, so I missed a lot of Stings last couple years. The drop kick he hit, and the top rope splash to the outside were incredible considering they were coming from a 55 year old man.

I want to see more Sting if he can continue to perform at the level he did at Mania. He looked like he was in great shape. The booking of the match was crap. I'll defend the DX and nWo involvement, it's nostalgia and some of the biggest draws in the history of the business. I will decry the extent to which they were involved, and the finish was utter bullshit. I think we were supposed to be ok with Stinger losing, because DX interfered and Triple H finished it with the sledge. Sting shouldn't have lost, especially considering a massive part of the PG era demographic doesn't know shit about the guy.

Sting should have won, or at the very least commentary shouldn't have buried Sting and WCW as hard as they did. JBL went out of his way to make Sting seem like the last relic of a dead promotion, to make him seem small. They should have feared Sting, and put him over as one of the greatest champions of all time. Instead they made him seem like the biggest fish from a small pond now in the ocean.

I could write a book on how badly Sting was booked, but there were good moments. Perhaps a rematch is in the works. Triple H V Sting at Summerslam could be good. I would get DX involved again, if only because that's the closest we'll ever get to Sting V Michales.

Sting won't be mentioned on WWE progamming again until they have a program for him, and I'm not sure they do.

He's a special attraction. They're probably saving him for Summerslam or WM 32. Personally I'd love to see him at HIAC since it'll be in LA which is a big deal.

WWE blew it. Instead of having him beat Cripple H and give him additional credibility and staem heading into his next feud, they bury him at Mania. Sting has lost any intrigue at this point. Even if he wrestles the Undertaker, there will be no chance that he will win.
Sting made a poor business decision by joining the WWE. His legacy may not be damaged but it will be a bit tarnished due to Vince's hatred for WCW, a company that he owns. Vince is an idiot.

Why is it "Cripple H" exactly? Trips is still one of the best in-ring performers WWE have. Is it because he had quad injuries in the past? In that case, is Daniel Bryan now going to be known as "Neck Boy" and John Cena "Pec Man" due previous injuries???

I don't think WWE "buried" Sting at WM, it took a sledgehammer shot for him to lose, and while I think he SHOULD have won the match, I don't class it as a burial.

Sting's legacy will not in any way be tarnished. Any real wrestling fan knows of Sting's accomplishments in the business, and with the WWE Network they can actually see everything he did in WCW. Plus with the DVD release etc he isn't going to be tarnished at all. "A poor business decision"???? Signing with a company that will be paying him more than he was making in TNA, with more merchandise, exposure and royalty payments is a BAD decision??? Get real!

Anyway, back on topic....

Sting isn't "forgotten"....he just isn't feuding with anyone right now. He's on a very limited-date contract with WWE, so the company wants to get maximum benefit from those days, and won't waste them on meaningless appearances on Raw. When they are building towards Sting's next major match and storyline, we'll see the Icon again.

Sting has limited dates like Lesnar. prob wont see him for awhile

Probably so. We did this type of thing with the Rock after the consecutive Wrestlemanias in which he participated; we started coming up with all sorts of matches and angles he could pursue.....but the truth was, he was going only to do the big event and build it beforehand with a few non-violent appearances, no matter what we fans might have had planned for him.

Same with Sting.....and even more so because he's older. In fact, if it weren't for the historic call from WWE, the guy would likely be basking in happy retirement by now.

If Sting does something at WM32, it will be a good thing. Beyond that, I wouldn't count on any in-ring appearances from the AARP candidate.

Somebody else asked this but I'd also like to know why you chose to call him "Cripple H". He's not crippled. He's in way better shape than Sting. He didn't retire or go part time due to injury, so why call him crippled?

And JR said that Sting didn't care about winning/losing and that his dream was fulfilled the moment he walked to the ring at Wrestlemania. Everything else was icing on the cake. So am I going to take Jim Ross' word who is a long time friend of Sting or am I could to listen to random internet people like you who claim Sting made a mistake, or got buried, or was a puppet in Vince's evil scheme? Seems to me Sting got exactly what he wanted out of Wrestlemania. So if Sting's happy, I'm happy for him. Guys like you are programmed to be outraged. Your "Cripple H" remark proves that.
